only 1 stargate show in the 90s, Atlantis was 2004-2009, Universe was 2009-2011, but yes the 90s and 00s were great for Science Fiction (I would not class any of those examples as space opera)

"Boxy" or not, it's one of the coolest designs in sci fi history. It starts off as not more then a carrier. By the end of Atlantis it's one of the most advanced ships in the universe (RIP Asgard)
It's my second favorite spaceship of all time, right behind Captain Sisko's Defiant. The boxy look really makes the 304 stand out from most other generic Sci-Fi ships, even in Stargate and to top it all off it looks like a believable human invention.
i find the Daedalus a bit too flat, but besides particular front shots that usually doesn't really come into effect. Can't say what excatly would be my favorite ship, but Daedalus, Defaint, Sovereign and Constitution refit are clearly in hun for the #1 position.
When he said switch the engines to warp engines my only thought was why would they down grade. The Daedalus class cruiser quite literally can out maneuver any ship its size and can get to another galaxy in 20 days while it would have taken Voyager 16+ years to get back to earth from the other side of the galaxy.
20 days with normal power generation, 4 days with a ZPM boosting the hyperdrive. Daedalus class ships can cross intergalactic space faster than Star Trek cruisers can cross the Federation.
He didnt say they should switch to warp drives. He was discussing how if you replaced the hyperdrives with warp nacelles this would be a ship that would fit in with Star Trek, in that it is much sleeker than it appears.
When you see the 304 in combat pre-asgard plasma weapons they tend to always keep the top of the ship facing the enemy so I believe the top side is indeed more heavily armoured. The forward fire power is actually quite a bit weaker. its a lot like old sailing ships circling each other exchanging broadsides. They use the railguns to bring down the shields then finish it with missiles. The missiles alone seem to be pretty weak against shields.
Usually the missiles were shot down before reaching their targets. The addition of the Asgard Beam Weapons was what finally gave this ship real punching power. Before that it had good defensive ability, but was hard pressed to kill even an old generation Goa'uld Ha'tak. It was much more effective against Death Gliders and Al'kesh bombers. With the Beam Weapons it is a beast.
The one time the shields failed and the wraith got a few shots on the underbelly they completely took out their life support so I can see why they tend to keep the bottom underneath the enemy
When it came to Ship to ship combat the 304 was horrible until it was equipped with beam weapons, before that it could barely scratch the paint of a hive ship if it wasn’t using nukes, which by the way were shot down half the time
This ship represents a coming of age for human kind and having built alliances with other races. We wouldn't have the technology on this ship without making friends in the universe. I miss Stargate. (Bring it back in full episodic form! Not a half measure!)
hopefully the half measure (Origions, a stupid name for a Stargate series when SG1 spent its last 2 years fighting the Ori and their religion Origin) is designed to test the water and if sucessful will resualt in a more serious series to return.
Stargate was always superior to Star Trek, even before THREE SHOWS IN A ROW were terrible Trash. But yet, Star Trek gets another and another and another Chance. It's sickening. I'm rather amused at the fact that y'all didn't cover the details of how the Daedalus Class BC can enter atmosphere and LAND with those 4 giant pads nestled into the center-under belly of the ship.
One of the things I like most about stargate shows is the use of current human level technology and how we'd use it under the circumstances depicted, fighting aliens etc.... The prometheus and daedalus were heavily based on ocean going warships, mainly destroyers and carriers,we actually make in real life just with alien technology added making the show more believable. On the size of the ships, star trek ships are actually quite small for sci fi ships as the gerald ford aircraft carrier is 337m long(effectively 1/2 the enterprise e)and that's centuries less advanced tech,so the stargate ships seem well within our ability to make if given access to alien tech.
True served on the Enterprise CVN 65 and that ship slightly shorter length wise then the Ford and our crew compliment was 5 to 6 thousand including airing and fleet personnel who counted as embarked crew and not ships company.

Look again, their F302 bays are huge and hold 8+ fighters. Each fighter is rather large and when you put those measurements along side the original 3D model they fit...not the "official" magazine length which would be so rediculiously small the decks would not make sense nor anything to do with the F302s when you watch the show. We've looked at the original 3D model used in the show and have the scale they used for the shots. We do not know where the 200m came from, it was not from the VFX department or the designers of the ship. (yes we know it was in the magazine but we dont know where they got the number)
@@Trekyardswebseries your right arguing with the size and scale the 225 meter length is a little suspect for a carrier. Me personally served on Both the enterprise class and Nimitz class super carriers and those are 330 meters in length and accommodate crew of 5,000 to 6,000 crew complement capable or carrying up to almost 100 aircraft capable but not actual.
@@Trekyardswebseries I would think the BC304 would be close to if not slightly bigger then Nimitz class Super carrier the likes of the USS Dwight D Eisenhower CVN69.
I actually think this is one of the best models ever built for a budget show at the time. It is highly detailed and I also think it got better as the show progressed with refinements to it that added details and increased the poly count especially for close up shots that appeared later in the show. Also one of my favorite ships ever made. It always felt really tough and weighty which added to it's overall intimidation factor. It never felt weak or flimsy. It feels like a military ship as it's intended and one that one could see being what we would make with our current technology. It felt more real to me then most ships in sci-fi. The Raza from Dark Matter also had that feel. It wasn't so far out there that it felt disproportionate with the technology of the time.
