    Something I love about this origin is it's one of the first to have an arc to it.
    With a few exceptions, most origins are the time just treated an origin as the starting point, Spider-Man actually has to change as a person before he can go from an everyday person to an adventurer.

    Bad habits of announcing every personal thought like a Shakespeare play aside, I do actually find the origins here portrayed rather nicely! There seems to be a nice build-up of how Peter Parker learns the iconic lesson "With great power comes great responsibility," plus Peter's obvious dislike of the public around him due to a majority of people disliking him for his nerdiness, which was pulled off nicely!
    "And now my fingers are honking! 8I" I bursted out laughing the first time I heard that!

    Why would a mother even bring their child to a horror movie in the 60's? I mean nowadays with all these PG-13 horror films, and some parents not thinking certain things through, many families go to see horror films... But in the 60's I just couldn't see a mother thinking that taking their child to a horror movie would be a good idea.

    • @nightmaretomb5294
      @nightmaretomb5294 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      they weren't bad in 1962. this might also have been a dig against the Comics Code which made it impossible to sell horror comics for a number of years. at the time of this story most horror movies would get a G rating if they came out today.

    • @AlluMan96
      @AlluMan96 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They aren't bad in proprotion to our standards today, but our tolerance to violence has always escelated, very rapidly in recent years. The Exorcist was considered abhorrent at it's time, allegedly causing people to faint and go hysteric in the theatres. It sounds ridiculous, but that's because entertainment has evolved in areas of grotesque imagery and psychological disturbance alike. This is from a time when "At midnight, I'll take your soul" was considered pushing the boundaries of good taste. It was only around the 70s, when movies like Last House on the Left and it's kin began to surface and truly push the limits of acceptable content. The 60s was an innocent time, when Hammer productions like Dracula and Frankenstein were considered "the limit."

    • @nightmaretomb5294
      @nightmaretomb5294 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Movie (and comic book) horror of the 60s was much less offensive than comic horror of the early 50s. The 60s in many ways was a return to earlier more innocent times before people started pushing the boundaries of what was acceptable again. The same thing happened in the mid-30s with the Hays Office. Horror films were blocked for a couple of years and forced to become less violent. Bride of Frankenstein made soon after had humorous scenes in it and made the Monster sympathetic. Later films made him a mindless destructive creature.

    Most super hero origin stories are pretty lousy or don't hold up over time. Spider-Man is one of the few exceptions as nearly every iteration is close to the original plot. There's a reason they love rebooting it in the movies because it's a solid story where as most origins are just trivial things you want to quickly get out of the way.

    • @ninakrishnamurthy6674

      I think it helps that Spider-Man is one of the relatively few superheroes whose origin is very important to the kind of hero he is. Compared that with Superman's origin. Yes, his Kryptonian roots are vital in the sense that they (and Earth's yellow sun) form the basis of his powers, but his moral character has nothing to do with his Kryptonian parents and everything to do with the Kents.

      In fact, Peter is the one who was manipulating everyone not only Mary Jane, but aunt May, Harry, Flash and many others just to be Spider-man. Not taking the acountability of working a real job as he was meant with his intelect. He dropped out of university just to be Spider-man and was fired from a science lab because he was absent so often. Mary Jane was in depression because he was almost never around and surprise surprise she was the breadwinner in their family while he was playing the superhero. Most of the times aunt May needed him because she had health issues he was fighting criminals instead of being next to his closest person, who loved him unconditionally. He prefers to help people who hate Spider-man in a lot of times than be next to his loved ones in need. Literally Peter Parker is like Peter Pan refusing to grow up.
