Yes Eddie Van Halen did the solo for Beat It
And, he did it for free.
Over the phone he recorded it in one shot
And, he did not want anyone to know. But the first time I heard it when Beat It came out, I knew it was him. A huge VH fan since late 70s.
Amen EVH Forever ✌️💛🤘
Ed actally rearranged the whole track and M.J loved it.
One of Alex Van Halen’s best songs. So much jazz and swing. Unreal
Van Halen was a once in a lifetime band, they were beyond wholly shit amazing!!
Van Halen is the greatest American hard rock group of all time . Period
PERIOD
PERIOD!!! *Fist bump*
100%
Big Van Halen fan, this is my favorite song from them. Every song on this album is a banger.
...probably my favorite too, but every song off of the first 6 are classic...except "Jump"
I listen to VH daily, it’s greatness.
...this is one of my favorite b sides
Love ur reactions to van halen..
Roth cemented his legend long ago. Doesn't matter how old he is now, he's forever the man. The James Brown of rock. Swing and cool for days. Old school VH 4 life. What a band!
I couldn’t agree with you more! Best band ever. They are legends. No one, will ever be like Eddie, and Diamond Dave, will always be the front man in my mind for Van Halen. You just couldn’t beat him. When he left that band changed. I wasn’t as interested in it as I was with Dave.
It’s so sad to see our favorite musicians leave us. It seems like I’m watching everybody I grew up with die. It’s so heartbreaking. The end of an era, when Eddie left us.
@@pennysilvey8868 VH yanked the dimming torch from Zepp and drenched it with a gallon of gasoline and bottles of whiskey. And while Zeppelin may have created more songs that showed a wider array of influences (latin, middle eastern, folk, psychedelic as well as blues, etc.) classic VH songs were just much more alive and exciting. They made a lot of Zep songs, however interesting, sound tired. No other in rock like Dave, no other in rock like Ed. Yeah, sucks that the best of things have to come to an end. But I'm glad I have the albums to crank on a good system, reaction vids from kids discovering these songs only now, and Dave still popping in here and there to share his brain (and lovable goofiness).
😮Not only did Eddie play on Beat It, he did if for free. Dave is an awesome storyteller, his Eat em and Smile solo album is one of a kind.
Yes, Eddie did the SOLO for Beat It. But not the rest of the song.
STEVE LUKETHER FROM TOTO DID ALL THE RYTHYM GUITAR
Here we go!!❤
Finally somebody does this song. Thank you I subscribe because of you reacting to this song. By far the best Van Halen album.
Yes this solo definitely inspired the BEAT IT SOLO...YOU CAN HEAR IT
Another great video - Van Halen was a genius band - glad you agree! LOL take care keep up the great work on this channel!
Eddie's solos had a lot of similar patterns and he would mix and match them to create new and innovative jams. Obviously he would sprinkle in new wrinkles to blow your mind too. His sound was unmistakable.
Dave be scattin'
Love how you're doing a deep dive for this album.
great great analysis of DLR's lyric delivery💯💯
dude. GREAT ear for Ed's style on Beat It!!!!
You should check out the original walk this way from 1975 to hear rapping/ poetry delivery from a rock song
This is why when they reunited in 08 I went to see them and it was magic Roth still hade the voice on the second tour in 12 it had faded some, that is now gone forever.
This song shreds Listen to it weekly. Never gets old
This is probably in the top 5 most insanely difficult songs that these guys ever did. Crazy time signatures and Dave mastering it
EVH was a master of finger picking .
Check out Van Halens 1st album song Atomic Punk.
My favorite VH album by far. The heaviest rocking VH album imo. Dark themed lyrics and EVH going crazy doing his thing. They kind of took a turn away from the 'hey let's party!' rock here. Unfortunately, I read a recent interview, and it was said this was recorded when the band was starting to fall apart for various reasons. VH is on my playlist constantly. RIP EVH - gone but never forgotten.
That's because it's the best Van Halen album ever.
Eddie played this solo in one take, live (no overdub) !!!! Your analysis is spot on and informed. Thank you
That solo is insane!..one of his most frenetic
🤘😝🤘
4:06, “sounds like the solo in Beat It by MJ” 🤔 Now you should react to Beat It knowing EDDIE slayed that solo and rearranged the song so it would fit😉👊
Good ear man! Eddie Van Halen does play the guitar solo in Beat It.
Dave's never been known for being at a loss for words.
Diamond Dave's the Man!