I would remind Capt. Foley that this ship's construction was augmented by salvaged Goa'uld wreckage, Asgard hand-me-downs, and technical assistance from both Asgard and Tok'ra advisors. As for the windows on the conning tower, that could be a second command center. I know that when the First Order, from Star Wars, built the Resurgent class Finalizer, they took the fate of the Executor as an indication that a ship needs both a more protected command center, and a backup command center for if and when the primary one is either destroyed taken over by a mutiny or a hostile boarding party.
I heard (from a 10s clip somewhere) that it was more like a reboot - none of the "we've got asgard tech now so our power level's over 9000" stuff. More like the movie, maybe even no giant tapeworm aliens controlling people (that was always a weird angle, like a 2" thick foot long worm can even physically fit unnoticed, and I think they weren't supposed to be psychic so they're somehow physically in people's brains or something? Nah.
I was actually surprised that it was the size of the E. At the same time it makes perfect sense as well. In a stand-up fight, I can see the Daedalus winning (though it's not really fair to compare tech and I'm assuming the beam tech is installed). The f-302s would be shredded though.
But would they? in a fight a Soverign class Starship would last maybe 3 seconds against a Daedalus class armed with Asguard plasma beam cannons, it is doubtful the F302s would have been launched in that time much less killed. the only hero ship form a science fiction series I could see as having a chance against an F304 is the Andromeda Ascendent due to its Nova Bombs
I agree with you, but I also was talking about pure specs and not a tactical engagement. In fact, the odds of a F-302 staying alive in a fight are incredibly high because of the fact that they would be completely useless in the fight, though the Starfleet side might be incredibly confused because of the disparity of some of their tech. I agree with you, so long as the hero ship doesn't come from a superior tech level or a fantasy univers.
well also makes sense from a com,bat point of view to be flattened instead of bulky.. smaller frontal area or side area smaller target to fire at. I would think much the same for the Star trek ships. ya know for the three major races , in any case.
The scale might make more sense if you look at the technology they used, apart from the alien systems for the hyperdrive, shields and beaming, they still used more primitive and bulky 20th century for life support and basic crew requirements which would take up much more volume of the ship.
Awesome video, been looking forward to seeing this one at some point. I'm glad that you cleared up the scale of it, i remember when i asked in a previous video the scaling always seemed off as its always stated as 225m even though those huge flight decks would be about that length on their own, this makes so much more sense, but I was still surprised just how big it looks against the two Enterprise's BTW Samuel that was a very slick intro you did for today's Spacedock video :)
I'm always Blown Away by his intros and staging of action shots and wonder why they don't have people like him working on Star Trek discovery. Wouldn't want to lose him here for sure! And we can't make the poor dude work 24 hours a day as much as we love what he produces! LOL but again fantastic work on the lighting setting and rendering Samuel!
I agree the 225m seems off but the 650m seems about right but then if this is 650m then how big is the wraith ships cause they over 10x bigger than this. That would put the wraith ship around 35km long. Since people have calculated 225mm and the wraith ship as 2.8km.
Regarding the volume of the ship compared to crew complement and Star Trek would probably be miniaturization. My guess is, that on the 304, all the utilities are handled in a traditional style. Traditional electric wiring for appliances, water piping, air ducts, etc. While ST handles all the power through EPS, environmental control, etc. I would assume that the 304 has entire decks that are just there for that. And as you mentioned, there is no replicator, so all the water, food, replacement parts, etc. Have to be brought along.
The windows on the upper part of the BC-304 makes me think the ship should be smaller than it shows at least by comparison to the Federation Enterprise, thats if the spacing in the windows are levels. Looks to be about 6 to 8 floors on what I believe is the bridge module.
It's first design was as powerful as any Hive Ship or Ha'Tak, when it got the energy weapons *and* stealth, it's the most powerful battle cruiser of the Milky Way, maybe second only to the Nox and Furlings? maybe?
It's first design was capable of fighting a wraith cruiser at most, I remind you they had to use the asgard beams to destroy hive ships. I highly doubt it can go 1 on 1 vs a Ha'tak using only rail guns and nuclear missiles, even if it's shields last way longer than the Ha'tak ones
After the Wraith started jamming the Asguard beam teleporters Deadalus repeatidly got badly beaten by Hive Ships, it could not win 1v1 against an undamaged hive without disabling the transport jammer or having help until it got the plasma beam cannons. for a demonstration look up the clip with Orion and Deadalus vs 2 hives, Deadalus was only able to damage a hive after it ignored Deadalus to finish off Orion (which had just killed a hive with 1 salvo of drones but had no sheilds and stupidly did not jump out), at the end of the fight Deadalus was in worse shape than the hive, despite the hive having taken significant damage before the fight started As for Ha'tak, a 304 was able to hold its own against 3 at once and stay in the fight for more than a few minutes but I do not remember ever seeing a 303 or 304 killing a Ha'tak, but considering an unfinished Oddyssey was able to more than hold its own against 3 Ha'tak I am very confidant a basic 304 without ZPM or the final Asguard upgrades could kill a Hatak 1v1without taking much if any damage
Yeah, but rail guns do very few damage to shields, if they even do damage, with the missiles the result would be probably the same, unless the shield modulator on it gets a lucky shot
I've been making The Odyssey in Space Engineers, so this video was a great help with all the various angles you showed the 304 model off from to get the sections right,
I think the ~250 m length comes from someone assuming the "turtle shell" seemingly with the large panels up front was one exactly story in height. It sorta looks like it could be when you look at it from afar.
