Fair Warning is just PEAK Van Halen. It’s raunchy, sleazy, dark, funky goodness!
This is most Van Halen fans’ favorite album. It’s just delicious…
Fans of VH that are serious musicians typically swoon over this album. Masterpiece.
@@jamesmick8653 I was 8 when VH1 came out, so that will forever hold the top spot. But this is a close second, and it only gets better over time. So cool to see someone hearing it for the first time, too.
Scrumptious!!
Nailed it perfectly @indy!
The VH masterpiece
Michael Anthony's bass is phenomenal!!! What a great musician
Yep he played exactly what Ed told him to
Love this song. Love the whole album man there’s not a bad song on it. This album should’ve went no1 back then. Nothing was on fire like this. Rock on dude, play the whole album!
Basically those 6 albums with Dave don't have a bad song. At least to me.
@@rothed16 damn right brother
AMEN!
Different charting system back then - now it’s purely sales
@@dalisman how did the chart back then. I was a teenager then, but I never looked into how the charts work. I assumed it was sales.
This song has such a groove. What a brilliant piece of music!
Allota times, songs they don't play on the radio are the best songs.
Hell yeah
Point and case!
Like Girl Gone Bad and House of Pain from VH!!
@@mattharvey968 I know that I'm The One from first effort is so badass and you never hear that either.
Finding your own gems❤️
My favorite album. Crunchy and dark. Eddie at his creative best. Hear About It Later is one of my favorites. Very underrated song. So This Is Love is also a great song.
Hear about it later AND light up the sky are my 2 favorites from VH
that's one of the several differences between Eddie and superfast guitar players. Many of them can't write riffs and melodies and put them together like this.
Found your channel tonight and binge watched, man as an OG Van Halen tragic I get such a kick outta seeing people discover the VH magic for the first time and appreciate it!!! ❤👍
This is the hidden gem of the album. Love it.
I'm a guitarist and hard-core Eddie Van Halen devotee. How you reacted to listening to this for the first time is how I still react to it after 43 years. Fair Warning is a masterpiece, and my go-to Van Halen album.
Eddie Van Halen's delivery was simultaneously somehow the meanest, most aggressive, funkiest, and the groovin'-est of any rock guitarist ever. He is alone in those aspects.
The guitar work (among all other aspects of the tecording) in Hear About It Later make it my favorite Van Halen song. It's beautiful and unreal.
Check it out.
Disciples of Ed😊. VH4EVER
The song "Push Comes To Shove" on this same album is definitely a vibe. Actually pretty different than anything they've done. Funky rhythm clean guitar tone.
Best strip club song of all time !!!!
If were a) a female, b) 30 years younger, c) and a stripper... THIS would be my signature song.
@@ClifHaleyLive your dream!🤣
@@davedecker1725 It's never too late! lol
@@ClifHaley You can always "identify" as a 22 year old female dancer. Get with the times 😎
For sure.
"take your whiskey home"...you'll love that one
Sub'd and liked. Great to see this young man discover the mighty VH today and enjoy it as much as I did when I first heard it back when I was in HS in the 80's. This album inspired me to pick up the guitar. Eddie was a phenom. Rock on Mug!
"Hear About it Later" will be treat for you.
Eddie was so transcendent with his playing that he could literally play random progressions that meld into the melody. Eddie spent more time on the writing of Fair Warning and it shows despite it's comparative lower sales ranking. Eddie's the King of rock guitar in my book and this is a guitar player's album. You've got a great ear Mugnified!
Everybody raves about their 1st album, but this one and Women and Children First are my faves. Check out " in a simple rhyme"
When I was a teen, my older sister had this on 8 track
I would go in her room when she went out, and I would listen to it over and over
@@TT3X ha. My uncle was a stud...had a black bandit trans am .....gave me this eight track. Still listening to it today in my z28. Classic VH
This VH journey keeps getting better!
Love Van Halen! Grew up with! Thanks ♥️ Much Love!
Reminds me of Drinking on the Beach Frying on Acid, hitting up all the parties before the concert starts at the San Diego sports arena! Hell yeah then I’d take off to LA and party with the band
This is one of my favorite VH songs. That drum/bass/guitar groove is MONEY, especially the first 2 minutes of the song!!
Glad to see another become enthralled with the sheer brilliance of this album. Edwards masterwork, as well as the whole group. Also Edwards second slide guitar appearance on record. Fun fact: While recording this in the studio, Edward became frustrated that the bottom horn on his Gibson SG didn't give him the room to slide up the fretboard as high as he wanted to, so right there in the studio, he took a hack-saw to it and just cut it off.🤣
True story. A white Gibson SG.
