Missed an important step. Always while moving out get pictures. Get out your camera and take pictures of the rental. Better yet take a full narrated video of a complete inspection showing everything. With cellphones this is extremely easy and cost effective. Another piece of good advice is to use email a lot. Even if you have a telephone conversation with your landlord, back it up with an email to your landlord describing what was discussed in the phone call. If the landlord takes any exception they can always respond to the email.
What if you had pictures and email conversations but your child threw your phone in a bucket of water and you lost everything on your phone this means you had to buy a new phone and get a new number also because you couldn't keep the same exact phone number what can you do about this when you want to have proof of everything that's going on to prove your case

Private landlords need tenants. Tenants don't need private landlords. Most private landlords are operating in the red which is why they try to break laws and circumvent the legal system so much.
If a landlord was in the red? The tenant wouldn't have a place to live. Because they would be given notice to vacate the premises, after the home is foreclosed on
@@Chris66able well maybe landlords should honor tenants leases that were agreed upon. Seems to me a landlord would want to get rid of a good tenant who pays and is quite and don't bother anyone....
@@daphnietudor2953 That goes both ways ! Except its the Landlord who loses money. Got to remember the landlord owns the property, if they find themselves in financial trouble , its their property to sell, as long as they give the agreed upon notice.

Did you give your landlord a Declaration of Moratorium Form signed when he gave that notice, I think its against the law to do this, landlord could get in big trouble
@@gisuzi5405 Yes, move and don't look back. A lot of these landlords nowadays are parasitic and extremely narcissistic pathological liars with psychopath traits. They will never be accountable, have no conscience nor empathy for anyone . Be cautious and protect yourself once they start showing duplicity in their behavior, impulsive, words that never match their actions , but especially sweet one minute, mean and cruel the next
I live in MN and my landlord is bad in a way.. we been complaining about pass midnight noise and people parked in our giving parking spot. Even though we tell the landlord she did nothing but lie through her teeth. We call the cops but nothing is fixed we call the office and there nothing change. The apartment start smell of smoke and theres kids live in it.. we have a broken kitchen oven and tell them to give us a new and it took them 3 month and they just grab it next door.
In Arizona, landlords have all the rights and almost none of the responsibility. It’s insane how quickly an Arizona landlord can put a family on the streets (5 days after rent is due).
Realty company for my area is from Arizona and they have papers charges just to put a notice on your door stating it's for late payment of rent (when your rent has been paid), but reminder doesn't state what it's for and you can make arrangements. Two days later they put another notice with another paper charge that's a three day notice to terminate rental agreement in thirty days and leave out all your legal rights. You are questioning and trying to figure out what's going on and then told it's in your lease, then they say they are hanging up, because you are just f-ing crazy.
I have been a landlord for 42 years and only 4 times did I return a deposit, All of the others owed more than the deposit in back rent. Now If I show up at the property the squatters call the cops and the cops make me leave unless I show them the copy of the deed. But By Dec 1st 24 people will be hitting the streets, actually squatting somewhere else. In Calif I then have to wait 14 days for them to get their stuff before I can call in a dumpster. But since the squatters in 2 units scared off the other tenant/drug dealers in the other 2 units. I am thankful to them, despite no rent for 18 months.
My landlord thinks she can enter my space when ever she feels, I keep telling her she can't come in my space without notice unless theres water damage or some type of safety hazard and she basically tells me if you don't like it you should leave, she's a nice lady but she thinks I have no rights, any advice on what I should do with this difficult situation
I don't know if it's mentioned on here in the comments but I would also record any conversation you have in the office with your landlord. It would be very easy to do this on your phone just another way to have backup and proof of what went down.
That's exactly what was done with the former landlord and now also having to be done with this current one too. The moment they show you any kind of duplicity in their character, verbal and psychological abuse which is unacceptable anti social behavior, immediately go no contact and make it clear to them in writing that behavior will not be tolerated and any further communication with them is to be done in writing and through email, then prepare to leave the toxic environment.
In Ohio, the LL has 30 days to send sec dep if exiting tenant has provided new address, and must have itemized deductions shown if there are any deductions.
I have been keeping records since I've moved in. My landlord didn't even know about warranty of habitability. In NYS , landlords have a responsibility to provide a safe environment. It's crazy ho by contacting the State Attorney Generals office has helped me.
My daughter and I just move in this July to a home the owner has lied about making repairs of issues and we have only been here a week, an the Hot water heater does work right. The owner is very cheap and doesn’t want to replace Hot water heater. I’m disabled and live with my daughter what should I do we gave him our savings as a deposit.