22:57 On the tower behind the dish it looks like the Asgard sensor that Sheppard had to destroy in the episode "Intruder". If I had to guess all the antenna are earth base sensor tech. Radio telescope today are more antenna and dish than mirror and lens that optical telescopes are. 23:50 has a great view of the dorsal rail guns.
I always considered the Prometheus to be the NX-01 equivalent, due to both being essentially the first long range human built ships, both being smaller than most other ships in their shows, both being made with prototypical technology that the crew don't completely understand or know the limits of, both start off with realistic technology that then gets upgraded to the things we know from later on in the series, and so on.
Barry Bend Ahhhh... another Robotekie! It was a fantastic cluster of massive multifunction. I loved it. I liked the SDF3 a bit more, but the 1 gave humanity a chance.
Barry Bend That would be the original macros. The names keep switching back and forth depending on which generation. I watched the original as well. I also got all the paper game books that give specs on every ship, species and even master’s dogs.
Well there is a site called Macross Mecha Manual and it has fully translated tech specs from all of the vehicles from SDF Macross to Macross frontier so far.
I loved that series. The engineering was really cool, for a sci-fi-only... get down to brass tacks and it falls apart, but hey, can't have it all! (can't have fission reactors inside a wingtip!)
Allow me to add another comment here but after me and my brother saw carter in comparison we finally realized that the class of ship is way bigger then the NX01 enterprise. I hope the new numbers retcon the existing crap on wiki.
If I remember right they mention that the ship had escape pods in Daedalus Variations at the beginning of Season Five, and I do agree with you Commander, this is one of my favorite ships in Stargate, alongside Aurora. Also I can't wait to see the full episode on this, with 302, Puddle Jumper, Prometheus and Aurora size comparisons.
Had to pause this when you guys started talking about the aft engine assembly because it reminded me of something I heard or something I read, and I don't know if it's canon or fanon, but from what I remember Hyperspace generators only open windows into Hyperspace and it's the sublight engines that provide all the thrust, but since the laws of physics are different in Hyperspace you get more distance for the speed you're traveling than you would in normal space, so for things like trans-galactic travel your sublight engines would have to provide near-relativistic levels of speed through Hyperspace. I think this is a common trope in space fiction where they use travel through other dimensions to journey through space; Hyperspace, Slipspace, Subspace, Starburst, etc. as opposed to vessels that actually travel through normal space at FTL velocity like Warp Drives, Shockspace, Mass Effect Drive Cores & Mass Relays. Let me know if I got this wrong, but as far as I believe all visible thruster ports are universally for sublight propulsion and maneuvering while the engines responsible for all FTL travel are almost always located in the engine room. Had to pause again when you started talking about the design of the ship's underside because that's one of my favorite parts and for a very odd reason: I think it's the most vulnerable section of the ship. You look at the top section and you see all these turrets and layers of overlapping armor plating but underneath you've got exposed engine components, and inwardly concave design and you just know this is the section of the ship that is the most heavily reliant on shielding technology and if you wanted to do a lot of damage to a BC-304 very quickly just hit it right in the breadbasket. I love that they designed it that way because it's a glaring vulnerability that counterbalances an otherwise insanely overpowered ship. By the time the shows ended the Daedalus-class was so stupidly powerful virtually nothing could stand up to it. They had the best shields, best drives, best weapons, their Asgard replication technology could keep their ships running indefinitely providing air, water, food, spare parts, upgrades - they should've just renamed the ship the USS Godmode - but it never really bothered me because that soft underbelly added a subconscious layer of humility to the ship's overall design that reminded everyone it wasn't invincible.
YAY!!!! ive been waiting for this for so long! One of the big reason for me becoming a Patron. I thought this was in the works already. But i guess not, So thanks Matthew for the special request. Had i known, i would have made the special request too :P. Edit while watching: I can see you were very excited to to this episode Samuel, im just as excited as you are watching this. yeh!!! :D :D well you can always commission an episode also and have it jump to the head of the cue :D (thanks for being a Patreon also! makes ALL the difference!!)
God i wish i could have met you years ago and we could have talked stargate things back then. Back then i watched the series as it aired and had no-one to talk to about it. Anyways, the fact that i know and understand everything your saying in this video is freakin me out. hahahah! i havent watched Atlantis in a few years and i still have it all memorized. I miss Atlantis SO much.
