Is Ikebukuro Tokyo’s Best Anime Culture Zone?
I think it’s the best due to significantly lighter crowds + proximity to really great food. Akhibara is just overcrowded and unless you specifically want Maid Cafes there is super limited availability of good nightlife.

Danger in Japan’s Nightlife Areas? Responding to comments and sharing some thoughts.

Japan is a safe and welcoming country, however there are still malicious elements (people and groups) just like anywhere in the world. • @HenrysFreeJapanInfo
      @HenrysFreeJapanInfo วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for watching! Very common, especially port cities (near the oceans) since they have historically had a lot of commerce and domestic travel. Usually the zones which have the adult shops have been licensed for 100+ years and over time it is becoming much less common for new licenses to get issued.

      @HenrysFreeJapanInfo CBD can actually be broken down into many compounds and used for many reasons. CBN is used for sleep. THCV is used for energy and focus but very expensive. D9 is a mix of compounds for the mind and D8 is a mix of compounds for the body. So many parts of the plant can be used without getting "high", and you don't have to inhale it either.

    • @HenrysFreeJapanInfo
      @HenrysFreeJapanInfo 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for the breakdown! Hopefully the shop staff are as professional and offer safe choices. The one’s I’ve check before were sadly very much pushing the concept that THC-xyz can be equivalent in a psychoactive sense. Might be an early phase of the market in Japan or because I was a foreigner going in as opposed to a regular customer. I still do find it weird they would use the term Weed for the store when selling mainly CBD products. In clubs or music bars you will occasionally find vending machines of CBD blunts which is just hilarious and makes the kids cough while trying to look cool.

    • @HenrysFreeJapanInfo
      @HenrysFreeJapanInfo 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Those type of flower shops with very high prices and pre-set arrangements + in an Izakaya / bar rather than living area are for gifts to Kyabakura girls or for business anniversaries. I use normal flower shops alot and prices are 1/10th at most compares to the ones I show when wandering nightlife zones!

    I would say for Japan these seem to be a lil outdated considering everyones got a smartphone these days you wouldn't even need a controller to tether to something worth watching from. You could easily rent whatever from the server via wifi. Maybe its still part of the experience to have something physical to do there. Rather than virtual.

      Thanks for watching and commenting! I’m always amazed by how many people are buying new / used adult dvds when I visit stores. Thanks for commenting, From Los Angeles originally! Moved out to Singapore for university then to Japan 2 years ago when I realised I didn’t fit into the working culture in Singapore. It was always a dream of mine to live here and I figured why not just make the move early instead of waiting for retirement. I would suggest finding a short term rental place (many month to month companies like Hmlet) and trying that out first. Entry level work here is very low paying (even for foreigners) so save some money first and have other income channels.

I understand there is a sexual connotation to the space because of some of the film offerings - but in general it’s a positive public service beyond that usage - to have a space to just chill be indoors, do whatever , have a meal, take a nap, watch a show, have a shower. • @HenrysFreeJapanInfo

      That’s honestly facts, but the multicultural illegal labor part is what made me feel super surprised in Kinshico. I think Japan has a really strong public (police)/ private (community patrols) system that other countries should learn from. Businesses and other “orginizations” all chip in. To be fair also Japan does have a big mix of Asian immigrants, just much fewer westerners and Middle Eastern immigrants.

In Tokyo Ikebukuro has consistently surprised me for Food in terms of quality, service, and value! As someone who comes from UK's North West, I have never really thought of Kinshicho or Kabukicho as rough or dangerous to be honest. I guess it just depends on what you are used to, as to where your gauge rests. I would describe both as being somewhat like Tokyo's version of Manchester. Full of character, lots of options, mostly safe but with the potential for the visitor to make bad decisions. Regardless of the area or country, NEVER follow a tout. Don't even stop for them, just walk past they won't bother you. Funnily enough, I go to see my friends band play at a live house just opposite that Sara love hotel, every month! 😂

    • @HenrysFreeJapanInfo
      @HenrysFreeJapanInfo 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s a great analogy, thanks for watching and commenting! I guess I was more surprised by how brazen the international selection of touts is, makes me feel like there is very little police oversight of the nightlife area + the local “shops association” is super loose on their cracking down. I understand having tons of massage scam ladies in places like Omiya since that is Saitama but was surprised by the mix of objectively sketchy men as well as the massage scams. I’ve also never seen any non-African / East Asian international touts, I guess that also raised an eyebrow for me since it shows what other “groups” have influence in the area. Roppingi and Kabukicho I understand there are “arrangements” behind the scenes and security patrols are also clear. Even Ikibukuro which is apparently “managed” by joint control with Chinese businesses is alright and feels safe. Glad to hear it’s safe to enjoy and will give it a second (third) chance for sure! The Kameido Gyoza there is super good.