It's swing ! Dave loves swing music , a lot of their early stuff is like that
Dude, you have no clue how much you hit the nail on the head with the mj comparison-Eddie Van Halen was on guitar
I agree with you the VH songs are short ,but it keeps you listening to thier songs often !!!!!
First time I heard Beat it on radio I knew Eddie was there!
Eddie not only did the Beat it solo but he also rearranged the song.. next song off of fair warning.... Hear about it later, push comes to shove... So this is love... The whole album smokes...
He’s a blues shouter.
What a Fantastic Group. ❤ Thank You for sharing 😎☮️
Good song
Eddie Van halen played the solo on "Beat It".
The next song on this album… hear about it later, is definitely one of their best and I guarantee it’s gonna blow your mind. I’ll be tuning in for your reactions tomorrow for sure.
Eddie rearranged beat it for Michael Jackson and recorded the lead on guitar. Michael loved it! Michael told Eddie I love that high fast stuff you do on guitar! 😂
100% that's how we ended up with the iconic lead guitar track so familiar to us now.
Ed and Alex's father was a professional jazz musician. They were raised with music.
Eddie Van Halen played the lead guitar on "Beat It"
Diamond Dave + Edward and Al VH + Mike Anthony= MAGIC!!! The Mighty Van Halen.
If you haven’t already check out Van Halen song, everybody want some from album “Women and children first “. check it out I think you’ll like it
I told you this song jammed LOL
Known as the 'guitar album'. My favorite from the Dave years.
Old VH is under appreciated
EVH is the most exciting and expressive guitar hero EVER.
Mugnify gets it.
I love how they are using that jump beat from a Penticostal church.
Oooh. the next two songs are sweet!
One of the most awesomely disjointed solos of all damn time😂😂
And even though he did the lead unbeated he did it for free
My daily dose of Van Halen. I love it. Look forward to seeing your reaction to Hear About It Later and So This Is Love. And yes, the guitar solo on Beat It was done by Eddie. There is a video out that shows Eddie joining Michael Jackson on stage and doing it live
I really enjoyed this! Gave me new appreciation for this awesome song. Reminds me of how good “Fair Warning” is
Love that you're getting it man. Sinners swing is great example of the pure EVH groove and why he's also revered as a genius of rhythm guitar. Getting into the 'pocket' of this tune as a guitar player is extremely difficult....DLR was wise to put 'swing' in the title oh man!!
Nobody made better rock n roll 1978 - 1984 than Van Halen.
Great reaction. I will subscribe
And he ad libbed that solo
Yes Eddie Van Hayden was the lead on beat it
Yes Edward Van Halen played Beat it. He wrote the solo in 15 minutes for Michael Jackson for FREE! DID a favor for Quincy Jones
Eddie Van Halen DID play guitar on Beat It by Michael Jackson
Beat it solo....Oh HE DID DO THAT LOL
Actually Eddie Van Halen DID play the solo on Michael Jackson's "Beat It".
The whole album rocks just keep playing one song after another
He did the solo and the arrangement
Roth figures out this amazing time signature.
Yes Ed did beat it and he rearranged the song. Video online Eddie playing the solo during Jackson victory tour
that's intuitive of you to connect Eddie's style to the beat it solo.. yes, EVH famously played the solo on Mike's song too.
Great reactions and I enjoy your interpretations of the lyrics. I also like the fact that you notice each song intro is different, never the same old same old from Edward. Creativity at its finest for sure.
Hear About It Later is going to be a good one, but I can't wait for you to react to So This Is Love?... It's a fantastic bluesy shuffle, great lyrics, great bass, great drums, and one of the coolest leads Ed ever played. A departure from his typical style, it's like Ed playing "What If..." and had Allen Holdsworth doing a ZZ Top blues solo. It's a work of art!
Such a really really good VH album to review and might be the best one. Women and Children First is another really good VH album
eddie did do the beat guitar solo
Hear About It Later is next. It has a really good intro.
That almost show tunes "Get out and push" Diddy. That's so Roth.
Yup. You’re gonna love the next couple songs. I grew up on Van Halen. Fair warning was their darkest album because Eddie was in a dark place at that time. You can hear it in the tracks. After Van Halen one, it’s my favorite album.
You should do ‘So This Is Love?’ next…great bluesy song with a great guitar solo!
