I used to be quite skeptical about signing Werner on a permanent basis but I think it’s becoming more and more of a no brainer to do so. 7 G/A from 8 starts and 11 games is not bad. No, I don’t want him as our marquee LW signing next season but as a squad player, I’d much rather have him over Gil or Solomon.
When has Tottenham ever signed a £15 million back up, then gone out in the same transfer window and signed another marquee player in the same position to start above the "back up" they just bought? Tottenham doesn't work like that, if Spurs sign Werner he'll be a first team starter for us with Solomon as second/ third choice and then they'll move onto other signings like another striker, another CDM and Midfielder. We know he isn't good enough but Spurs fans are creating narratives that he'll be "back up" as a coping mechanism. The cultural rot continues I see.

Right now the current system is very volatile to conceding goals, Ange has said on numerous occasions he won't change this means that we'll continue giving away goals. What this implies is that we need goals and lots of them to bail this system out. I'm all for Angeball but we need to be honest about what the system is going to need in order to flourish to the point where we can win trophies or titles. Werner isn't a natural finisher and doesn't get anything close to 15 goals. Right now the only players who regularly score for this team is Sonny and Richy, Tottenham fans have already conceded that they don't want him as starter but then say we don't mind buying him as a back up? This is a narrative that Spurs fans are making up in their heads and passing it off as facts as he won't be coming in as a back up but as a regular starter for Spurs as he is now. This is how deadwood acculmulates in the club we buy players we don't really want to begin with and then people point the finger at Levy for buying on the cheap.

Werner for 15 Million is a good buy, He's more of a short term player and not a long term solution. Werner makes pretty good runs, and has a few good crosses, we just need more players in the box or to pass to. I still think we need at least 1 more winger, and an Elite number 6. Where Stell is wrong is Manu Kone is more of a number 8, and Liverpool with Salah, Firmino, and Mane played completely different than we do. They had a false 9, and we don't play with a false 9, they had overlapping fullbacks, and we don't. We play more like Manchester City. The only similarity between us and Liverpool years ago was a high line, which btw Man city also did. We haven't made good signing when we splash the cash either so there is that too. Ange wants players hunger to play for our badge as well instead of wage merchants, ie Man United wage merchants.

The argument is silly. How much did salah and mane cost together. Less than 40mill. They just turned out to be really good and became even better with great coaching. There are thousands of players all over the world. New ones every year. You don't need to spend 100mill all the time. You just don't. That's not to say it's easy to find gems.

Exactly, everyone forgets that any transfer into the club is a gamble and may not pan out. When Tottenham has spent big money relative to what other clubs are spending we buy average players. We bought Ndombele, Lo Celso, Soldado, Reggie, Richarlison, Kulusevski all for big money and they haven't worked out like we wanted. Kulusevski and Richarlison still need to improve to be worth the money.

Wener is cheap at £15m. It's really not a lot of money nowadays. Johnson, by comparison, was £47m.
Werner and Johnson could look like KDB and Stel would have an issue with them.

Werner right now is the best option on the left alongside a list of poor options on the left. We definitely need someome better but personally I'd keep Werner as a backup option and shift out Gil and Solomon for funds.
On the right hand side I'd keep Kulu and Johnson. Both young while Johnson is going through his first season.
In terms of the attack Son will continue to be the first choice no 9, while we will have Richy as a backup option.
In addition to the attack, we also need good backup options to both fullbacks as well as another centre back and midfielder.
Another 4-5 signings in the summer, a potential massive clearout of players in the upcoming season (Forster, Davies, Tanganga, Rodon, Royal, Spence, Reguilon, Sessegnon, Hojberg, Gil, Solomon) and things can only improve under Ange from there. COYS!!!
I thought Kulu actually looked decent at left wing in the final moments against Forest. It was just a short cameo, but could be interesting to try for a longer period. He was able to dribble a couple of times and was making runs in the inside left position. I wonder if Ange was actually experimenting with him there on purpose...
How much would a winger capable of 5 goal contributions in eleven games cost in today’s market, more than £15m? If yes, then Werner is worth signing as a stepping stone while adding better. Simple.

The best business we can do this summer is working out how to get the best out of Bissouma.
We are in a different place than we were 10 years ago and the reason Ange is saying it now makes it all the difference. You aren't the manager and don't have any effect on the culture at large. You aren't the manager who thinks he can get something out of the club and squad (and has the ability to change what needs to be changed to do it). Surely you can see why Ange saying we aren't just aiming for top 4 is different than you saying it lol Ange is trying to change the culture because he actually believes we can get beyond top 4. We weren't in a place to do that 10 years ago and saying "I don't care about top 4" at that point in time was a bit reductive and reiterating now that you said it back then just misses the point.
I don't know why you wouldn't buy the player that has been your best winger for cheap. You're right, there shouldn't be a debate because the debate is ridiculous. If 10 million means we don't look to sign an upgrade then we aren't ever going to challenge for more than top 4 anyway. Sure, we should keep an eye on him for the rest of the season and see if he remains consistent enough even through the big matches, but on form since coming in I don't think there's any question that the answer right now should be to bring him in
I agree we can spend money. But Ange will still want to change quite a bit of the squad this summer and it'll be 4 or 5 in for 5 out to try and get a deeper more consistently Ange type squad (and I'd think we might bring in one or two more if we can do really well on outgoings but this is very unlikely as we've consistently struggled on that front). I think once the squad is mostly his players is when the club might push out the boat to get one of those top high dollar players as a "final puzzle piece". Maybe next summer, but I definitely don't see it happening this summer as it would hamper our ability to do quantity which I think will still be the aim

So far this season we've got 65 goals (7 games left) ... but going backwards over the past full 6 seasons (with Harry K and Sonny stellar) we scored 70, 69, 68, 61, 69 and 74 ... I reckon, if we still had Harry K we'd be close to triple figures this season so could we be better ? ... of course we could, improvement is never ending but we're hardly going backwards ...

Ange has always, throughout his career, had cheaper players than his opponents. Every job he's ever had he's said that. Ange released Harry Kewell when he was coaching the Melbourne Victory in the A- League. His decisions aren't dictated by Levy. The recruitment of Werner happened early in the window and a mid figure. This is what he did at Celtic also, did the business fast and cheaper than previous but had a plan for each position. Fact is that the recent decisions look like Postecoglou decisions, not decisions that Levy is known for in his history. As an Aussie, I am firmly on the bus with Ange and I think you'll join me by the end of next year.