I rent a back house/ guest house in Los Angeles and my landlord hasn't fixed the plumbing but they have paid for a cheap exterminator to spray around the doors and windows for termites. Multiple people rent from this residence but no one has submitted a formal complaint about the plumbing on paper. Can I still withhold rent? The landlord sort of took care of on issue and completely disregarded the other.
Hi..No you can't with hold rent. You can write on paper to them (full names)you are requesting that the plumbing please be fixed within 14 days. Date it sign it and send it certified mail to them. Also there is a LA County help line you can call. Honestly though....if you can move I would...these don't ever end well. They get mad and your living in fear. I would save!!!! And look to get out 😬 Sorry
@@lisalee2885 I appreciate that she replied, but it is very u fair that a tenant should have to suffer because a landlord never has to fix something as basic as plumbing.

This is so informative, my question is what the international law states for the tenant and landlord. ? What if the landlord asks the tenant to sign a lease different from all the other tenants in the same housing basically overcharge. What if the landlord can't write in here But yes hoping for some answers. What if the court language is not English and the tenant is ordered to sign a document saying that this is only proof of his or her attendance to the court.
I have a question if I'm renting a room from someone do I have to clean that house Because they have a job. For rent I pay the electric bill in the Wi-Fi bill
My home is not habitable! The heat has stopped working, there is mold growth in the kitchen cabinets, there's no smoke detector, no ventilation, one door won't close all the way, water drips in the bedroom window when it rains. The worst part is the roaches have taken over the whole front half of our home since it has gotten cold. No matter how much we clean, they are everywhere. We can't even sit in the living room anymore and watch tv without roaches crawling on us. I'm also pretty sure they have formed a colony in the back of our tv.
He by law doesn’t have to tell you the reason. Why he is not renewing the lease . The lease is a contract for a period of time. It goes both ways if you don’t renew the lease to the landlord you don’t have to guce a reason why you as a tenant you are not renewing the lease. It goes both ways.
The problem is landlords are the ones having their rights violated by tenants who don't take proper care of a property and then don't pay for damages when they leave. Also not paying rent and various other rule violations. State governments have been siding with tenants and passing laws that make it untenable to rent out a building or unit profitably as well as creating safety concerns without even trying to understand the building owners situation.
My landlord evicted me , I left before the eviction date but didn’t turn in the keys. She proceeded with eviction. Shouldn’t I get charge for lost key. Not eviction on my record since the apartment was cleared out.
Someone I know lives in a building where the windows don't open, there has also been restrictions put in place to prevent the tenants from having company, isn't this against the law!? If a tenant has to pay rent how can a building owner restrict them from having company because of the pandemic, also the fact that the windows don't open is a fire hacid!
We was WRONGFULLY EVICTED WITH FALSE DOCUMENT DUE TO RETALIATION ON RENT PAID!! Manager had us on a 90 days eviction without noticing us than has the 90 days manager had us on was the three days and still without noticing us. An employee told us that we was on eviction as we was on that three days and manager give us the false eviction 1 day before the deadline and gave us the notice on a Thrusday right before 5pm making it hard for us to go to legal aid only one day to be able to get help so thankful for employees that given us heads up. He also evicts tenants on Holidays making it hard for them to get any kind of help. Since our rent was paid and we have all our proof of paid rent from the first month I moved in and faithfully paid rent on time without being late. We won the first court heart. Judge statement of a mailed letter stating that we can stay in our unit and to start restoration but manager still refuse our rent. Manager told maintenance to lock us out we call police and the officers was mad and told manager they can't do that. Manager denied us dumpster use so we couldn't throw out any garbage. Than how manger was so angry after 30 days he relocated us to another unit and had plans of throwing us out by not having a rental agreement of that unit but according to Fair Housing when any manager/landlord gives a key to their rented property that key is your rental agreement. So he couldn't throw us out and once again as an employee give us heads up so we had to call the police and the police made manager to give us an rental agreement than that manager would have to evict us again and once again the eviction was false document but we still had to go to court. Second time of court hearing of the same issue same judge too but this time we lost because judge said she couldn't hear us out for the reason out response was blank and so I had told legal aid how that/ happened and legal aid attorney said "your response was not blank because I felt it out myself." I couldn't believe how that judge lied like that, it is so hard for me to even say a judge lie because I honestly believe that they are mandatory to be fair and truthful. So the day sheriff came to lock us out right after we was put out and sheriff left manager had a note posted up on lobby entrance door stating there are 4 tenants in that building that has COVID 19 and from my understanding of that is that when there are tenants diagnose with that virus that no one can be put out and of course at that time manger didn't let sheriffs know that. Manager and wife been getting a lot of tenants out their units, tenants that's been there for over 20 years and some. Manager was even caught in his own lies by judge from the first court hearing, so he purge in court to the judge and still nothing. Now we have eviction on our records and it's been very hard to rent our own place and we came to find out that manager be speaking lies on us as other managers call to get a report on us and that manger lied Slandering our name. Retaliation is against California State Law and slandering. So much more on how manager treated us till sheriff came. Manager validated our renters rights by denying us dumpster use. Corporate it's of no help at all and they end up calling manager to tell them of tenants reports. That apartment building is Federal Law for low income families, but yet manager evicted a lot of low income tenants with handicap/disability tenants and moved in the manager wife's immediate and extended family and also fired employees to hire wife's family and they all live there too. They shut down the day room that is set up as recreation center and the 6th floor units don't have an oven only the stove top burners so the 6th floor tenants would use the oven that's in the day room. There is also the weight room that's supposed to be for tenant and manger uses the weight room for them and their families. Elevators are at least over a year expired and they constantly break down so mobile tenants can't get to their dialysis appointment and ext... So they end up dying there and wouldn't be found dead till 3weeks to 4 weeks. Elderly man decompose into his bed and his lady neighbor died from that elderly bad order. Another elderly lady died and her body fluids leak through the walls. That building has rodents, cockroaches, bed bugs, nats and ext.. the manager is also a Pastor. Another elderly man tenant that we know his family that came to visit him they told his granddaughter that he no longer lives there. Also that same man is Hawaiian and had lots of ancestor collectable
Hopefully more people knowing their rights will help eliminate some of the situations where vulnerable people are abused. Its a tough situation to be in for sure. Thanks for watching!