Been binge watching this VH stuff. I have all the albums but haven’t heard these songs in decades. Love it!
My favorite VH album hands down !!!!
There’s a quote from the movie “Waiting” where one of the greatest thinkers of our time Ryan Reynolds speaks about Eddie’s guitar on this song, “ITS SO ANGRY!”🤘🏻
I’d suggest “Push Comes To Shove” as your next listen.
I was 15 when this album dropped. Not to mention all the other bands that were vibing new albums like AC/DC, Rush, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, man… What a time to be alive.
Peak…great description! I feel like I haven’t heard anything quite like VH since the good old days…
As a teenager ager growing up in the 70’s great bands were abundant, most now in the HOF. We had VH, LED ZEPPELIN, EAGLES, JOUNEY, BOSTON, BAD COMPANY, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, THE CARS, TED NUGENT….just to name a few……one common thing was they were left alone to create and develop there albums…..not so much anymore. Might be a good idea to deep dive into the decade of the 70’s… could be a revelation
You’re figuring out their musical genius. Awesome reaction! I guess “sinners swing “ is next, then “so this is love”. I recommend if you dig this watch this album live 1981 Oakland to get the band visually, you won’t be disappointed
When EVH doesnt even feel the need to put a real solo in the song, you know its crazy good lol. this is their best song imo.
You’re not wrong.
Eddie played drums before guitar, and that sensibility, that percussive engine is what drives his rhythm playing. He plays rhythm like a six-string drummer, and his brother threads that needle with him in his drumming. That is the heartbeat of Van Halen, and this song is a beautiful example of that.
Best Van Halen album ever!
Hell yeah Mug. VH Forever
This is my joint here! Dirty dirty bass on some killer guitar riffs! It makes me feel like I could punch a hole into another dimension 👊 🕳️ ✨
I’m really digging your reaction to this intro. It’s AMAZING isn’t it?
The whole song is great but that intro is something else.
Epic
What a fabulous reaction, Mugs!! Can't wait for the next one! I really appreciate the fact you recognize what a great album this is. Just be advised; when you get to the end, there's two very short songs that normally get played together -Sunday Afternoon In The Park and One Foot Out The Door. Peace and See you in the next one!!! VH forever!
I'm so excited that your going through this album, Van Halen has it going on.thanks Mugnify!!!!!
again, bumping this out of my 68' VW back in 1983 High School parking lot, man, them were the day's, the bug was primer gray of course, one piece windows. Then my chick drove it and wrecked it on the first rainy day of the year, out here in sunny SoCal...Lol
okay, where do hot rods come into play, I had a 68 VW that was my mom's first car she ever owned, may she rest in peace, and so when i got my license ,she gifted me it, and i had Auto shop so i would work on it at school, so "WTF" are you talking about@@rickjeffjeffoh, and btw jeff, Eddie did own a SoCal VW look it up in " Hot VW's " Magazine
So glad to see you appreciate this. Not many in the mainstream would like this, but Eddie is just creating something special with each song on this album. Some just hear the words and think it's a goofy song, but they ain't really LISTENING!
Edit: Should have went right into Sinners Swing
Ted T. and Dave had a _LOT_ to do with it - Dave's words for a start - that's why the whole Hagar thing sucks SO MUCH!
Thanks for reacting to this song. Seems like nobody else ever does. I might not really care for the lyrics but i always liked the music.
I almost forgot what a killer groove Dirty Movies truly had. Again...Fair Warning was VH's most underrated immediate classic. Of ALL TIME. While rock radio played it safe spinning " Unchained "...We were thouroughly appreciating VH
AT THEIR PRIME. With this song. 😅Before Dave destroyed the VH brand. And. Sound. From this legendary. Timeless classic. That Diver Down. And 1984.
Will NEVER have for me. With 1 Word.
INTEGRITY!!!
Before I forget...the lyrics describe first pwrson accounts of a young lady's journey. In both...The Strip Clubs. And. The slew of pornographic filth of the 1970s y 1980s movies.
Used to play this song during every gratuitous sex scene Hollywood would sneak in ALL of the popular movies of the day. The bass line covered the depth. Y. Tempo. Of the act. While Eddie's guitar work translated the emotional connections to each soul tie formed on the surface. THE MOST FUNKIEST GROOVE EVER PRESSED ON VINYL! PERIOD!!!
The drums were so perfectly timed to that foundational bass, that...
All Dave had to do was...
SING!!!
