    I came here to see how you designed snap covers, and ended up learning everything I wish I had known about Fusion360 instead! You are by far one of the best teachers I've seen!

      Same, went "snap lids, nice" and ended up sitting glued in front of the entire thing thinking "OH, that's how you do that?"
      Knowing these functions would've saved me literal days hahaha

    That was absolutely brilliant, thank you! I learned so much from this one tutorial, more than I have learned from any other Fusion 360 tutorial. This basic enclosure will become the base for may project cases I design in the future. The use of variables for sizes has made this design so flexible.

    Wow! That was incredibly helpful! One of the reasons for it being so is that, opposed to other tutorials, you went out of your way and explained all the little fusion360 details pro-users just forgot they even adhere to but beginners struggle with. Like the constrainted line you made there, I finally understood those details I struggled so much with, when I followed other tutorials but it simply didn't work. Thank you!

    I usually hate when I Google for how to do some action in Fusion and end up at a lengthy video instead of a short description, but this video was awesome from start to finish! I came here looking for how to make a case (the shell command is not something I've used before) and ended up learning about mirroring, components, tapering, and 3D friendly snap mechanisms. When I was through I thought 'who made this awesome video' and of course it was Adafruit.
    Great stuff! Can't wait for my Trinket to arrive tomorrow so I can continue working on my enclosure. Thanks!

    Absolutely Perfect. I have to admit that I have been methodically going through Lars Christensen's Beginners Fusion 360 videos so I had some comfort with the tool but, Yes, like it has been said below, a Super good example of using parameters and having a complet box with a snapping lid. I use this all the time now to start a new project where I need a box. Just open this project and do a Save As. Thanks Again!!!

    Thanks very much for the tutorial. Excellent tips, and especially some of the shortcuts. I have one suggestion: if you start your box centered on the origin you won't need to construct a mid-point plane. I've found more than once that centering the origin can be extremely useful in these sorts of constructs.
    I loved the tip on extruding at an angle! That will undoubtedly save me lots of time in the future.

    For the first nub sketch you can actually just use the midpoint constraint along the top edge of the inside of the enclosure and the top of the rectangle. It's not super obvious but the midpoint constraint can make lines share their midpoints. The only real trick to it is that it's easier to do when the lines aren't on top of each other since fusion handles stacked lines really poorly, but that's easy to work around by just moving the rectangle before you apply the constraint (or not making it on top of the line in the first place.) It also means you don't need the initial coincident/collinear constraint.

    • @toddphelps5030
      @toddphelps5030 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a third option, I created a point where it snapped to the middle of the case line and another point where it snapped to the middle of the rectangle's top line, then picked "coincident" as a constraint.
