That intro for the Flash reminds me of those clickbait ads. "Scientists hate him! Fastest man alive after ONE night! Local man exposes secret to accessing the speed of Mercury. What he does next will STUN you!"
The Flash being a reincarnation of Mercury actually sounds like it would make for a pretty interesting separate take on the character (maybe it could be an origin for a new member of the Flash family).
"Whilst running, I've literally stumbled upon the perfect disguise! Who among them would believe I, Jay Garrick, stupid enough to wear this silly hat!"

Here's how I cope with the changes from the New 52; I see it as an alternate universe. To me, the world that was created after Flashpoint is really just an alternate universe that the creators decided to focus on, and that the DCU that existed prior to the reboot is still the main DCU.
KidSnivy69 Are you talking about Convergence? I actually haven't read that yet, but even with Convergence in mind, I still see the New 52 as an alternate reality.
My biggest issue with the reboot is that they have no idea what was rebooting and what was just carrying on from the old continuity. Why did they write Superman in Action Comics as if HE was starting from scratch, but Batman in ALL of his books was being written as if nothing changed? And where the Hell did Stargirl come from is there was no Starman in this universe from whom she could be inspired?
Bobsheaux Batman and GL continued in because Johns and Morrison's work on them were popular, and DC didn't want to risk losing the fans and money those tuns were making. Also, Stargirl was inspired by Geoff Johns' dead sister, and he had editorial power at the time. He sure wasn't going to let her be sent to Earth-2 with the rest of the JSA.
What's funny about Jay not getting a date because he's not a great player is how many mediocre to terrible NFL players have ended up marrying or at least dated Playboy models.
It kind of makes sense.....They were good enough to get to the NFL and then their carrer went downhill...which is pretty much the same for most women who did Playboy