*I have kind of a complex question that I CANNOT find the answer to no matter how much I search google. So My issue is this: I live in New York, and rented from my previous landlord, lets call him E, and I now have a new landlord, lets call him C. Before C bought my building, E let me know that he "transferred my lease" to C. I paid first and last month's rent to E when I first moved in, but he didn't mention if he sent my last month's rent to C with the 'lease transfer'. I plan on moving out of new landlord C's apartment when the 1 year lease is up. Should I expect to not have to pay last month's rent my last month there? What happens if my previous landlord did NOT send my new landlord my last month's rent, and I am not able to get in contact with my old landlord to ask him if he did? Please help lol*
If you paid last months rent when you moved in, and have proof of it, then you don't have to pay C last months rent. If C never received last months rent from E that's between C and E. It's the same story for your security deposit (if you paid one). After you move out C, as your current landlord, owes you the security deposit back, plus interest, minus any legitimate deductions regardless of whether C received that security deposit from E or not. It was C's responsibility, when they purchased the building, to ensure they collected the last months rent and/or security deposits for all the tenants in the building from the former owner. Their failure to do so cannot be made your problem as a tenant.
So my lease term ended, and I vacated the rent and only gave my landlord a verbal notice about a week ago that I was going to vacate the house when the lease day ends. Now the landlord says that I had to give a 60 day notice and pay an additional month of rent. Do I have to do what he's saying if I didn't renew the lease, and vacated the property on the day it expired?
You must give a written notice to vacate, it must be written and dated and signed by you. And if you give it 1 day before the 30 days, you will need to wait till the following month to leave. READ YOU CONTRACT
? Guys if my landlord told at the beginning I can have a roommate and he gave him permission to stay and added him to my lease but he end up moving out and so I ask him could my ex wife stay with me he said anit no one suppose to be stay with me didn't he just told a lie and is there something I can do about it?
So, if you are a woman who made a verbal agreement and went back to a former IPV partner that forced you into labor, sexually harassed/abused you, you try filing another report/EPO with local law enforcement having jurisdiction, AND your are homeless with no money, all shelters are full, and legal aid doesn't return any calls after speaking on the phone and leaving messages, what then? As a former housewife completely dependent on him, what do I do?