Too bad this formula didn't follow towards Eddie's unfortunate passing a few years back.
Fait Warning.
A VH LEGENDARY CLASSIC!!!
Do Sinner's Swing.
And.
Saturday Afternoon In The Park.
So This Is Love is ANOTHER killer groove. Very much like Dirty Movies.
On Side 2. 3rd cut.
ENJOY These Tasty Morsels of Ear Candy.
You'll be hooked FOR LIFE!!!
PEACE ✌️
Next hear about later, man💣💣🤘
Many great guitarists of the era bowed to Van Halen and this album and moreover this song demonstrated why it was so. Light Years ahead of them all. Sheer brilliance. Magic in a bottle.
I was 14 when this album was released. Just like the 3 VH records released prior, nothing else at the time sounded like this. This is what I and many people my age grew up on. And this is why people my age consider modern music to be trash. Ok, old man done ranting. Y’all stay off my lawn and we’ll be cool 😎 😂
56 years old. Saw VH live twice in my youth.. I'm thoroughly enjoying watching you appreciate this. I've probably listened to this a few thousand times in my lifetime, and it never gets old!
Amazing 👏 👍😎😎🔥🔥🔥 love it..can't wait for the rest of the album
Love your facial reactions! It’s “seeing” what we all feel inside when hearing VH! Nicely done my friend
Welcome to vanhalen Nation come on in grab a drink and enjoy. This man knows when he hears something awesome. This album is nasty. Rip EVH.
Loved your reaction ! Van Halen was like Super Hero status for us kids back in the day ! " The group" of my youth. Ed changed the Rock-n Roll landscape...he absolutely did.
perfect reaction my man...such a unique song...I can almost feel the dirty movie in that intro😁
This song is soooo good. Such a dark feel. Winds thru like a snake thru the grass.
Thanks!
Thank you Ed
This album and the one before it (W&CF) are their best and much darker than the fluffier stuff later.
I'm an afficianado of their first four, but honestly, if I remove 'Jump," "I'll Wait" & "Pretty Woman" from their last 2 albums with DLR, they're pretty much perfect, & even 2 of those 3 "bad" songs still have redeeming guitar solos in them.
"Top Jimmy," is one of those fluffier songs you hardly hear anyone talk about or react to, yet it has blistering guitar work throughout & somel funny & catchy lyrics & is still better than anything they ever did with Sammy, imo. Makes me sad to think of all the great music we missed out on after DLR left.
I still remember an interview with EVH & DLR in the early 80s where EVH said he'd just record his guitar tracks, give them to Dave, & Dave would come up with most of the lyrics with an occasional alteration here & there by Eddie, & that this allowed Ed all the creative powers on guitar that he could want. When DLR left, they didn't write their music that way any more, EVH even said they went to a more "traditional" method (lyrics/vocal arrangements first, guitar backing 2nd). This allowed them to write much more "commercially acceptable" sounding music but totally changed their sound & dynamics, & they became predictable & formulaic with Sammy which they hadn't been with Roth. I see their 5th & 6th albums as just a band evolving a little more but with still a great direction, & instead it just stopped 😭
This whole album has some NASTY grooves on it. And nobody but Diamond Dave's voice would work for these songs. He's the perfect salesman for this.
You're gonna LOVE "Push Comes to Shove." Yet another different sound for your boys.
That drum intro is so good. All those riffs are just gold. Bass line is so sick as well
What a great review. Im a big fan of VH, particularly their older stuff, and you really nailed it with the way this song hits your ears from several angles. Love your channel. Keep up the good work, sir!
I'm a life long VH fan and Fair Warning is my favorite album. It's just nasty and dark and dirty throughout.
You are killin it with fair warning. Imho, the apex of VH as a band. Can’t wait till you get to “hear about it later”…another kick-ss banger ….👍🏻
Hear about it later is one of their better yet un heralded songs on fair warning
This album rocks! Awesome!
With David Lee Roth swagger on the vocals in Eddie Van Halen’s guitar wizardry made some of the greatest music ever as we all know
Loving your reactions... you're getting close to how I felt the first time I heard this album when it came out.. I was privileged enough to see the Mighty Van Halen live 3 x times in their early years when they came to the UK...
You should go with Hear about it later or So this is love for your next song. And the guitar solo in Push comes to shove might be one of the greatest he ever recorded.
I loved your reaction listening to this! It’s awesome to see people checking this out in 2024! I grew up listening to Van Halen. My older brother always had it playing, as far as I can remember at the age of 6. I’m 48 now. Been a fan for the better part of my life! RIP Eddie Van Halen.