Or perhaps make it a patreon goal, to do a second Secret Origins month earlier in the year focusing on the villains
Linkara hard water is a term for water with Calcium and Magnesium ions dissolved in it, mainly in spring water from under chalk hills, we have it here in Sussex (southern UK), it's not really that interesting, all it does is occasionally break things when the ions precipitate out inside pipes, also, according to some studies, hard water is good for heart disease. I can't think of any toxic fumes that would come out of it, unless he added some very funky chemicals to it.
Yeah, the comics would retcon that the accident did involve “heavy water” and that the exposure itself didn’t give Jay his speed powers, just activated his metagene.
Heh heh, very convenient timing with this one considering Jay Garrick will be appearing in Season 2 of the modern Flash show. It's also thanks to Linkara's look on the first 2000's Titans run that I became aware of Jessie Quick and am also excited for her to appear too. And now for the million dollar question: What tales will we expect for Secret Origins 2015?
+Trevor Merritt Which makes me wonder: Since the first Hawkman story was included in this comic, what is he going to call the Hawkman episode. "Flash Comics #1: Part 2"?
OMIGOD!!!THANKYOU!!!!!!!THANKYOUSOMUCHFORBEINGTHEFIRSTPERSON I HAVE SEEN TO DESCRIBE EXACTLY WHY THE NEW 52 SUCKS!!!!!! I COULD FREAKING HUG YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I have been a HUGE fan of DC's golden age heroes since my introduction to them when I was 10. I started out in comics by READING golden age comics, and I'm one of the rare fans who does that given my young age and the fact I was born in 2000.(Not too many 15 year olds are reading comics and pulp magazines that have been around before their grandparents were born. :) Anyway, you hit it right on the head. In DC trying to gain new readers they gave a big middle finger to the older ones by dismissing their sense of legacy. Grandparents, parents, and kids alike could all connect to the same characters in one extended, continuing and ongoing universe. Now, DC is ABANDONING that in favor of attracting more casual viewers, because, y'know, pissing off all your longtime fans in favor of gaining a smaller pool of younger fans (who have only care about the movies anyway) is SUCH a smart, profitable strategy. :) Anyway, awesome review. You've earned yourself a subscriber. :)
Hey, if business suits were good enough for 1930's drug pushers to wear at all times, as the totally accurate documentary Reefer Madness taught us, then they're good enough for science work!
Granted, it was a Patreon sponsered review and it wasn't also during Secret Origins Month. The episode premiered in January, I think. But, it's also coming to the point where the Bronze Age is turning nearly 40/50 years as old as the Silver Age of Comics was when this show stared. So, conventions of writing and content of the Bronze Age are going to start seeming laughably strange (in a different way) to readers of the 2020s.
I read this comic before watching this and I liked it especially for the time..flash stories were entertaining for golden age co.ics from the ones I read
Linkara like the longbox of the damned mid-summer nightmare paetron goal and being released maybe you could add that as a paetron goal in the future that would be pretty awesome.
So... this must be what future vision is like. Neat. Sorry, I saw you got a few comments on it already, just had to throw in my own little twist on it. Could be worse: for the first four months of 2013, I kept wanting to write 2012 whenever putting in the date. The fact that this is being posted as close to the start of 'Flash season 2' is also neat. I just wish 'Flash of Two Worlds' was the 1st episode of the 2nd season, not the 2nd... but I guess it's another sneaky tie into it being 'Earth 2' (2nd season, 2nd episode, lol...) Question for anyone actually reading this post: would there be interest in seeing Linkara review 'A Flash of Two Worlds'?
He might have also done it because it's also coming to the point where the Bronze Age (1970s-early 1990s) is turning nearly 40/50 years, as old as the Silver Age of Comics was when this show stared. So, conventions of writing and content of the Bronze Age are going to start seeming laughably strange (in a different way) to readers of the 2020s.
I know that this is sort of off topic, but what's your opinion on the graphic novel "Arkham Asylum: Serious House on Serious Earth"? Also, could you do an origin on Plastic Man? He's my favorite superhero that's not given enough credit.
I always found the a fun little golden age origin, no complaints here. Taking time to talk ruminations, I'm with Lewis on this one and was actually happy he brought it up in the Green Lantern 23.1 (though I understand why he cut it out.) Honestly while I like villains as much as the next guy, with a few exceptions I really don't care where they first show up. Heck I'd rather see Scott Lang, Captain Marvel Jr., The Vision, Jonah Hex, Aquaman just to name a few, long before any villains origins.
Plus its tough to do villians as most dont get a true origin story....I mean maybe we see them get their powers but for the best ones like Doom or Magneto their origin is really over many issues slowly filled in since the hero is the focus
so linkara your thoughts on marvel sudo reboot, and DC now haveing a Superman as literally as powerful as his old tag line and batman is now commissioner Gordon in an iron man suit. We have entered one of those werid ereas again where they try new ideas like superman has to deal with not only the loss of his powers but his secret Identity as well.
Man, the original Flash's origin is a bit disappointing. I know Golden Age stories are not the same as modern age ones and they'd feel less need to make it plausible (hard water, etc.) but a guy who was supposedly smart got powers by being monumentally stupid. I bet Jay never tells any of the JSA or JLA how he got his powers, it's too embarrassing! And Joan is so shallow it's hard to root for her and Jay's relationship. The other origins from the same era stand up to the test of time: the last son of Krypton, the boy who lost his parents in a senseless act of violence, the princess who lived a sheltered life until the outside world came to her, so she proved her worthiness to go to the outside world, and found it in need of saving. Meanwhile, I never knew Jay's origin until this video. Even as he gets more love in non-comic media, it's never been deemed worthy of repeating.
In the comics, Jay Garrick’s helmet was his father’s “doughboy” helmet. His dad served in World War I.

I'm thinking Ultron should get a look at since Ultimates 3's Ultron was just a disappointing excuse.
Amazing Spider-Man #14. Please. 🎃
He's already dressed this a fuck ups video and the ruminations
KidSnivy69
Ah, well, I had not seen that video, and was in part informing the audience of the matter
Jack Lovejoy Don't worry that would of been explained in about 3 or 4 weeks
Yeah, the comics would retcon that the accident did involve “heavy water” and that the exposure itself didn’t give Jay his speed powers, just activated his metagene.
You know, I'd love to see PSA Hell come up during an event like Secret Origins Month.
He wired the whole room to electrocute everyone it it? ...how? When? Why?
You'd think for an accident that provides super powers, the writers would want something that wasn't so easy to reproduce.
Anyway, you hit it right on the head. :)
Anyway, awesome review. You've earned yourself a subscriber. :)
Funny. Jay Garrick was created by Gardner Fox and also Harry Lampert. Funny, Fox also created Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Zatanna, and Sandman Wesley Dodds.
12:52 Tell that to Kyle Rayner. :P
His loved ones have 2 feet in the grave (or at least the fridge)
Ahhh My favourite Version of the Flash You should do The Original Human Torch Too!😉
Now I want to see you do the Flash of Two Worlds story....
OfficialCptTesla He already did.