Question. I have an electrical issue in my apartment. They sent a technician out a week ago. The technician bought several LED lights. We tenants are responsible for tge bulbs. However, I didn't request the bulbs for the overhead light fixture in the kitchen. Anyway, when the technician went to open the breaker box, the hall light, came back on. He didn't have to replace that bulb. He also told me not to mention the 2 bulbs that he replaced in my kitchen. That evening, t b.f e lights were not still working. I reached out to the tech, no reply. I called the the property manager and told him the lights are still not working. He then tells me that I'm responsible for paying for the bulbs that were replaced in which I didn't request. I asked for the invoice and it was $55 for the 2 bulbs. The property manager decided to add that charge to my rent and the issue still hasn't been fixed! I sent the video to the property manager about the issue. After that, the company called to schedule an appointment to come out again. emailed him and told him that I was not able to pay for the charge because the problem was not fixed and that I didn't request those bulbs. I normally buy my own. My rent is due today. What should I do? By the way. My contract ends with the old landlord today bc a new landlord bought this property. I did renew my lease though.
I'm not easily rattled and yet I am crying as I type this. I've done all of these things, I have photos, I have everything in writing, I have no debts to my landlord. He will not fix anything. When I ask, he emails me stating that I am a problem, I'm being unrealistic, and I need to find another place to live. I don't have the money to move again (I've been here 2 months). He shows up unannounced despite my asking him not to do that, I work from home and he causes a disturbance, and he still will not repair anything when he comes over. I honestly believe he comes here when I am gone as well. Everything is documented. I cannot afford an attorney and I cannot afford to move. Any advice or feedback is welcome / thanks for reading.
If you can afford to pay rent which I suppect that your landlord is upset because you are NOT PAYING RENT, then you can afford to MOVE. So stop looking for pity and get yourself up and move.

