- Van Buren was extremely close to being completed and released, becoming the 3rd mainline Fallout game. But in the end it was canceled along with a lot of ideas for new factions.
In this video we explore those lost and forgotten factions and how they went on to influence later ones within New Vegas and the actual Fallout 3

At least the whole stealth boy situation was carried over to new Vegas but instead of the brotherhood it was the super mutants that was dealing with this issue.😺

Yeah, it makes sense for NightKin to have it cause of the strong connection to the master and constant use of stealth boys even when not in combat. Though l could see sense in bad stealth boys. It has been 200 years, things wouldn’t work properly if exposed to time
Fun fact: the gun that New Vegas' Anti-Materiel rifle is based on is called the Hecate. Just an interesting coincidence with the name of the character from Van Buren

Great video, as always. Can I suggest you take a look at Fallout-themed mod called Old World Blues for the game Hearts of Iron IV? It adds a absurd amount of factions, many of which have fantastic lore. Love your content!
I was just thinking about this mod when I clicked on this video. The mod uses lore from every fallout game released or canceled so they used lots of lore from van buren. With how well done the mod is I think he’d enjoy it lots.
That mod even uses content from obscure cancelled games almost nobody knows about like fallout extreme

Wow, I heard of Van Buren but didn't know it was going to sound so awsome. Sounds like a lot of it was copied by future Fallout games and a lot of good content was lost.

Didn't the Vipers become the Hounds of Hectate and not the Jackals ? I thought the Jackals were attempting to break into the Boulder Dome

I kinda wish interplay only did fallout not other games if they did they wouldn’t have gone bankrupt and van buren would have come out but I hope modders or other designers would bring this game back, I find the main plot interesting but I hope it has no time limit to end the game like the original fallout to find the water chip. Thanks for making this video and keep up the good work
From what I understand, it's more mismanagement, than the games developed (and published). The folks running the company did a poor job. Mismanaged projects, which created delays, which made budget issues, which led to money borrowing, which led to other companies trying to have their say... it's all one big mess. While they were trying to put out fires, more were popping up, like the various legal issues, which spanned years.
It's those other games that helped Interplay stay afloat. The success of Baldur's Gate alone probably delayed the bankruptcy by a couple years

i am a bit saddened that F76 didn't introduce at the time the largest raider group known the viper gang who killed a Maxon using mutated toxins. Their need for tech an revenge on the continent spanning raiders is what fueled the brotherhood to march west. new Vegas has the only in game representation as a small remaining group huddled at a hole in the wall near the train tracks leading out of Nipton (they got some "traps" set up as traffic cones with land mines under them)
A: The vipers are only west coast, they originate in vault 15, it makes no sense for them to be in west Virginia.
B: Those viper ambushers aren't the only vipers in fallout new vegas.
C: the brotherhood of steel was not "forced west by the vipers." The brotherhood of steel started in mariposa military base, which is in central california. They marched south and populated lost hills bunker. Then Roger maxson died, several years later maxson II his son, led an expedition against the vipers where he was killed.
@@mappingshaman5280 ah I was pretty sure they killed an early maxon (like the 3rd or something making it a mid west / east kill ) but could be wrong been retcons an abandoned lore.
@@TobiIsAGoodBoy1 There was no mid west or east coast BOS at that time, except for the fallout 76 BOS which has nothing to do with the west coast BOS and is really just bethesda copy pasting their marketable assets. The entire BOS was in california, specifically lost hills, right next to the hub. If you play fallout 1 or even new vegas you'd understand it all.
I still wish to see someone give something of a complete van buren, I know it would not be the same, but something to enjoy.

Theirs a mod for Hoi4 called Old World Blues that’s pretty much a Fallout mod for the game.
The mod has all of these factions located in northern Arizona/Colorado. I had no idea they were inspired from Van Buren

It's kind of mind blowing to me how incredibly well games from 07/08 have aged visually and mechanically. Fallout 3 looks graphically about 1/2 as good as fo4 and has nearly identical controls. Dark souls, dead space, Oblivion (especially if you bought that prem-o horse armor!) *Chef kisses* seriously, gaming on the Xbox 360 and (sorta) PS3 machines was a brand new, mine boggling chapter of gaming history, and the most amazing part of that generation was the fact that somehow, graphics continued to get better and better until 2014/15 when late gen, and cross gen games could somehow still keep pace in basically all aspects with Xbox one and PS4 games. That whole generation from 05 to 2015 was the most important generation for gaming since the switch from NES to SNES and Genesis. I worry regularly that we'll never experience another pivotal era in gaming ever again, because now we have literally CGI quality gameplay and really, how much further and quickly can games realistically go from here? I think we're in a kind of scary plateau with hardware and software capabilities, giving us less and less noticeable returns graphically and exciting new kinds of code/game mechanics, and it'll take something like the fabled singularity event. I kind of with I could go back to 2003 and watch the exploring of Xbox to Xbox 360 all over again with the benefit of hindsight.

I wonder if the Chinese armour has the same side-effects as the StealthBoy. I honestly wish we got to see another region, that's not the US, and see how that country tried to deal with the Fallout. Would Vault-Tec branch out into Europe? What if there was a British version of the Enclave (that were Royalists)? What if there was a faction that had children leaders, because they needed a very short person, to play the role of Napoleon? What is the Communistic Vault-Tec variant, in China? There is so much untapped potential in the Fallout IP, I wish we got to see more of it... Just not by Bethesda.
It was mentioned that the Chinese had mastered stealth technology to the point they successfully parked entire submarines along the immediate vicinity the coasts such as the submarine crew that founded the Shi in San Francisco's Chinatown and Captain Zhao's submarine along Boston. If sub crews were expected to stay cloaked for anywhere from several weeks to several years ,the Chinese would have to make sure the stealth technology did not affect the user's mental state. The fact Zhao was able to maintain sanity for 2 centuries in one of these subs meant that their stealth tech did not suffer from the same side effects that the American stealth boys technology did.
@@theoneandonlydetraebean8286 Sure, but there is one difference. A sub is a vehicle. It can fit much larger tech, and with far better shielding. Contrast that to the Stealth Suits. They're portable, maneuverable, light, and last a long time.

Daughters if Hecate are a great idea. Could be carried over into a future fallout. Make her someone who was conquered by the legion and made some high priestess due to being naturally skilled as a midwife but she betrayed Caesar and escaped and then started doing what she does with the tribes to build her own army and that’s the reason why Caesar’s legion has such a low opinion of women.
This sounds like a better game than any of the Bethesda games (new vegas is not a Bethesda game)
