I've spent many many nights in Golden-gai and had plenty of fun. Lots of places are aimed at foreigners, but you don't have to go to them. The majority of the staff don't speak English, at least in the places I have been. It's overly famous due to instagram etc, but there's plenty to like about it. The bars are small, and you're typically sat at counters, so you can have a lot of interactions with the staff and regulars. There is a scene, people know each-other. I'm not recommending people go, especially if they don't speak Japanese and will cause problems around the cover system, but it's not 100% some tourist shithole.

That’s fair, I see how I could have overly stereotyped it as just for tourist’s.
I’ll probably drop by another time without filming to try and find local spots, felt pretty rough since in front of Golden Gai there were 5 African touts posted up + lots of tourists being super noisy in the bar.
I’ll pin this as a fair review comment, appreciate your time interacting with the video!