What a cool job perk that you get to get your hands on actual models of your favourite ships! And love seeing your usual enthusiasm even amped up a bit more for something that is close to your heart. My fellow fans have good taste as all the commissioned shows have been really interesting! And as always, fantastic rendering and staging of the shots. Your work on this and on Deep Space Nine definitely raised the bar!
It's Earth's first intergalactic battle ship so yes Foley it's big... I still love you guys, got a little burned out on your STD kick but I am glad you are back.. I like that they put a little of a modern destroyer look on it.
Amazing design. All those panels atop the main body does hint at a very plug and play capability for upgrades. A Fleet Yards request for myself would be the Argo from Star Blazers.
Since you have the actual 3d model, is it possible you could share the dimensions? I've made my own model of the ship that I would like to scale properly. Roughly scaling it based on fitting F-302s in the hangar bay, I got about 620 m length if you don't count the antennas on the front and 680 m length including the antennas. How close am I?
awesome christmas present!!! thanks, i love this ship, i imagined it defiant or voyager size but i didnt think it was as big as the E, and its small compared with some stargate stuff
indeed! Huge! sure...for a convention? we just need to get invited and expenses paid for and we will be there! :D. Ive been to Irland, but only to film a wedding.
@@power543 yep you could take care of the Borg with projectile weapons on the Daedalus and not have any fear of a projectile grenade or otherwise take out the ship I always wondered why Star Trek never tried killing the Borg with projectile weapons lol
Actually they are rather small. At one point they were used as fixed emplacements on Atlantis as a defense against Wraith Darts, and they were about the size of a 40mm Bofors AA gun (google it), including the operator being seated similarly (albeit with more electronics and electric traverse)
The "railgun"used on atlantis was SUPPOSED to be a standard .50 machine gun but with a set of magnetic rails accelerating the bullet to higher velocities as it passes down the barrel. Actually I don't think they ever said if they were still the same .50 machine gun/rail gun system being used on the daedalus that were removed to defend atlantis, just that they were "railguns"nothing more. They may have upgraded to a still small,by the size of the ship,20-30mm gatling CIWS railgun system instead since the basic design already existed and would have been MUCH more powerful.
Nice show guys, really enjoyed the specs you gave. Just one thing that was pointed out in Star Trek vessels is that don't put your bridge of sensitive equipment on top of the spaceship to be blaster off. In Military ships the command side of tactical is found in the heart of the ship.
It is an excellent reminder of the size though. Deep Space Nine has a lot of negative space as well but likely over comes out with enough rings to validate at 7000 person population if you can install of that space into a cube it would be very large and dwarf anything in Starfleet for sure. So for the International Space Station I had no idea it was big as a Connie saucer but now I'm glad to know that! :-)
So... Does anyone know what the hell those Enormous hydraulic rams that connect the central hull to the flight pods are for? Almost looks like the flight pods were intended to tilt like the Intrepids nacelles, or perhaps they pull back to unlock and the whole top section comes off for maintenance or something...
My guess, and it is just a guess, is they are shock absorbers for when it lands. In Atlantis you see Deadalus land on the water several times, and as the hanger bays and nose are the lowest parts of the ship I would guess the bays are in some way designed to flex or bend in relation to the main hull to allow them to disipate the the stress of a landing
I Understand that Stewart is mainly a Star Trek guy, but Star Trek is one of the Only sci-fi where the big engines are the FTL and smaller are the sublight!
Corey Micallef how ever you want to put it. Star wars has 9 movies and like 4 spin off tv shows of 6 seasons and 4 seasons. The original cast of sg1 always came back even with sga and sgu without any reboots.
I must say: these ships combined with Mercury, Valkyrie and maybe Jupiter class battlestars would make a hell of a fleet. They all look the similar and the. Different ships would have different roles: Daedalus and Valkyrie would be the fast one's going in and hitting the enemy, with the slower and heavier long range Jupiter and Mercury Battlestars following up
The people who wrote for these shows sometimes forgot that space is a 3D battlefield. The worst example was in an old 90's show called Space above and beyond. I really liked it but the earth capital ships had No weapons on its underside. The stories were great though. My favorite was Angriest Angel. The Arial combat with the funeral in the background really hits home.
There's also a fair amount of armor. We see the ship tank quite a few shots from a Wraith hive ship and still keep going, and they can even eat a shot raw from an Ori plasma beam. It took a ton of damage, obviously, but was still meaningfully functional in combat in some way. So assuming you're not facing a super hive or an Ori cruiser, you could count on the hull armor to keep you safe for a little bit should the shields be down.
Do you think those rectangular greeblies on the upper surface would be the shield emitters? With the numbers of them and the best spacing I think that could be plausible.
yes it really is! you can tell they didnt know exactly where they could put the bridge/ just re-used details for that but BUT that is not the bridge haha
I am a big fan of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis and also love this ship, and being a Trekkie as well was happy to see that it stacks up pretty well against Starfleet vessels.
My favorite hero ship for stargate! One thing you should have done is compared the size to the Ori and the Hive Ship. Hive ships are massive in comparison (they make the 304 look puny).
How did I miss this episode? And by 5 years no less. Yikes. These shots would have been helpful about a week ago when I started building my own 304 3d model. Meh, it'll definitely help with some of the detail work. Nice one as always!