My landlord makes it sound like I'm trying to start a problem our heat is included in the rent what can I do besides move and don't forget I didn't have this problem for 4 years which the landlord will tell you something to do with how the heater set up and also I have all my heater vents blocked because of when he turns it up it would even be warmer than 91° if I hadn't....update the landlord Becky stocker refused to renew my monthly lease no reason why given so I'm living out of my car currently no where would let me file a complaint neither not health depth. I am renting a warehouse here Byrne road ,Burnaby B.C v5j3h6 before i rent this warehouse in Janauary 2022 , it's only $2000 2021 but when occupied this in January the landlord raised into $ 2500.00 a month which i cannot back off because I already buy the business that operates here. And now 3 weeks ago the landlord told me that he will be increasing the start 9f January 2023 from $2500.00 to $3500.00 is this legal to make the rental as high as like that.
I could really use some guidance. In Missouri, is it legal for a landlord to: A)Claim that an insurance company is coming through to "appraise the property", but instead, walk a potential buyer with no insurance affiliations through your residence in order to sell it to them? (Previous owner) B)Not answer phone calls? (Current owner) C)Mandate that all payments and maintenance requests go through an app? (current owner) (The complex is full of pensioners and elderly people that do not own smart phones. Some of these folks have lived here for 20+ years, always paying their rent in form of money order or check- now that, literally overnight, the place has changed hands, they no longer accept these forms of payment, stating that "it doesn't work that way anymore" and "if you don't have a smart phone, you should get one before the month is over".) These new landlords are snakes. They ostensibly use the tenants lack of a cell phone to deny them use of the laundry, the ability to request a repair, and/or pay their rent, but even the few people that submitted to the new changes say they still haven't been able to get a maintenance man to fix even the most basic plumbing issues. It seems to me that they have no intention of fixing anything anyways, and are simply waiting for our leases to expire. Help us out with any guidance you might have. Thank you to whomever can help.
My landlord owns half of the town and pays no taxes on most of his places. Barely fixes places up that he buys, some of his rental units have burned down from not updating the wiring.
Just taking my chances.. maybe someone can help me out and give me tips with what to do with my situation on the apartment we live in. So we basically had a fire that started from the kitchen, we were not sure if the fire started from what we were cooking or from the old stove that the apartment came with. But anyway, the property management told us that they are just gonna move us to another unit that they were fixing up, they said that it would be finished in 2-3 weeks and after that we can move in. Property management told us that the rent is gonna be a bit more since everything in that unit was renewed. We agreed and was looking forward to finally moving to that new unit. 1 month later and we are still in the same unit with a burned down kitchen unable to even cook or wash dishes due to the damage. We asked what's the update and they said it's almost done. We already packed out things and most are in boxes ready to go. 6 months later... still in the same unit with a burnt kitchen. No repairs whatsoever. Not to mention looking like a fool with all our stuff in boxes so now we always have to dig inside each box whenever we need the plates, clothes, etc everyday. Now it's almost gonna be a year and still nothing.. with a kitchen that can't be used to cook anything in.. and Im just frustrated with this whole thing that it seems like they're not taking us seriously and basically taking their time and do nothing while we pay rent every month while all we get is to live In this small apartment with no kitchen for almost a year. I just want to know if the management are in the wrong here and also our rights as renters. Bcs I have that feeling that we are not being treated right in this situation. Maybe somebody can give a little knowledge bcs I'm so close to resolving this situation my way we're people might get hurt that's for sure. Thanks in advance.. anything helps 👍✌️🙏
I like the part where she talks about acting fast when you get an eviction notice. Waiting or ignoring it is the worst thing you can do. I've gotten two eviction notices within the past three months. The first eviction was resolved because I immediately took the notice to the Rental Assistance Office, who paid my landlord the back rent that I owed her. I did the same thing with the second notice and I hope that will work out too. If not, I'll have to get all my papers together and defend myself in The Magistrate's Court, and I'm definitely NOT looking forward to that!
I'm asking that the management before walkthroughs place shoe covers on. They say NO! I believe it's a reasonable request. Do I have that right? He said you know you rent this? He said, you were notified in advance of the walkthrough? I said yes. He said, you're not allowing us to enter? I said no. You're welcome to come in, but im just asking you to wear shoe covers to not track dirt, viruses or bacteria into my home. Can they evict me for this?

Its horrible, and to make worse, the gambling is causing a lot water consumption the guests, the game player go to the bathroom every 5 minutes by flushing the toilet
What do you do except move out when you're living in a non-smoking community where there's smoking? And you're constantly telling the landlord that your apartment is still filled with cigarette smoke and they do nothing about it.
As a landlord of 30+ years, I have found that the best way for a tenant to protect their rights is to read and follow their lease, and to pay the rent in full, on time.

Private landlords need tenants. Tenants don't need private landlords. Most private landlords are operating in the red which is why they try to break laws and circumvent the legal system so much.
If Tenants don't need landlords , why do they pay money to live in the landlords property, and cry when they are told to leave.
If a landlord was in the red? The tenant wouldn't have a place to live. Because they would be given notice to vacate the premises, after the home is foreclosed on
@@Chris66able you never know why they they are made to leave my situation is crazy what I am dealing with worst landlords ever
My moms landlord recently
1 Entered her Aprtment Illegally 2 that we know of
2 Illegally evicted her
3 illegally changed her locks at least 1
4 threatened her life directly more than once and indirectly threatened violence on another occashion
5 illegally shut off her water Partly and shut her toilet water off.
My mom Faithfully struggled and payed his rent all through covid until she lost her job around christmas, allways payed late fees for late rents, was allways quiet and respectfull. the police told hime 2 that he was legally in the wroung as did nabourhood legal services , her landlord will not listen to the law or dissist. I hate to say this but i have never know a person who did not have trouble with landlords.
Did you give your landlord a Declaration of Moratorium Form signed when he gave that notice, I think its against the law to do this, landlord could get in big trouble
Sad story. Did she try to apply for COVID rent assistance?
MOVE OUT AND DON'T LOOK BACK
They’re the scum of the earth man, straight up parasites
Guess I'm not moving there. Thanks
That’s why they call them landLORDs they own us 😢
Realty company for my area is from Arizona and they have papers charges just to put a notice on your door stating it's for late payment of rent (when your rent has been paid), but reminder doesn't state what it's for and you can make arrangements. Two days later they put another notice with another paper charge that's a three day notice to terminate rental agreement in thirty days and leave out all your legal rights. You are questioning and trying to figure out what's going on and then told it's in your lease, then they say they are hanging up, because you are just f-ing crazy.
So sorry to hear that - Arizona is a strange place - I don’t live there thank god

And if the tenant changes the locks after move-in without notice?

