    Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there. Thanks for joining us this week. Hope you enjoy!

    I have had a metal detector, beginner to mid grade since 1971 and the reason It's still enjoyable to me is It's just a hobby without expectations that pays enough over free time to cover the cost of the equipment. When I've lived in areas where building began in the 1950's I knew the best I could hope for was from Franklin, Kennedy and roosevelt silver to moderns. When I finally lived in areas that began in the 1700s I did my research in the library so I could find better stuff and it is still possible to make a find in a single day to pay for equipment.

    I had mixed thoughts when I started using my xtp but now after using it for a month I'm really liking it. When coin shooting I found that Park one in 10 kilohertz is absolutely the best mode and that after doing some testing it's actually slightly deeper than field mode. Beach is a different story as it's park 2 all the way for its gold sensitivity. Good review.

      Thank you. I'll have to give Park 1 a run as well.

    Love the video, well explained.
    I've owned one for a little over a month now and Dan say it's worth every penny (or cent for us people 😜 )
    I've used it in 2 countries and a few locations, after 3/4 times on a location (about a days worth of detecting) you'll get used to the local signals.
    Eg one place has ww1 bullet casings and coins plus junk
    Another has given me coins, lead and junk.
    I will say the vdi (target ID) can be a little jumpy but it's usable, I dig out anything that jumps at most 15 up and down from the main number because it can be mixed metals but usually junk. Usually it's fairly well behaved tho

    • @digginghistory76
      @digginghistory76  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with the VDI being a bit jumpy. I go by the 7s rule. Anything that jumps more that 7 above it below the mid line is probably junk. I still dig it anyways because you never know.

    honestly when this machine came out while we already have the Nox available i thought to myself "ha another Entry Level", I said what can this machine do to out perform the high end machines...fast forward today, over a week ago we got lucky to have been gifted an XterraPro during MD Rally, so out of curiosity i tested it on my test garden and my jaw just drop when out of the box it hits my 12" silver where my Nox900 struggles ( i know user error ) XterraPro is keeping up with my Deus2/Nox900 in depth and recovery! a machine that is under 300 bucks! keepin up with the big boys. yes it does not have headphones out of the box but its PERFORMANCE is where everyone should consider and not the lack of accessories...the machine itself is well build not a cheapo plastic.
    I will never call this a second rate Backup machine....if i were to chose between the nox series and the Xterra based on my hunting ground i would have pick the Xterra - a cheap but very versatile machine.

    • @digginghistory76
      @digginghistory76  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's definitely a beast. I found my biggest bucket list item with the Xterra Pro at a place I have pounded in the past with my Nox 800. The first time my daughter used it she found her first silver, Spanish Reale, at a place I had yet to find silver. It's a go to in my arsenal and one I always recommend to anyone looking to step into the hobby but doesn't want to spend Nox money.

      Hi. Depth will depend on soil conditions and the size of target. Also will depend on your swing speed and how far from the surface you swing the coil.

    So not sure about the xterra pro over the vanquish 540 hard decision any help would be cool

    • @digginghistory76
      @digginghistory76  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Both are quality detectors with great features. The Xterra offers the ability to be fully submersible. It also has the flexibility to use Coiltek coils designed for the Equinox series. If you have flexibility in your budget I would also recommend looking into the Equinox 600. It's the bigger brother to the X-Terra. Our friends at West Shore Hobbies offer great package deals on all these detectors.

  • @johnp.2276
    @johnp.2276 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    So is the xterra pro better than the vanquish 540

    • @digginghistory76
      @digginghistory76  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To be fair, I've never used the Vanquish before. I normally swing the Equinox 800 and the Xterra has been a very solid backup to have in my arsenal. It is fully submersible which is really nice for water hunting in the summer. It also has the ability to run all the extra coils (Coiltek) that I have for the Equinox.

    Just subscribed to your channel. Please do the same as we all learn from each other :)
    I too have an X-Terra Pro and I find twice as many coins now that I have lowered the sensitivity. Use to run as much as possible 23 -25 max, but now run around 17 and dig up twice the amount of coins... especially nickels! Have you tried hitting a trashy area but at lower sensitivity? I picked up "50 coins" yesterday by doing this at our local trashy park in areas I've searched already. Tot lot scored 15 deep coins even at 17 sensitivity, VDI much improved too 😅

    All this entry level backup crap is getting on my nerves...This is not a entry level machine ...Price point perhaps but performance no .

    • @carolrice2063
      @carolrice2063 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And the first Minelab I have ever owned and I have my sensitivity down to 12 and I still hitting Targets that are 4- 5 inches deep and dry ground and I will be going back once the rain comes and will bump up the sensitivity and maybe 🤔 it's not necessary to be anything higher but when I was at 25 and Or 20 jumpy VDI is a problem but is pretty stable with the lower sensitivity and still finding good target's and I Coin Shoot and it Hits solid and anything else is junk and a warbly target Tone's

    • @digginghistory76
      @digginghistory76  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@carolrice2063I have noticed the jumpy VDI when the sensitivity is above 20. I usually run it maxed out and find that good targets are within 2-3 between high and low VDI. Anything more than 7 is always junk.

    • @carolrice2063
      @carolrice2063 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@digginghistory76 and the only thing that I don't like, is that headphones 🎧 are not being sold with the X-Terra Pro and in A public place you get ALOT of people that will claim almost instantly every target that you have found and as soon as I can find enough money to get a ML -85 🎧 and I think that's the numbers, but really needs to be sold with the X-Terra Pro and I don't Dig everything and I really watch the numbers and the Tone's and only A Coin Shooter but I still find Jewelry but this is a totally different Detector than the Simplex + and it's EMI Problem's but the numbers are close and the Tone's are not so high pitched like the Simplex is and annoying and will actually give you some tremendous Headache's and I have unsubscribed from some of the Simplex User's and I was watching everything that was about the Simplex and the Simplex tester's have lied enough about the Simplex and I bought it and I should of just waited and bought a New Minelab No Matter what Model..... they are selling......

    • @carolrice2063
      @carolrice2063 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I have also noticed that if it will not lock on a number and be able to give you some consistent results ( 1 Or 2 ) numbers and Everytime else it's a JUNK Target and it's ALOT Better Technology than the Simplex + and I NOW can understand why the jumpy VDI and actually it's not a problem and no questions when you get a Coin Tone and Even the bottle caps will not lock in and make it sound good but I'm very new to this X-Terra Pro and right now I'm digging everything that beeps but I'm quickly learning what I'm looking for 👍.....

    • @SteveMiller-yw7kv
      @SteveMiller-yw7kv ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree! I think because of the cheaper price, people are immediately leery and assume that it some how an entry level because of that.. I've had the the Xterra 705 for years and in no way can you describe the Xtp as an entry level machine.. for anyone interested, go and watch the comparison video of the Garrett At pro vs the Xtp on deep coins and you will see..

      When I first started in this hobby I had the Simplex, I upgraded to the Equinox 800 - which is what I typically use all the time. I bought the Xterra Pro as a second machine and have found more things with it than I did the Simplex, even going over sites I pounded with the Simplex. I even pulled my top bucket list item with the Xterra Pro at a site I have been detecting like crazy for over 5 years. I also like the fact that I can swap out the coils with Coiltek coils (10x5 and 15") that I already own for my Equinox. Cost plays a lot into it as well. The Xterra Pro is under $300 here in the US and makes sense for anyone looking for a machine that packs a punch but doesn't empty your wallet. Only downside is for that prince it does not come with headphones, which I like using. I just plug my headset from my Equinox into them and away I go. I don't mess with the settings at all, I run in Field 2 with all metal mode turned on.
