This is honestly the part about Xander’s videos that makes him so magical. Tons of guys do it but Xander has perfected it. He knows how to tell a compelling visual story with his angles and timing of clips. He is incredible and I personally would hate to have that magic “stolen” from me by having it all explained for me. I love being surprised each time like a kid at a magic show. Keep the wonder alive Xander. That’s my vote at least. And anyone who agrees with me can like my comment or they can like the one above me if they want to see the magic ruined. Lol.

Another epic adventure! Fatwood is wonderful. I love the smell, the sight of the dark, resinous smoke signaling success. A little tip you may already know: file the spine of your Mora to a sharp 90° angle, then scrape the fatwood sticks with the spine. It creates a sticky “dust” like what you got with the Leatherman (?) that takes a spark more easily than shavings.

Filing the spine also allows it to be better used for throwing sparks from a ferro rod. Most knives have a ever so slightly rounded spine which just slips along the ferro rather than scraping it deep enough to throw a shower of sparks.

so i tried overnight winter camping for the first time in minus 27 C. i was in a tipi hot tent, with a stove, and a ridiculous amount of sleep system gear, and only kinda-sorta limped by. not comfortable, but doable. so to see you out there with only a tarp and an open fire, it blows my mind to see you tough it out in stride, especially with less kit! you're a warrior!

It got to -20 only on his last day, it looked like it was about -5-10 during the rest of the video. Otherwise he would've definitely received frostbite on his hands while working with tools and no gloves at the very least.

A truism about the food. At home, not so much. But camping in the cold.... that's some good cooking!

“Put things in a pot and add cheese until it tastes good” is my favorite cooking method.
Also, when you cook meat and have potatoes with it, put the juice left behind in the pot over the potatoes. It is 😙👌🏻

I keep seeing a reacuring theme on this channel, croissant sandwiches, tortilla, cheese and salami wraps, baked potato with cheese and green onions. But cheese seems to be the cohesive factor. Food is life I agree.