      @HenrysFreeJapanInfo 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Atmosphere there felt like many eyes are constantly on you from the touts in a way that even Kabukicho doesn’t compare with. The touts are also very internationally mixed and loiter freely in the middle of the roads, even the free info shops felt really run down and the staff do not dress in a way that feels reliable. Just some things I pick up on in comparison to other nightlife areas! I would agree with the comment from Phil I pinned above, he has a very fair analogy and points out it’s a safe area just not to follow Touts ever.

      I’d recommend the nicer shops (Kintaro/Hanataro) more so than any particular videos lol. There is such a wild quantity of selections: New releases, Famous actresses, Famous Series, Specific brands, and more advanced stuff lol. I’d say follow your heart based on the cover but be careful since some have crazy runtime (240 mins+) and it becomes a marathon at some point since you can check out ~ 5 videos 💪💪

      🔥🔥🔥 I’ll be back in the spring to wander more, hella cold and windy since there’s so few tall buildings to block the wind.

    many good chill bars to go and drink at around ikebukuro? or should i just head into shinjuku?

    • @HenrysFreeJapanInfo
      @HenrysFreeJapanInfo 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you want bars to chill around in you can honestly find great spots in / around Ginza for upscale. If not so upscale then try Shimbashi, just don’t follow the street massage ladies. If you want a dense Nightlife area Ikebukuro is the best in terms of accessibility and options with very few dangerous touts (go for East / North exit). Shinjuku might seem to have more spots but way too many touts and scams. Edit: Shibuya is honestly aight too if you want younger crowd, I have a walkthrough explaining the clubs + one good music bar at the start.

      Thanks for commenting! I’ve been wanting to buy one myself and setup a little DVD room, should be a fun project. You’ll probably have a great time shopping for Normal / Adult DVD’s in Japan 😂. There is a store called Bookoff that has a ton of used movies in great condition + all those aforementioned “adult novelty” stores lol.

    i remember you talking about this in a previous video about what you were going to do after you got done with the 23 wards. would be cool to see longer more indepth explorations maybe cut down to only highlight certain aspects or what really stands out or like a tour of your favorite places. these improvised videos are alot of fun still though! just had a thought

      Thanks for watching! I’ve actually seen quite a few public protests by Japanese people near station for that lol. Apparently it’s a situation of always under medical review + the government has taken such a harsh stance it is next to impossible to relax it. There are lots of dodgy vapes which are apparently legal but I would avoid them on health concerns.

    • @Hananh
      @Hananh 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      yeah they have hhc vapes and thcp in sketchy shops but they both have a higher risk of triggering psychosis or underlying schizophrenia. so i'd stay away from them.

      Thanks for adding that context, I felt something was off with them but couldn’t pin down exactly what. I just filmed a short video in front of one “Dispensary” in Ikebukuro, will upload that now.

    I've spent many many nights in Golden-gai and had plenty of fun. Lots of places are aimed at foreigners, but you don't have to go to them. The majority of the staff don't speak English, at least in the places I have been. It's overly famous due to instagram etc, but there's plenty to like about it. The bars are small, and you're typically sat at counters, so you can have a lot of interactions with the staff and regulars. There is a scene, people know each-other. I'm not recommending people go, especially if they don't speak Japanese and will cause problems around the cover system, but it's not 100% some tourist shithole.

    • @HenrysFreeJapanInfo
      @HenrysFreeJapanInfo 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s fair, I see how I could have overly stereotyped it as just for tourist’s. I’ll probably drop by another time without filming to try and find local spots, felt pretty rough since in front of Golden Gai there were 5 African touts posted up + lots of tourists being super noisy in the bar. I’ll pin this as a fair review comment, appreciate your time interacting with the video!