One of my favorite sci-fi ships. In the show I thought it was cool/interesting/kind of funny, how the USAF gave the Russian government one of these (the RFS Korolev) as payment for the second Earth Stargate back, which they were paying millions $ to loan from them. I also liked how it started out with more integrated alien tech, but still had to use many modern day Earth systems, eventually gaining more powerful tech such as the Asgard beam weapons and for one ship even a cloaking device. @Trekyards you guys have plans to do more pics/animations with this and the F-302s? Maybe together with Prometheus as well? :) :) :)
The Asgard were true brothers to humanity! In the Halo universe The Mantle of Responsibility was stolen from human, by the Forerunners. But in the Stargate universe, Humans showed time and time again, that even though we are very young, that they we care enough about others to be of aid to everyone!
So, just for my peace of mind (since I couldn't hear it during the actual video, please forgive me) how big ought the Daedalus be in its dimensions of length, width, and height? I like to have the precise numbers for model making, you understand.
OMG OMG OMG I love this ship so much!!! I was solo gutted when Atlantis got canceled for universe which I could never get into, was criminal. What I would give to have a copy of the 3d model, I doubt I can have the studio but do you know of any good fan models? The 304 is an extremely beautiful ship and the daedulas survived all the way against ships that totally outclassed it, the wealth and ori . It's official class is deep space carrier battlecruiser.
According to the Wiki the BC-304 is actually 205 to 215 meters in length, which I assume would be the named canon size. That would make her significantly smaller than that.
(yes we know it was in the magazine but we dont know where they got the number)
except that when you look at the stargate, the only thing in the show that is actually consistent due to an actual prop being used and NOT CGI scales that change from scene to scene, being carried by the x-302, it puts the 302 at about 8m long and 15m wide. that alone, when scaled against the ship itself every single time we see a 302 launch, debunks the 685m length given in your video. when you scale the 304 to the size of the 1701-E, that would put the 302 wider than the engineering hull of the 1701. that would put a 302 about 60+ meters wide. since they clearly are not that wide, not even close, thats another thing that debunks the 685m length. not only that, scaling from the actual show footage puts the prometheus at about 200ish meters. hell, this is only emphasized when we see the 303 land and daniel comes down the ramp. regardless of if you actually do have the original 3D model, the scaling you used just doesnt fit almost every scene that we see the 304 in. there is too much contradictory evidence. ever heard the term "preponderance of evidence"? the original model may be 685m, but thats not what we see in the footage itself.
If I could choose one ship to explore the stars this would be it. If you know how to use the end result of this ship, then there wouldn't be many ships in any other universe that could harm you. I was disappointed that you didn't mention how this ship could run circles around the fastest Star fleet ship. Or its cloaking abilities. I really enjoyed the video though. wish we got to see some of that zooming in stuff you two were talking about.
well in Atlantis in her appearances you see very clearley the details infront of the bridge as described in the episode...perhaps the Deadelious is in the classic location and the Oddesy had it moved? but i doubt that as i remember other CG shots with it in the same location. But yes in that shot it is their...oh how the CG people loose track haha!
I think this ship was meant to be modular. In total the ship looks like it has four hanger bays. And the two outer ones have these pylon attached to them. And also the top part the turtle shell looks like an add-on. It looks like it's supposed to hold those two large hanger bays underneath it. I know this was not part of Stargate. But maybe it was part of the designers plan to have different attached modules.
685.7 m length for the E , 88.2 high for the E , and width 250.6 m for the E but the bc304 is clearly wider unlike the other two that look about the same
BC-304 class ships are weird, the bridge on most of them are just in front of the giant "Turtle Shell" thing, but I believe on the BC-304-6 "George Hammond" the bridge is on the tower in the back section of the ship.
She is lovely. One of the best looking ships in sci fi. What alot of people need to remember is that before it got the asgard beam weapons and upgrades, it still had weapons and shields designed by the asgard. The rail guns were not just of human design but asgard, as were the shields and engines. This is why the Prometheus and the deadalus could take on hataks. In term of power, the Prometheus while smaller was pretty even with an hatak vessel. The ship did struggle with later upgrades though.
"2 aircraft carriers for the side, a submarine in front, and a tank in the middle." Love it.
The 90s were so great for space opera on TV. We had 3 Star Treks, 2 Stargates and Babylon 5. We'll never see an era like that again.

i find the Daedalus a bit too flat, but besides particular front shots that usually doesn't really come into effect.
Can't say what excatly would be my favorite ship, but Daedalus, Defaint, Sovereign and Constitution refit are clearly in hun for the #1 position.
wat abt Atlantis itself? It is after all a Spaceship too...
@@HappyBeezerStudios Sovereign is definitely one of my favourite designs, that and the Odyssy from star trek online
@@cadkls Prometheus ist also pretty nice. Both the ship from Stargate and the class from Star Trek
When he said switch the engines to warp engines my only thought was why would they down grade. The Daedalus class cruiser quite literally can out maneuver any ship its size and can get to another galaxy in 20 days while it would have taken Voyager 16+ years to get back to earth from the other side of the galaxy.
