JP you don't know me but I was part of the PA National Guard unit that assisted you guys during the 1st mission you talked about. It was a pleasure and honor to serve with you guys.
I remember as a kid watching the frogmen students go through BUDS, we lived in the Naval housing and I went to Silver Strand Elementary school in Coronado. My Dad was a Sr. Chief Petty Officer. It really bothered me as a kid to see how "mean" all those men were to them (from a kids point of view). While explaining my feelings to my Dad about them I can still remember him telling me those were the toughest best men in the world and the "mean" people were actually their friends making them tougher and better. I lost my Dad a few years ago and every time I see a video like this it brings him back for a few moments. Thank you JP for your service.

Mr. Johnson, I trained with some great Canadians in Germany in the late 80's. I was a medic in an American tank unit and besides training side by side we competed in the 1989 Canadian Army Trophy competition which is among NATO tank units. Germany beat us all in the Leopard II. Lots of good memories. I remember the Canadian medics had morphine in their aid bags but we Americans had to sign it in and out of the Aid Station before and after training. It's funny how you remember things like that. JP was one of my favorite frogmen at Team 3. So many guys in Charlie loved to see new guys suffer and flounder. But JP wanted you to succeed at all costs. It was almost as if he was the complete opposite of Kevin Lace.

JP Dinnell great timing. He was telling me last night that he didn’t think he would be able to go to college because he has Autism. He is on the spectrum but not bad. I told him as of right now he is not going to college because he has made the decision to do the bare minimum with his school work not because of Autism. Autism is not going to keep him from college his level of effort is. He is going to see your message this morning. Thanks again for thinking of him and your service.

My grandfather had a similar character. He tried to toughen me up. The lessons jelled after he passed. As we get older, we see those people who were able to make me accountable for my actions and then I held myself in check. Thank you.
I'm so grateful that he did this. I consider him my replacement. Because he did this, I didnt have to. Not to mention I couldn't do what he did. I hope I can live in a way and raise my kids in a way that respects his sacrifice and the ultimate sacrifice of so many others. There is nothing I can do to repay this. I am so humbled watching this.

For those wondering about his rifle: Remington 700 action, accuracy international chasis, bushell ers 3.5-21 scope, chambered for 6.5 Creedmoor. His buddy built it for him.
Curious about the scope. Forgive me if this question is ignorant, I have limited knowledge of guns mostly pistols. What is the maximum range of a 21x scope on this weapon? I guess I'm trying to understand how the 21x equates to meters or yards, would it mean the max range is 2100 meters? So if he's at 3.5 does that equate to 3.5 meters? Is this right?
@@Twisted_utopia scope magnification is purely optical and doesn't translate directly to effective range. A 21x power scope simply makes the target appear 21 times closer than the naked eye.

I went through a similar situation at the Navy recruiter’s office. I was so pissed I politely asked them where the Marine Corps recruiter was. He pointed South and said Waco Texas. I never looked back.

When you were holding the flag, i realized what my memories are when I see it. It's all the backyard BBQs on 4th of July, or the memorial day family bass fishing tournaments we had through the years. Dude, get real. Rangers have to rescue those guys all the time. The 82nd Airborne had to bail them out. SEALs get pinned down. They have to get rescued. In Vietnam, it was a different story. The SEALs put facepaint on and hid in the jungle and ambushed people. When it comes down to it, SEALs ain't shit in a firefight. Who do YOU want to be with when it boils down to fighting an enemy of 50? You wanna be with 4 SEALs or fucking 25 guys from the 82nd Airborne. SEALs are good for certain things such as sneaking up on a clueless enemy. So long as they're not seen, they do ok. They're assassins. They're good at trying to sneak up on a compound and bust in to kill people. The lies that came from Marcus Lutrell are ridiculous. Of course you're going to lie and boost your buddies up to make them look like heroes. Marcus was on the side of the mountain and KNEW if he got seen he'd be killed. The taliban saw his buddies and his buddies couldn't fight 25 men. 25 on one? You'll lose. There's no superman there. There's a human being. Marcus hid and stayed quiet and got the fuck outta dodge. He knew if he opened fire and tried to rescue his buddies, those 30 soldiers would have smashed him. It wasn't 100 soldiers. It was about 30 who went after the SEALs. SEALs are humans, not a fucking superhero. Green Berets call in air support.

@@rt1164 Asthma beyond 13 years of age is considered disqualifying in all branches of the military. There are ways to overcome it, however, be careful telling a recruiter that. Look up stories and you'll find it's possible with some cases of asthma.

My company paid for me to go to the Echelon Front Training and JP was one of the instructors. He was just like you see in the video. I remember he had a slight cough the day we did the Field Training. I offered him a cough drop I pulled out of my pocket. He said thanks and started to unwrap it and I said "it's been in my pocket so it's nice and warm" (from Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and started laughing. He just gave me a sly grin and handed it back saying "I'll pass". Definitely someone you instantly like. All the guys were cool and you could tell they had a rough sense of humor but were holding it back to be professional. That's one thing I really miss about the Navy, unchecked comedy from the guys.

@@realasscracka I was up north in Kunar and know exactly what he means. I started as a 17 year old kid in basic in 1991 and my career ended in 2010 after being medevacd following an 8 1/2 hour constant firefight. I shared a valley with 32 fellow Soldiers including 3 fellow team members a SME and a terp. I was a DM as my secondary job and an assistant team leader. I never lost a team member on my watch but had to cover down and take over another team who lost guys. Its rough to step into but you know it has to be done.
The best and worst memories of my life are from Afghanistan. I remember people that were lost after I left and people from other teams that I talked to alot.
Having EOD knock on the door of my hooch at 3am after a heavy op tempo cycle saying, we have UXO leaning against your hooch chief....you are going to have to go to a shelter. I remember saying whatever...do your thing, I'm going back to sleep. Got a knock about 20 min later it went like this.

You can tell the brotherhood is a real thing. Any clip you see of a former SEAL speaking, especially JP, it’s always the most emotional and pure part. @@benlogan2622 You sure do write a lot for someone uninterested in my opinion. If you weren't lead by your nose you would know that the Iraq war was created on a false premise. We were told it was about WMD, then when they couldn't be found it was democracy, when any thinking person knows it was for oil. I would not be proud of being sent to fight in a false war, nore would I brag about it. No clear thought was given to what would happen to Iraq once the dictator was removed. Many of us in Amnesty had been highlighting Saddam's gross abuse of human rights for years but he was Americas best friend because he was fighting Iran. Iraq fell into total chaos, America left and ISIS and all its atrocities was born. Then we have people decrying 'liberals' for thinking while hero worshiping a guy who says that God has sent him to kill people...God bless America and its interfering wars.