Which country you are talking ?
My home is not habitable! The heat has stopped working, there is mold growth in the kitchen cabinets, there's no smoke detector, no ventilation, one door won't close all the way, water drips in the bedroom window when it rains. The worst part is the roaches have taken over the whole front half of our home since it has gotten cold. No matter how much we clean, they are everywhere. We can't even sit in the living room anymore and watch tv without roaches crawling on us. I'm also pretty sure they have formed a colony in the back of our tv.
WHY ARE YOU STILL THERE.....MOVE OUT
... pay the rent due on time
That makes the landlord very responsive to tennant requests. A good tenant is a very valuable asset.
I have to be out September 30 he's not telling me why he's not renewing my lease
We're sorry that is happening. Hope you were able to resolve the issue!
Did they serve you with written Notice to Quit? Have you been to court already?
They also did not pass inspection so ive been told by a neighbor they cant evict anyone till they pass inspection not sure what i should do
What if they padlock the front door, right after a 3 day notice?

Corporate it's of no
help at all and they
end up calling manager to tell them of tenants reports. Also that same man is Hawaiian and had lots of ancestor collectable
go to city office , building codes / code enforcement . And i don't think visitor restrictions are legal either .
Wonder if your already in the place and this stuff is happening! Desperation gets the best of us when we have kids so.. Had to move in that place.

READ YOU CONTRACT

what constitutes "sole residence" in NYC?
So, if you are a woman who made a verbal agreement and went back to a former IPV partner that forced you into labor, sexually harassed/abused you, you try filing another report/EPO with local law enforcement having jurisdiction, AND your are homeless with no money, all shelters are full, and legal aid doesn't return any calls after speaking on the phone and leaving messages, what then?

Look for homeless shelters farther away
Maybe it's your local shelters that are full but maybe miles away they might be not.

YOU DO KNOW THAT YOU RENTED AN APARTMENT AND NOT A MOTEL RIGHT? The landlord is not responsible for replacing your lite bulbs.

I could really use some guidance.
In Missouri, is it legal for a landlord to:
A)Claim that an insurance company is coming through to "appraise the property", but instead, walk a potential buyer with no insurance affiliations through your residence in order to sell it to them? (Previous owner)
B)Not answer phone calls? (Current owner)
C)Mandate that all payments and maintenance requests go through an app? (current owner)
(The complex is full of pensioners and elderly people that do not own smart phones. Some of these folks have lived here for 20+ years, always paying their rent in form of money order or check- now that, literally overnight, the place has changed hands, they no longer accept these forms of payment, stating that "it doesn't work that way anymore" and "if you don't have a smart phone, you should get one before the month is over".)
These new landlords are snakes.
Missouri is full of snakes

Did you call the fire department?
I make a house and price a landlord do want to make me get my water what can I do
I like the part where she talks about acting fast when you get an eviction notice.

My owner keeps coming over whether I give him permtion or not
Keep a log, learn your county small claims website
Even if I didn't get justice yet. .every magistrate. Should take into consideration . That many hud property manegers have violated tenants right in public housing. . It makes you wonder why someone would just want to display wicked power over a place . . When the work place is where you service people.
Record and keep records
My landlord is allowing my neighbor to have gambling activities above my apt. It causes a lot noise, they are doing this gambling more than 1 year. They start the gambling even at 5:00am. What do you do except move out when you're living in a non-smoking community where there's smoking? And you're constantly telling the landlord that your apartment is still filled with cigarette smoke and they do nothing about it.
What you can is get your own hhouse and stop living as a leech
MOVE OUT....STOP BEING STUBBORN AND JUST LEAVE.
What state???
As a landlord of 30+ years, I have found that the best way for a tenant to protect their rights is to read and follow their lease, and to pay the rent in full, on time.
And for some reason those are the tenants who end up with landlords who try to take advantage of them
#1 Pay your rent on time!