60+ years
20 days with normal power generation, 4 days with a ZPM boosting the hyperdrive.
Daedalus class ships can cross intergalactic space faster than Star Trek cruisers can cross the Federation.
@@NATIK001 exactly.
He didnt say they should switch to warp drives. He was discussing how if you replaced the hyperdrives with warp nacelles this would be a ship that would fit in with Star Trek, in that it is much sleeker than it appears.

OP was just being rhetorical in order to have a reason to comment about how much faster SG ships are than ST ships.
To be fair, they tend to remain in orbit when possible, almost "Sailing" on the upper atmosphere so they got the planet to protect the underbelly.

I'm rather amused at the fact that y'all didn't cover the details of how the Daedalus Class BC can enter atmosphere and LAND with those 4 giant pads nestled into the center-under belly of the ship.
And land on Atlantis
A very necessary aspect of the ship, because they didn't have the luxury to build it in orbit.
Just FYI, actual Aircraft Carriers have several antennas at deferent locations of the ship. Love your pod cast!!
Or if we stumbled on a revolutionary brake through
True served on the Enterprise CVN 65 and that ship slightly shorter length wise then the Ford and our crew compliment was 5 to 6 thousand including airing and fleet personnel who counted as embarked crew and not ships company.

I laughed my pants off when I watched the Prometheus episode and colonel O'Neill wanted it named "Enterprise". Miss the humour of that show.
Uhhh, i thought the 304's was only 250m long? They we're rather small and not the size of the Enterprise E
@@Trekyardswebseries I would think the BC304 would be close to if not slightly bigger then Nimitz class Super carrier the likes of the USS Dwight D Eisenhower CVN69.

i guess I'm kinda randomly asking but does anybody know of a good website to watch new tv shows online ?
My favorite sci-fi ship out there.
Thanks for doing stargate it made my holidays
I would remind Capt. Foley that this ship's construction was augmented by salvaged Goa'uld wreckage, Asgard hand-me-downs, and technical assistance from both Asgard and Tok'ra advisors. As for the windows on the conning tower, that could be a second command center. I know that when the First Order, from Star Wars, built the Resurgent class Finalizer, they took the fate of the Executor as an indication that a ship needs both a more protected command center, and a backup command center for if and when the primary one is either destroyed taken over by a mutiny or a hostile boarding party.
Need more Stargate!!!
I agree with you, so long as the hero ship doesn't come from a superior tech level or a fantasy univers.
well...maybe the death star can kill it too
Only if it's silly enough to fly in front of the giant death laser. Then again StarWars is a science fantasy univers so it's hard to say.
the death star surface is full of anti-capital ship turrets, IIRC
well also makes sense from a com,bat point of view to be flattened instead of bulky.. smaller frontal area or side area smaller target to fire at. I would think much the same for the Star trek ships. ya know for the three major races , in any case.
The scale might make more sense if you look at the technology they used, apart from the alien systems for the hyperdrive, shields and beaming, they still used more primitive and bulky 20th century for life support and basic crew requirements which would take up much more volume of the ship.
potentialy my favorite sci-fi ship : )
woo! :D
He says having an Aurora as his profile picture...
Awesome video, been looking forward to seeing this one at some point. I'm glad that you cleared up the scale of it, i remember when i asked in a previous video the scaling always seemed off as its always stated as 225m even though those huge flight decks would be about that length on their own, this makes so much more sense, but I was still surprised just how big it looks against the two Enterprise's
BTW Samuel that was a very slick intro you did for today's Spacedock video :)
Well... in the later version it's an intergalactic ship. So it can be big without a shame. :)
Azean you’re right on! That intro on Spacedocks today was wicked!!
@@Dazzxp Normal Wraith Hive ships are about 7km long, and the super hive is about 11km long.
"The Tauri vessel is MOST POWERFUL!"
After the Wraith started jamming the Asguard beam teleporters Deadalus repeatidly got badly beaten by Hive Ships, it could not win 1v1 against an undamaged hive without disabling the transport jammer or having help until it got the plasma beam cannons.
for a demonstration look up the clip with Orion and Deadalus vs 2 hives, Deadalus was only able to damage a hive after it ignored Deadalus to finish off Orion (which had just killed a hive with 1 salvo of drones but had no sheilds and stupidly did not jump out), at the end of the fight Deadalus was in worse shape than the hive, despite the hive having taken significant damage before the fight started
As for Ha'tak, a 304 was able to hold its own against 3 at once and stay in the fight for more than a few minutes but I do not remember ever seeing a 303 or 304 killing a Ha'tak, but considering an unfinished Oddyssey was able to more than hold its own against 3 Ha'tak I am very confidant a basic 304 without ZPM or the final Asguard upgrades could kill a Hatak 1v1without taking much if any damage
Yeah, but rail guns do very few damage to shields, if they even do damage, with the missiles the result would be probably the same, unless the shield modulator on it gets a lucky shot
Even more powerful than the Ancient Aurora warship... If the whack 1st and dun allow the Ancients a chance to fire their drones.... hahaha
I've been making The Odyssey in Space Engineers, so this video was a great help with all the various angles you showed the 304 model off from to get the sections right,
This IS a very cool ship!
