This is the first ever camping video of yours that I watched. And now, after finishing all your videos, I'm watching this one for the second time. It is an absolute pleasure watching you do your thing man! I just love the way you appreciate your camping experience, the way you make and enjoy your food, and the way you make people smile with your goofy humour. What I love about this video in particular is the two second shot of your vehicle in what looks to be your neighborhood. Clearly several homes in the area. It shows that you can live in the city and the wilderness doesn’t have to be in your backyard to enjoy a little getaway. With a little planning and some travel you too can have a fun adventure for a day or weeks at a time to get away from the madness of society. Thank you for that.
Thank you so much for the content you post, Xander. I have done a series of canoe trips, the longest of the them being 50 days, spanning across, Biscotasing, Kiapawa, Algonquin, Quetico, French River, Spanish River, Lake Superior etc. Unfortunately, due to school I haven't been able to head into the woods for a few years. Your videos allow me to reminisce of my time in the bush and bring back memories close to my heart. Thank you once again!
A quote for everyone to live by: "I'm gonna die one day, so it's important that I live a really solid life every single day!" Thank you Xander for another amazing inspirational experience.
As an undergrad student in Toronto, your vids have legit inspired me to book some solo 1 nighters in the Algonquin backcountry this spring/summer. Massive thanks dude 🙏
Hey man! Love the content! You mentioned changing it up your routine a little bit. Which made me instantly think about Cave Camping. I use to go caving where we would be underground for 6-12 hours at a time. Ive camped twice in a cave and its an experience like no other. With good lights and a couple Canadian cavers it would definitely change up the routine. It made me see camping from a different perspective with no sunlight, wood, or shelter.
@@XanderBudnick I live on the east coast of the US so we just go to local ones here. In terms of locations in Canada you could reach out to some local grottos or clubs to see if you could join a trip. You would most likely need a guide or at least two others with you for safety. But only certain caves have a “sleep-able” area.
Army vet here. Put your heaviest items in your pack on the top. Lightest on bottom (sleep system). Your heavy items will drag your momentum back, strain shoulders as you move with it. Having heavier items on top pushes you forward, less strain on your back.
Heavy on top means you have more strain on every part of your body as you are more susceptible to being thrown of balance and or falling over in my opinion. Especially dangerous strategy when traveling alone over slippery surfaces.
It’s so amazing that each video is relatively the same content and yet so unique at the same time. I always watch in anticipation of watching the fire being built and the shelter assembled. Not to mention his cooking content!

So enjoying your channel, Xander - when I was a kid, my family used to drive up from Virginia, and later South Carolina to the Grassy River-Mond Lake Lowlands and Ferris Lake Uplands Provincial Park in Ontario to camp for a couple of weeks in the summer. Those were the absolute BEST childhood memories - the long drive up was an adventure itself, driving all through the night. It was Dad, Mom, my two sisters and I, and our dog, Lady - packed up in the 1970 Ford Station Wagon with two canoes strapped on top, Army issue duffle bags and coolers stuffed with food, gear, clothes etc. We’d drive in as far as we could, then tie the two canoes together like a catamaran, one canoe was a square back, and had a 5HP outboard. We also just paddled a lot, of course. We’d load up all of us, and our stuff, launch the canoes, and motor off into the wilds, normally not seeing another human for the next two weeks. We’d fish for Northern Pike, Walleyes, and the occasional Perch. We could only haul in so much food, so we ate a lot of Pike! It was like the Monty Python Sketch: “What’s for afters? Wellll….. there’s pike pudding, pike pie, pike cake, or strawberry tart. Strawberry tart?!! Welll…, it’s got some pike in it. How much? Three - rather a lot, really. Well, I’ll have a slice without so much pike in it. 😆😂😆 We’d pick blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries in season, too. I remember being sung to sleep by the Northern Loons, and the White Throated Sparrows - seeing Bear, Moose, Beaver, Kingfishers, making little birchbark canoes to play with in the water - swimming and snorkeling (in 7mm wetsuits!) Dad and I both caught 32”+ Pike - 11+ pounders over the years, but the best eating were the smaller ones. Sometimes, we’d road trip to a tiny little town, like Gowganda at some point for supplies, but generally not. That was cheating! We camped on the Grassy Lake, and the Upper Grassy River. Great campfires, Dad would build these cool little docks of Aspen and Birch we’d dive off of, and these huge, long swings that would swing us way out over the water! Sometimes we’d take a long canoe ride, portage over a couple of Beaver dams, and go all the way to Ferris Lake for a day or so. I remember harvesting these big brown freshwater clams there, and frying them in butter -mmmm. Anyway, such wonderful memories- this was mid-late 70’s and I was 8-11 years old at the time. I have always wanted to return - and one day, I will. You inspire me. Keep doing what you’re doing!