Hear about it Later is another great song off Fair Warning…Fair Warning is my favorite VH record..it’s funny, most fans will say the same thing, but when this record came out,it didn’t do as well commercially as the others….It was Van Halen at the peak of their powers for sure..
A timeless classic that only gets better with time
David Lee Roth said his musical inspirations were all based of R&B. Influences were Earth a wind and fire etc
One of the best front men and lead vocalist of ever
Great reaction video
My fav vh album and tour was a great time to be 17
I have vivid memories of circa 1991-1992 sitting in my bedroom when I was 16 years old playing "Wolfenstein 3D" on my computer with a jambox sitting on the desk next to me that I constantly rotated Van Halen's "Fair Warning" and "Women and Children First" cassettes out of. Those albums had come out long before that, but I'd only just discovered them at the time and I wore those tapes down. To this day as a 50 year old dude when I play "Wolfenstein 3D" I can hear Van Halen in my head.
Best 80sband. Best musicality with fun combined
I dig that you are enjoying this as much as I did when I first heard it in the way-back (and for the same reasons).
My favorite VH song off my favorite VH album 🙂
Mr. Mugnify, you said he's "settin the mood" and mentioned relationships, "wonder what's going on in his life?" Let's see: he's a Rockstar (literally), goes town to town meeting women, hit em and quit em, adored and cheered by millions, never married, climbs mountains, hikes the Amazon, etc. Also, incredibly lucky to have met Ed and Al. I'd say his life is just fine, thanks.
Love your reactions and welcome to the party. You have a fan here.
got the cd, this got me wantin to hear more ...My current favorite is One foot out the door.
You’re gaining some loyal VH followers now. I got more ass than a toilet seat with this album. Chicks I ran with love VH!
Yeah man! That was a great reaction to one of my favorite songs
Absolutely love ur reactions..u totally understand the whole van halen vibe
Funk. It's all about the funk.
Tuesday May 12 1981 Van Halen Kicked off Fair Warning in Halifax Nova Scotia Canada ..Epic Memories being in Grade 10 Miss you Edward
1:30 I had the exact same reaction first time I heard that drop
40 plus years and every time I hear this song, its like the very first time.
"I'm the one"! That was our song that my wife and i walked down isle after getting married.. Just cranked in a little church while a buddy rang the church bell...was awesome! Great tune!!!🍻
nice selection. whole album in order? phuck yeah. Roth years? solid. each of the "first 6 albums" are bad ass. They were far better in song writing and performing the song in studio and live than their contemporaries.
Ill be honest, a lot of people of your race make reaction videos and i didnt expect you to understand how great this song is, but you nailed it. You are one of the few intelligent "reaction people" and thats why i will watch more of your stuff.
I would recommend you to listen to band Haken. Its peak musicallity, just dont bother with new albums, first 4 or 5 are the masterpieces.
That bass is just to damn hard.
Gotta listen to the First Album brother - YOU HAVE TO DO IT! DON'T WASTE TIME - LISTEN TO VAN HALEN 1! GET READY TO BE COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY!!!! CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU TO REACT TO THAT!!!! YOU LIFE WILL CHANGE FOR SURE!!!!
My favorite song on Fair Warning, one of my all time favorite song from Van Halen.
Bass is MVP in this song..
Whole album is worth a review!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sunday Afternoon in the park/one foot out the door is the Best!!
It's a wild ride for sure!!
One of VH's best songs for sure! These guys were on fire with this album. There's a reason why they say it's their best. 👍
Warms my heart to watch those much younger than myself appreciate the musical grammer of Edward Van Halen. The greatest the world has ever seen. This album was his best work, imho. Thanks.
I gotta check out your reaction to Dirty Movies and my other VH faves every couple of months. Can't get this stuff no more!!!
It is their darkest album. My favorite
I'm lucky to have been a teenager and young adult during Van Halen's heydays. I saw them live in 1982, 1984, 1991, and 1998. The first 2 were with David Lee Roth, who is singing on this album. Just imagine this awesome music being blasted (sound from Michael Anthony's bass solo hit my chest so hard I thought I might have a heart attack) throughout a stadium with thousands of screaming fans.
Hear About It Later is my favorite song on this album. Smokin', groovy guitar solo. Just awesome.
I was a teenager in the late 70's-80's. I was so lucky!!
So dark but so bright at the same time. Eddie was a genius. RIP
Hard Funk!!! VH-STYLE!!! HARD ON THE ONE!!! Great choice, Mugs!!