In the episode where Carter ends up on the ship alone she mentions that all escape pods have been jettisoned so I'd assume this ship has them also.
Basically the NX-01 of Star Trek
I always considered the Prometheus to be the NX-01 equivalent, due to both being essentially the first long range human built ships, both being smaller than most other ships in their shows, both being made with prototypical technology that the crew don't completely understand or know the limits of, both start off with realistic technology that then gets upgraded to the things we know from later on in the series, and so on.
@@user-xu2pi6vx7o yeah and built with a lot of outside help too
SDF-1 Macross please. and fun fact the sea fairing carriers attached to the Macross are named Prometheus and Deadulus.
Barry Bend Ahhhh... another Robotekie! It was a fantastic cluster of massive multifunction. I loved it. I liked the SDF3 a bit more, but the 1 gave humanity a chance.
I am actually a fan of the original Japanese version not so much of Robotech.
That was dope, thanks guys. Now I have to go back and watch some Stargate.
Allow me to add another comment here but after me and my brother saw carter in comparison we finally realized that the class of ship is way bigger then the NX01 enterprise. I hope the new numbers retcon the existing crap on wiki.
Loved how the Jack O'neill character wanted to call the ship the Enterprise!
The funny thing is that the second human Stargate ship could probably whipe the floor with pretty much any Starfleet ships.
I love this ship. It probably is my favorite ship of all time to be honest. The fact that you got the actual model is amazing. Its so good to see the real ship again.
yeh!!! :D :D well you can always commission an episode also and have it jump to the head of the cue :D (thanks for being a Patreon also! makes ALL the difference!!)
God i wish i could have met you years ago and we could have talked stargate things back then. Back then i watched the series as it aired and had no-one to talk to about it. oh nice! :D :D sure, or email trekyards@hotmail.com (i had a ton of fun making the X303 full episode!)
I like that they put a little of a modern destroyer look on it.
the Prometheus at the end was intergalactic too, but it never made the trip to Pegasus
I have a question, where did you get the original model for the BC-304?
Amazing design. All those panels atop the main body does hint at a very plug and play capability for upgrades. A Fleet Yards request for myself would be the Argo from Star Blazers.
The dome in the center after could be an emergency reactor ejection port. Saved the prometheus
Not gonna lie, I was not subbed to this channel but then you said the Daedalus was your personaly favorite, Well You know.
awesome christmas present!!! thanks, i love this ship, i imagined it defiant or voyager size but i didnt think it was as big as the E, and its small compared with some stargate stuff
your welcome and yeh shes big! but it makes sence when you think about it, shes a aircraft carrier in space....and has HUGE fighters (the wingspan).
that super hive zpm wraith ship and anubis death star/mothership (ahem sexy ship) must have been massive, would you guys ever come to ireland?
indeed! Huge! sure...for a convention? we just need to get invited and expenses paid for and we will be there!
Jus finished binge watchin all the scences of the BC 304 on hulu
If the 304 size is comparable to the Enterprise-E, then how large are the railguns emplacements.
Actually they are rather small. At one point they were used as fixed emplacements on Atlantis as a defense against Wraith Darts, and they were about the size of a 40mm Bofors AA gun (google it), including the operator being seated similarly (albeit with more electronics and electric traverse)
have you seen vulcan turrets on aricraft carriers
The "railgun"used on atlantis was SUPPOSED to be a standard .50 machine gun but with a set of magnetic rails accelerating the bullet to higher velocities as it passes down the barrel.
Actually I don't think they ever said if they were still the same .50 machine gun/rail gun system being used on the daedalus that were removed to defend atlantis, just that they were "railguns"nothing more.
They may have upgraded to a still small,by the size of the ship,20-30mm gatling CIWS railgun system instead since the basic design already existed and would have been MUCH more powerful.
The Enterprise E is over 700 meters long!
The enterprise e is estimated to be 680-690 m long depending on the source, and DEFINITELY under 700m if only by a few meters.
Nice show guys, really enjoyed the specs you gave. Just one thing that was pointed out in Star Trek vessels is that don't put your bridge of sensitive equipment on top of the spaceship to be blaster off. In Military ships the command side of tactical is found in the heart of the ship.
You think stuff is to big, the International Space Station is 73x109x20m essentially the size of the Connies saucer and it only has 6 crew.
SG1 was so realistic
duh... its military.... its our own military in our time... US military, Russian military.... Chinese Military....etc....
In Atlantis you see Deadalus land on the water several times, and as the hanger bays and nose are the lowest parts of the ship I would guess the bays are in some way designed to flex or bend in relation to the main hull to allow them to disipate the the stress of a landing
never clicked so fast :D
Han Solo clicking that fast is more evidence that you definately shot first!
I love the 'blocky' look of the Daedalus, same with the Time War Daleks. It makes them look functional and as though they're built to fight.
Omg you need to the Asgard Beliskner and the Oniell class!!!
Either would be great to see.