HOLY SHIT YOUR EYES ARE ATTACKING ME

Because a gray trench coat is an appropriate attire for science, too.
Hey, if business suits were good enough for 1930's drug pushers to wear at all times, as the totally accurate documentary Reefer Madness taught us, then they're good enough for science work!
You should look at the origin of Jack Ryder AKA The Creeper! It'd make an awesome episode for you
And four years later, he reviewed the first TMNT comic. Ha.
Granted, it was a Patreon sponsered review and it wasn't also during Secret Origins Month. The episode premiered in January, I think. But, it's also coming to the point where the Bronze Age is turning nearly 40/50 years as old as the Silver Age of Comics was when this show stared. So, conventions of writing and content of the Bronze Age are going to start seeming laughably strange (in a different way) to readers of the 2020s.
good thing they're bringing back the jsa in prime earth
I read this comic before watching this and I liked it especially for the time..flash stories were entertaining for golden age co.ics from the ones I read
Any plans to review Flash #123 the Flash of two worlds? I know it's not bad but it's still an amazing story.
3:18 ROFL!!
After origin month is over, would you be interested in reviewing a Invincible comic? I don't think you have yet.
+Dan Smith Admittedly no, now that I think about it, but I'm still new to his videos, and at the time I didn't realize he only reviewed bad comics.
@@jadafun How funny you should mention Invincible.
Oof Linkara went back on his word when he is now doing origins of characters of the 90s.
He might have also done it because
it's also coming to the point where the Bronze Age (1970s-early 1990s) is turning nearly 40/50 years, as old as the Silver Age of Comics was when this show stared. So, conventions of writing and content of the Bronze Age are going to start seeming laughably strange (in a different way) to readers of the 2020s.
The 90s were 30 years ago
So Duriel was the first Mirror Master?
‘My name is Barry Allen and I’m the fastest man alive…..’

A scrub in sports is usually a benchwarmer, someone who is on the roster but rarely plans.
I know that this is sort of off topic, but what's your opinion on the graphic novel "Arkham Asylum: Serious House on Serious Earth"? Also, could you do an origin on Plastic Man? He's my favorite superhero that's not given enough credit.
Ten years of the first flash review
🎶My crush's love was always inexplicably linked to football🎶
so linkara your thoughts on marvel sudo reboot, and DC now haveing a Superman as literally as powerful as his old tag line and batman is now commissioner Gordon in an iron man suit. We have entered one of those werid ereas again where they try new ideas like superman has to deal with not only the loss of his powers but his secret Identity as well.
Got the date wrong Lewis, in the originally uploaded part you said it was released in November of this year
This is the flash. Maybe he came from the future
7:47 I get it
Here's an idea for you! How about making an AT4W DVD with Villain Origins?
Most of those aren't public domain
And teh few that are nobody cares about the Public domain heroes are barely known
8:14 can't she hear him
Man, the original Flash's origin is a bit disappointing.
Glad the JSA is back.
i'm diggin the new ending theme
And they did used to wear suits and ties in the lab back in the day.
I chewed some ice cubes and didn't gain super powers, I demand a refund!
will you ever do booster gold on this show
+Kevin McGinty Probably in a Secret Origins Month. There's just others he wants to cover first.
That makes sense
Kevin McGinty Probably not. Booster Gold was created in the 1980s. Secret Origins Month only looks at Golden and Silver Age comics.
He means "Will Linkara do an episode on Booster Gold. Period." He didn't say it had to be Secret Origins Month.
True as fun as he is some of the 1980s run were ....not so good
Dr williams should look for the mirrors with finger prints on them to escape the hall of mirrors.
The Flash get High! Speedy!
i woude love a specter or doctor midnite on secret
Hard water is water with a high mineral content
Ah so Secret Origins Mouth is for the golden and silver age appearances of the heroes? Ok I see.
Does the Earth-1, based on the original Earth-One, still exist in the New 52?
Yea it does. Convergence see to that
No!!!!
Wait, didn't you do the first Avengers team-up?
+Shirokurou Yes. In 2014. This episode is from 2012.
Is this the same time travel that brought Liefeld from the Golden Age?
And can it be used to send him back?
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall Yeah, I realized that when I noticed the empty background.
+Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall thanks linkara you made me interested in comic i recently bought a issue of the new ms marvel and i love it
Hard water is a thing. It's something people with long hair I know care about, but I have no idea what it actually is.
Wait duriel IS like the old mirror man ir something cus wow what a humble begining
