- Different sides of the same coin
The Citroen C3 Aircross and Hyundai Bayon may look fairly different, but they actually have quite a lot of similarities. They're both supermini-sized SUVs, they both deliver their own take on what their makers consider to be funky styling, and they're both aimed at the more affordable end of this hugely popular and ever-growing market sector. And, while the Hyundai is brand new, the Citroen has recently been facelifted to keep it competitive. So, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the two cars, and more importantly, which one is best?
In this CarGurus UK video review, Rebecca Jackson gets to know both cars, assessing them on space, practicality, quality, technology, affordability and what they're like to drive.

Hyundai Bayon. I have on. Great car, Great driving, Great tech. I test drive Citroen, but Hyundai is miles better car.
Hyundai missed a trick on not having a higher drivers seat! This car meant to replace IX20 model.
@@TheMisterB2u you can change position
Definitely the Bayon. Looks like a awesome little car. Plus that warranty is fantastic.
I have tried both and the bayon seems quite correct, but I liked the c3 aircross better in all aspects. c3 seemed more car in performance and more enjoyable. also both are good.
Surprised that a company with the long history and experience of Citroen cannot get ride and handling of its modern cars right!
Peugeot won't let them spend the money anymore! All they change are badges and trim 😪
@@alexandermoore2982 peugeot has no say, it is the parent company that does that
@@vuilbaardgames3280 considering their former company was called PSA, as in Peugeot Société Anonyme, I'd say it's pretty clear who owned who
@@vuilbaardgames3280 🤦
I've just ordered the premium Bayon on motability apparently there's a 6 mths but I believe worth the wait. If you want an interior pop of colour then you can change the ambient lightning in the Bayon.
Still banging on about "hard, scratchy plastics...". As long as the thing feels solid and the build quality is good - who cares ? What cars at this price tag don't have uniform plastic across the interior front ?
I don't understend that thing about scratchy plastics. I have Hyundai Bayon and the build quality is amazing.
You don't drive feeling to plastics as you travel along,so does it matter!Bit like door pockets won't fit 2L bottle of water, who carries it anyway.See reviews, but buy a car on what matters to you!
I fully agree. You're not making love to the thing. Who gets into their car and starts touching and caressing the dashboard? Also, give me the Bayon any day!
As someone that used to valet new Hyundai's I used to think that they felt a little cheap and basic inside, even though they are not cheap, but the new tuscon is a different story
Boy oh boy, you really tried hard to give the nod to Citroen here, didn't you? :) Sorry to throw the one argument being employed repeatedly against the Hyundai here out the window, but there is a bi-color interior option available for the Bayon. There you go - no more dour feelings - enjoy the way-more-modern Korean option. ;)
If buying a citeron c3 make sure is a rip curl edition with grip control there top end ?
Forgot to mention Citroen has a high seat position and Hyundai a normal one!
Hyundai Bayon for sure. 100%
Citroen all day.
I was wondering could you do a group test of the Toyota Yaris Cross against rivals like the Ford Puma and Nissan Juke.
Toyota is never involved in group tests, it’s not fair that Toyota is always out of these group tests.
As Clarkson already proved in his very thorough and practical test, the Aircross can go faster than itself, can tow Boaty Mcboatface, fit a horse in its boot, seat all of Angelina Jolies children, better than the French police and can conquer Italy. So, it's clearly the better car here, in fact the best car in the world;
I’d definitely choose the Citroën as it’s one of the most stylish cars in the class!
Totally agree. And I have done so 👍 The C3 Aircross just looks fantastic.
Links to buy?
We just bought Hyundai Bayon this past week after our prevous car Opel Meriva 2004 (Vaxhaul in the UK) suddenly broke down. Both of these cars look great, but Bayon is smaller and it will barely squeeze into our garage, so C3 Aircorss wouldn't fit. These days it's hard to find a relatively small car that allows high sitting position.
Juke
I'd be inclined to go for the Hyundai. I expected Rebecca to report a better ride in the Citroen, the main reason I'd buy one.
I pick Hyundai Bayon up!☺️
It's my first car and i ordered trend line 120HP 4 days ago☺️.
At first sight just the design of Bayon attacked me, then beautiful interior and infotainment and Hyundai Safety.
What about the Hyundai's different driving modes which alter the overall feel and handling? I don't understand why this was neglected in the video. It makes me wonder what you omit from your other videos
i would choose new puma great test drive review
Glad you enjoyed it. We have a puma review coming soon!
You mention the T Roc as a rival. Surely it's the T Cross in this class?
Between the pair, The Hyundai Bayon wins for me, it's better to drive and has better entertainment system, it looks better than the Hyundai Venue too in my opinion, however if I had to pick a small SUV the Ford Puma makes more sense for me.
Not in the same price tho
the puma is absolute shit when it comes to interior quality, everything rattles like all hell, but that is american quality for ya
Looks like the german manufacturers are still paying for this channel.
We don't have the Bayon in Australia, however, it seems similar to what we call a Kona. The lower riding position makes it indistinguishable from a hatchback. I prefer their Venue.
But we get the Kona here too, the Bayon is just a little bit smaller and cheaper
@@albertpierik2242 Ever slightly smaller and lower - mostly in terms of driving position - than a Kona, but with a bigger boot.
Pity Venue isn't here in UK !
I heard the Bayon is named after a region in France and is designed with Europe in mind. The Kona next gen will have higher spec.
Venue is unpopular in Korea, the sister car Bayon is much more handsome, too shame, not available in Korea
Based on style I would go for the C3.