I Understand that Stewart is mainly a Star Trek guy, but Star Trek is one of the Only sci-fi where the big engines are the FTL and smaller are the sublight!
One of my absolute favorite ships of all time!
I love this Star ship! I love stargate! And don’t get me wrong but stargate did something Star Trek never did! Lasted ten years!
Lasted more than that 10 seasons of sg1, 5 of sga and 2 of universe
Martin Triscila If you count it that way then Trek lasted 28 season before Discovery
Different ships would have different roles: Daedalus and Valkyrie would be the fast one's going in and hitting the enemy, with the slower and heavier long range Jupiter and Mercury Battlestars following up
A year late but at 10:30 doesn't it look like the "bay pods" are detachable, basically turning the ship into two fighter-carriers and a battle ship?
With the numbers of them and the best spacing I think that could be plausible.
interestingly the windows on the front of the tower at 22:35 have the same strut layout as the bridge window
yes it really is! you can tell they didnt know exactly where they could put the bridge/ just re-used details for that but BUT that is not the bridge haha
The tower is for fighter control.
I thought that wat the bridge for a long time, and the real bridge in the middle was a sort of backup.
is it possible to get a download of the ship 3d model
I am a big fan of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis and also love this ship, and being a Trekkie as well was happy to see that it stacks up pretty well against Starfleet vessels.
Rail guns and other guns worked very well against the Replicators
My favorite hero ship for stargate! One thing you should have done is compared the size to the Ori and the Hive Ship. Hive ships are massive in comparison (they make the 304 look puny).
I wouldn't b surprised if this aux hangers can receive Tel'tac cargo ships.
The Daedalus managed to comfortably house a Wraith Scout ship which is slightly bigger then a Teltac
when seeing this video show up in recommendations *insert gif of Thor screaming YESSS!!!!!!
Which Thor?
hmm hard to imagine Thor screaming yes... he never shows much emotion when he talks in general
The bridge in on the front of the ship and that conn tower is probably where the CIC is located.
@Trekyards Where can I find the studio model to get full accurate dimensions?
Dalek Seth solo gutted. I am so totally stealing that!
11:36 Admiral, your Canadian is showing...
According to the Wiki the BC-304 is actually 205 to 215 meters in length, which I assume would be the named canon size. That would make her significantly smaller than that.
that also fits with the actual size of the 302. we get a good scale when we see the x-302 carrying the stargate.
(yes we know it was in the magazine but we dont know where they got the number)
except that when you look at the stargate, the only thing in the show that is actually consistent due to an actual prop being used and NOT CGI scales that change from scene to scene, being carried by the x-302, it puts the 302 at about 8m long and 15m wide. that alone, when scaled against the ship itself every single time we see a 302 launch, debunks the 685m length given in your video. when you scale the 304 to the size of the 1701-E, that would put the 302 wider than the engineering hull of the 1701. that would put a 302 about 60+ meters wide. since they clearly are not that wide, not even close, thats another thing that debunks the 685m length. not only that, scaling from the actual show footage puts the prometheus at about 200ish meters. hell, this is only emphasized when we see the 303 land and daniel comes down the ramp. regardless of if you actually do have the original 3D model, the scaling you used just doesnt fit almost every scene that we see the 304 in. there is too much contradictory evidence. ever heard the term "preponderance of evidence"? the original model may be 685m, but thats not what we see in the footage itself.
I squeed when I finally saw this video on this channel!
Not sure if you're right about the location of the bridge. The last SG-1 episode shows the bridge quite clearly in the top command tower.
well in Atlantis in her appearances you see very clearley the details infront of the bridge as described in the episode...perhaps the Deadelious is in the classic location and the Oddesy had it moved? but i doubt that as i remember other CG shots with it in the same location.
But maybe it was part of the designers plan to have different attached modules.

stargate has some of the most powerful sheilds in all of Scifi
I remember being impressed when I first saw this in Atlantis.
You put the BC-303 at 516m in length, what is the BC-304?
same as the Big E
View the clip
685.7 m length for the E , 88.2 high for the E , and width 250.6 m for the E but the bc304 is clearly wider unlike the other two that look about the same
Soooo, Hive ship next?
Lovely ship, but would still like to know your opinions on the Venator class star destroyer.
Very cool & very awesome video.
How about the Saratoga from Space: Above and Beyond.
The Daedalus was one of the best looking ships in the entire franchise and one of my favorites from all science fiction.
The Daedalus class truly looks like the *warship* that is was designed to be.
BC-304 class ships are weird, the bridge on most of them are just in front of the giant "Turtle Shell" thing, but I believe on the
BC-304-6 "George Hammond" the bridge is on the tower in the back section of the ship.
it just seems small because we see it in context of Wraith Hive ships and Ori ships ,that are many Kilometers long
She is lovely.
The tower I read was the flight control command Center, responsible for the F302 etc
This is my favourite starship with the Rocinate from expanse coming in second.
How and where did you get these models? I'd love to be able to get a closer look at these myself.
what did you come up with on length width and height on this from the actual model?
The Deadalus. When you help a friend in game and in return they give you a load of pay to win loot.