Love your reaction to the Mighty VH. Next track is hear about it later. One of my fav's
Love the attitude of the song
Watch 1981 Oakland live for “hear about it later”, will give you a great vibe of them live, you won’t be disappointed . Love your reactions 👍✌️
Very happy you found Van Halen ❤️ you should check out unchained live in Oakland Id love to see you critique that with the fire gong 🔥
Yo you gotta do. So This is Love
and then Hear about it Later.
Go with Push Comes To Shove. :)
Yes Eddie played beat it and reorganized the song
You have a very good ear for music. I’m impressed how you can understand and can like put yourself into the person writing it. That is very impressive to me. I can’t do that, and I don’t think most people can. I would bet you can write songs. Do you sing in a band? If you do tell us about your music and your background please. Great response here, I’ve listened to this album so so many times and I feel like I’m just now understanding the music because of your breakdown. 👍
I used to drive my late parents nuts with this jam. My mother threatened to shove dis soap down my throat if I didn't clean up my mouth. Though, it was DLR cussing on the cut. She didn't care ( RIP - Mom. I still love you. And. Miss you. Chasing me down with that nasty dish soap ). Musically, EVH and gang were spot on. Even DLR was in the pocket with his intensely vocal delivery that is truly the tightest of his entire career. Even with the later VH releases after Sammy.
In all fairness... there's not a bad cut on this album. Dripping with the rawest talent that is all but MIA in today's AI. Soul less gutter trash.
Mugs, I want to thank you for the respectful. Hall of Fame treatment. That this severely underrated effort rightly deserves. IMO...Fair Warning ECLIPSES ALL OTHER VH ALBUMS. PAST AND PRESENT.
And...This was in 1981!!!
Historically timeless. Indeed😊
You nailed it. Eddie played the solo for beat it and Steve Lukather from Toto did the rest.
You should listen to Eddie's Van Halens, son, Wolfgang. His band Mammoth Wolfgang Van Halen, has Eddie's gear but a whole different sound, he records all his music by himself. Mammoth is the original band name before taking family name. His distance video song is about Eddie backnin 1990s until his death a reflection.
Eddie did the Beat It solo...
You gotta do some dio anything and everything from the holy diver album
Awesome! Thanks ❤ 2:32 Much Love!
EVH played the beat it solo!
I grew up on Van Halen. The outro to Drop Dead Legs is my favorite. Just sends an electric shock up & down my spine. 5150 is my favorite entire song, both lyrically & musically. I don't like the songs with devil or hell either.

Hear about it Later
You need to listen to their debut album, "Van Halen" (aka "Van Halen 1" ) sir. 🤘
VH 2!!!!!
I get uncomfortable when Hell is mentioned too. Regardless, THIS was my favorite band when I was in my teens and early 20’s. I saw them once during the “Diamond Dave” era, and twice with Sammy. I never got into the Sammy era Van Halen, like I did the Dave era Van Halen. Their sound completely changed when Sammy came into the band. I liked them, but I didn’t love them like I did with Dave. I even stopped buying their albums! Which shocks me, even now! They went to a more commercial, radio friendly sound with Sammy. They were just hard-core rock ‘n’ roll when Dave was in there. It was a much better era of Van Halen. IMHO. I have all five of their albums, and I can’t think of one bad song on any of them. It just doesn’t exist. It’s one band you can put an album on from the beginning and play the whole thing front to back, and the entire room enjoys it. Everybody loves Van Halen! Especially when Dave was the front man. I had the privilege of watching Eddie perform Eruption. When I saw him doing it, he had one of those big giant combs in his back pocket, and he pulled it out and brushed his hair with one hand, while he was doing the fingering on the neck of the guitar with the other. I thought that was so cool when I was a kid! Lol, Eddie impressed me more than any guitarist ever. Van Halen just had a unique sound that no other band had. The harmonies are what got me. Not many rock ‘n’ roll bands did that back then. Not to mention Eddie’s guitar licks! Wow! I just wished I could have seen them with David Lee Roth at least one more time! I got to see the 1984 tour, and shortly after that, Dave left the band. I was heartbroken. Still, ONE of the best bands ever to exist.
The reason you are keying on David's flow is because he is drawing it from the same well the rappers did; From jazz and R&B. Dave was just applying it to hard rock.
What does get out and push mean? Haha!
Roth is one smart dude…there is no moon and June in his lyrics…
HELL YEAH, MUGS!!! Two days in a row? Hope you keep the pace up bc now you got me hooked. Probably my fav VH album - it's a tough choice, though. Peace