It's illegal to use a mobile phone whilst driving yet O.K to use touch screens whilst driving?
I would prefer dials for radio and heater plus a C.D player
Subscriber from India - C3 is better option
Hello from the UK!
I have gone for the Bayon
Another quality presentation. Thank you.
Hyundai Bayon wins hands down.
Citroens design dates super fast
thanx for review Rebecca
Something else altogether
So the Citroen is taller but has less headroom, plus it's competitors have better ride and seat comfort? Citroen really have dropped the ball if that's the case. Can't say I would buy either of these though, although forced to choose it would be the Hyundai, much better warranty for a start I believe.
bro I keep watching these reviews and they make no sense. I'm 6"3 and theres plenty of headroom and that's why I just bough c3 Aircross.
I'll just get a fiesta, Instead 🎊🎉🕺🏽
I just bend my legs and use a normal car which is also way cheaper to buy.
Bayon all day long!
No thanks Rebecca I'll stick to my Ford, as it has toys neither of these cars have even thought of offering even a basic driver.
I don't like any but I would get the Citröen, have one for 13 years and has served me well, have tried the C5 Aircross and enjoyed it a lot and the bayon... Well, sorry to say but that back looks wrong.
No comparison. If you value your money and don't want repairs, go for the Hyundai, I've has 7 and just ordered a Bayon. Warranty is top class too.
C3 for me
Citroen looks like a 3 seater setee
The c3 has a terrible clutch and gearbox that is incredibly vague and downright unpleasant. Love Kia/Hyundai’s new styling efferts across the range as the old one were ripping off Ford bigtime
About Design, just BMW can rival with Hyundai.
Not VW, Nissan, Citroen....
J'ai une Hyundai Bayon 1.0l t-gdi mhev 7DCT sky. Il y a quelques jours une Citroën C3 Aircross a essayé de me doubler sur une autoroute... en vain, elle n'est jamais parvenu.
Then don't speed up when someone wants to overtake you.
I find neither car attractive, but Rebecca on the other hand, looking even more gorgeous than usual.😍
Sorry, Hyundai, but Rebecca would be my top choice. I expect to see the second choice Bayon on the other side of the pond as the 2023 Kona. Renault was tossed out of the states 50 years ago, due to horrible reliability. Their alliance with Nissan and Mitsubishi has done nothing for either one here. In the long term, you cousins would be much better off spending a few euros or pounds extra each month on the Bayon.👍
classic
Don't like either. I'd go for something from the VW group.
Please, Citroen C3 beats this Hyundai all the way... And do not compare these cars to much more expensive ones for example VW T-Rock...
Rebecca love
The bayon...it has the touchscreen and digital cluster yet a old style handbreak :/
I ordered mine because of manual handbrake, it still has lane assist warning, hill start, rear reverse camera etc
If I was buying new, I think it would be the Citroen. If I was buying one of these at three years old, think it would be the Kia :-)
The Bayon is missing something with that dash 😴
Wow, VW always win, even if not on test? 🙃
a Ford Puma!
Citroen C3 Cross for SURE. Higher driving position and more practical usage of space as an advantage .
Hyundai 7 years warranty is bull shit .
How about that them 7 ? 🤔
so for you garbage wins over quality, cause of looks? or what is the angle here?
@@vuilbaardgames3280 So Hyundai is also carbage . Between both "Garbage " as deemed by you, C3 ticks more as deal breaker .
@@j.v.f.8736 Anybody who own Hyundai should know better what is 7 . Not everything is covered under 7.
Ruby 🌹 my labradoodle ❣️
Can’t understand why these car reviews do not mention how they drive at night and what the lights are like. For example the Citroen has LED headlights and the Hyundai Halogen and if anything like my Hyundai Kona dipped headlights they will awful.
Some of the Bayons have LED headlights .
I have Bayon with Bi-LED lights. They are amazing!
The entry spec of the Bayon have halogen headlights rear and daytime running lights are LED, all light for midrange up the lights are all LED.
Citroen still using 1.2 puretech engine which is a horribly unreliable engine.
Bayon is nothing but a raised up i20 hatchback
True - but is that a bad thing?
You don't say
I have entered both. I am a guy of small height as well as my wife and the i20 still felt crammed and short in height.
When we entered the Bayon I personally had the feeling of a much larger car.
When I sat on the rear passenger seats, I thought I was on a bus.
It's a deceptively small car with huge interior
Hyundai to me no contest. However these small SUV's are impractical cars, space inside is a joke. You'll be more comfortable in a Honda Jazz or Nissan Note.
Bit of a sweeping statement there. Im 6'2 and drove an old Corsa for 6 years. Had no problems at all with space or practicality. It all depends on the person.
Just watching and listening to Rebbeca. No care for these cars
Is it me or do crossovers just get more and more ugly, I wouldn't want to look at either of them on my driveway
how about having the guts to tell us what you saw on the MPG gauge rather than quoting the BS in the brochure?
Littary worse then the 208 which looks way way more modern
VW T Cross shits on these lol
what a poor review from the start, trying so hard to make the c3 look as being the better option, but you cant find any angle but how the seats look, quite pathetic
I have an i20 for two months and I am changing it for a Polo. Worst car I've ever driven. Noisy engine, awful handling and weak brakes.
The Bayon is boring.
C3 is horrid and why on earth have a touch screen that low down its stupid
Porqué ha de ser tan alta? Sobresaliendo??
Mucho más bonita integrada. De hecho no es nada incómoda.
Thanks