Thank you for adding the camping gear and the links. I'm retiring in 60 days and I really want to return to camping and this is a great place to start. I also want to thank you for the videos, they are such a pleasure to watch.
Like you buddy! Nothing more cool than enjoying a meal in the wild without worrying about juice dripping off ones chin. Love it. You remind me of my son. I once said to him "Stuart, don't do that, people are watching you" and he raised his left eyebrow and said "Mom, who are the people? I am the people". So now he does game driving at Rhino River Lodge in South Africa, loves his lions, rhinos, elephants, snakes 🐍 and wildlife and the people he drives around love him. Live and let live. To each his own and wish you many more enjoyable adventures. Cheers 🍻

Xander has the best outdoor videos! So wholesome, it feels like I’m camping with him.
You are a hella lot better than me with packing. You didn't even bring a footlocker lol
what’s a foot locker?
@@marblesoda._. It's a locker where you store feet
@@papabear9481 why would you bring that to a camp?
@@marblesoda._. In case your feet get wet while crossing a stream, you could open the footlocker and get a dry set of feet out of it.
@@papabear9481😂😂😂
I love how he didn't get hipster with the cooking, just good old fashioned cooking up a great meal. Great video.
I'm so jealous I wish I could be part of these adventures
You’ve have grown so much as creator and you truly show the best parts of being human. Thank you 😊
im pregnant
You must have had it by now
😂😂😂😂
Yeah op pls respond. Did you have the baby?
We had twins. Took it all the way to Jerry Springer but unfortunately it turned out that I am, in fact, the father. This comment is how I originally found out that she was pregnant. We used to love watching Xander together. In fact, Xander, will you be the godfather to our children. They're named Alexander and Exandria.
@@ape_zero its a boy
I’ve been watching from the early days, and all I know is I’m glad I found someone that carry’s the same crazy amount of unnecessary but awesome things I do. Including an ungodly amount of food. Enjoy it brother!
Forgot to brush your teeth THIS WEEK? Lol 🙈
Straight to the point and with the facts. I love your presentation. I get sick of posts that can't get to the point of their junk backpacking ideas.
This is you Xan, "Remember that time I poorly cooked oversized steak calzones? well how about I do that again but even more oversized?"
right now im trying to sober up and this channel really helps me getting relax and give me some sort of enjoyment..thanks xander and congrats on getting 400k+ subs...hope this channel continue growing and best of luck to you..
My 9 year old granddaughter said you have a desert stomach separate from dinner stomach
This dude I like..he doesn't care to show his mistakes and boo boos..he's cool
Has anyone told you that you a bit like young Jim carrey?
Thanks for making such great content, I love to watch at the end of the day to unwind. Can't wait for the next adventure
This sort of cold weather camping makes me think about how soft i am!
😂😂😂🤣😂🤣🤣🥲
At least you know, admitting it is the first step to growing harder
Another great video, I live pretentiously through the videos you post Xander, some of us can't get around the way you do and it takes me away from the office and busy life. As always plenty of Xander humor in this. Thanx.
I love your videos Zander. It is like man verses food in the back country. I can't believe you can eat all that food. The food and your sense of humor set you apart from the others. Keep them coming .
You actually take your time with this, not like other you tubers stying the night at some place calling it camping , love the vibe
It’s so cool watching your videos while I work. Your videos always bring a sense of calmness and happiness to my days. Thank you for posting.
man ive watched hundreds of backpacking/bushcrafting/thruhike videos you name it. this is probably one of my favourite videos, you keep it real and that calzone looks fire my guy. good stuff! xan da man 😎
Great intro! I usually skip the “what’s in my bag?” segments but that was concise and well done.
Very generous filming... a long walk back to the camera in that first hiking shot. Nice work! I am finding this channel inspiring!
Xander make some of the best backpacking videos out there, lots of tips and tricks, a sense of humor, and not afraid to admit when he screwed up and did something stupid. Keep it up 🙂
Thank you for adding the camping gear and the links.
Cheers 🍻
Every video... I absolutely know I'm gunna be thoroughly happy that it's time for a new Xander video and that I'm gunna burst out laughing at least once (but most often a few times more). Thanks brother 😁
Perfect! Thank you so much for taking us out there!
I've just recently found your channel and I'm super glad I did. It's given me a lot of ideas and knowledge for my own camping, and it's greatly inspired me to go out more often. Thank you so much for sharing this with us :)
Just sitting down to eat some pizza after a 5 day 4 night family car camping trip. We had the lowest temp of 29 degrees Fahrenheit and the warmest of 63 degrees (-1.6/17.2 deg. Celsius). Everything from clear blue skies to sleet to thunderstorms. Lots of good food. This video was the perfect way to end my day after our family's first camp trip of 2022.
Oh yeah, Tabasco, a perfect addition to any Bushcraft meal Xander. Love it brother.
Watching ur videos right bevor or while falling asleep is really comforting.
Greetings from Germany
I love what you do
Did a bit of it when I was your age and can’t anymore . The freedoms sensation is phenomenal and yes time flies faster than we think
Idk how else to describe and pls don‘t take it negatively, because it‘s ment very positive: i love your authentic chaotic energy :) this makes u very individually lovely ;)
That food looked awesome...bet it was delicious...especially outdoors camping everything tastes better !! You cook the best food of any of the other camper videos.
I abba-solutely love when you do your tasting your food or your Mayan hot chocolate and you utter “MMMMMM”
you are the only one who can make me finish a camping video here in yt! love ur videos
Dude, you've got to start a Patreon. So many people would support you with the incredible content you consistently put out.
Mmmmmmm nah, not so much. Merch? Maybe
Patreon is a great way to fund content. And it's a lot more accessible than merchandise, especially to overseas viewers.
@@ekirchubel nah he wouldn’t get patreon sponsors. Very few if any.
"I find your lack of faith disturbing."
I just want to say that you really touched on something that drives me everyday cuz the fact that yes we are going to die someday and it's best to live each day like it's your last and each day to the fullest God bless you!!!
You are smart, witty, funny, and kind. Good stuff. Very good filming, even though this was two years ago. You’ve improved for sure. Always good content. 👍🏼😎✌🏻
LMAO....Xander, another great video!!! Man your camping excursions are just friggin awesome!! I would say that EVERYONE needs a camping bud like you!! And holy cow, that Calzone!!! Awesome stuff!! Thanks for sharing and keep them coming!!
