Woodturning a Segmented Christmas Ornament 2014

- With this ornament, I wanted to bring wood from two different trees on our property together. The Ornament would be a sphere with birch wood on the upper half and Deodar Cedar on the bottom half. The two woods would come together in a zigzag pattern in the middle.

I think this would make a great kinder-surprise-like tree decoration. The two halves could twist-lock together and open for a candy or toy, sort of similar to an Advent Calendar.

A trick that I just learned from Roger T over at Wood Talk Online for making quick accurate tenons is sharpen the bottom tang of a open ended wrench you get the tenon within about 1/8" of finish size push the sharpened wrench into the tenon perfect tenon with out having to sneak up on it. I love you videos Frank thanks for sharing.

According to Izzy (I haven't tried it yet), spreading a little table salt on the glue will keep pieces from sliding around during a glue up. Great ornament and fun to watch, thanks.

From the very first scene, to the final credit, it is pure class. I am working through all your videos and am learning so much about so many things - design, videography, aesthetics, stop motion, etc. I have even learned a tiny bit about woodworking, even though I have no intention of working with wood myself; there plenty of people who are far more skilled than I will ever be, and watching your videos has been really helpful when making purchasing decisions.
