Crystal clear instructions: A lot of TH-camrs should take you as an example.
For those still having issues with the wallpapers showing up. Go into Appearance and turn Color Theme to Background Image. You're welcome!
stop making shit up little bro thats not even a option in apperance
@@taygo9637 it is if you're using version 1.16.0 Definitely not making stuff up.

Good looking!! 🫡
Well Done Brotha!
Not sure how I haven't seen this int he Past!
Great video, takes a minute to through and locate everything, but it works perfectly. Currently rocking the very latest stable of RA 1.15.0
Thanks for the comment! It is a bit of an involved process but I think the results are worth it. Happy gaming!
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial video. I've always wanted to add dynamic themes and thanks to you, it helped out a lot. Great video!
Thanks my friend! Appreciate your comment and happy to hear it was helpful to you :)
Awesome tutorial. Thanks!
Love your ra's videos!! Will try to implement this thank you. Keep uploading more videos 🥰😍😘
Thanks for your support! I'll keep doing my best :)
amazing tutorial, thank you very much
My pleasure! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!
The Retroarch developers are brilliant to design this for users to create their own completely unique system.BRAVO!😁Play On
pretty cool, I like it!
Thanks! I appreciate it :)
Great video!!
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback :)
Thanks a lot!!!!! Retroarch It looked spectacular!!!! Do you have more wallpapers and icons? thank you
Great video!! I am a retroarch customization fan and I learned some nice tricks. I just couldn't find the option to reduce the menu font size.
Thanks, I appreciate the comment! I find myself almost customizing more than playing actual games these days 😁
I think I made this tutorial on RetroArch 1.14.0, which is a couple of versions out of date now, so some of the settings and might have changed or been removed.
This is a well-made tutorial, and I really like the way your backgrounds look! I have games on my RetroArch on systems not covered by your pack, unfortunately. Would it be possible for you to supply a template so I can rectify this issue?
Great Vid! I'd like to get your wallpapers but your link takes me squarespace?
Nice
nice vid🙏
Thanks my friend :)
Awesome! Trying to get this done on my switch. Do you think I'll run into any issues?
K”deezy” is correct lol, one of my buddies has jokingly called me that for sometime. Anyone can make more console wallpapers and post them, I left a template in the google drive file.
Can you make more backgrounds for other game consoles? Great tutorial!
Great tutorial! I’m having slight issues. I have snes Roms on my retroarch, but the dynamic background doesn’t work for it. Do I need to find an outside bios source to put in the playlist folder?
Superb work. Could I be cheeky and ask if you could make European alternatives for the Genesis and SNES wallpapers? With the Megadrive and PAL SNES logos/console pictures?
I can't guarantee it, but I would like to update this tutorial soon since RetroArch has been updated a few times since. If that eventually happens I will see what I can do :)
Just subscribed, thanks for these tutorials! I have a question. Do you know how to have per core controllers? I wanted to use a ps5 controller for most cores, a Hori fighting commander for 6 button consoles, and an arcade stick for most arcade games. But no matter how i configure the core, make setting read only, etc. Retroarch loves to jumble the controllers around and not assign the correct controller on a per core basis. Do you know of a way to fix this, or does the retroarch ease of use of selecting and programming controllers just take precedence?
Thanks for the sub, really appreciated!
What you describe is a problem that I know others have run into and I don't believe an elegant solution has been found yet. There are some workarounds, none of which I've used myself, so I'm no expert on this. The best I can offer is this link that might point you in the right direction: forums.libretro.com/t/different-physical-controllers-per-core/31540
Great Video, but can this be done on the IPAD? iOS Software?
Awesome video thank you! The link for your dynamic wallpapers appears to be broken...is there anywhere I can still download them? They are a lot cleaner than the other option xD Cheers
Thanks for the comment! I apologize for the broken link. The files have been moved and the link updated so it should be working for you now.
A small but annoying problem with any dynamic background I use is that the playlists don't perfectly align with the background (the T shape).
I heard that it's because I'm using the newer version of RetroArch, but I don't know if that's it. Would you happen to know any fixes?
Got the m17 handheld and love the look of it. Gameyear and small info about the Console on one side and a gamepicture on the other side There should be a more easy way to get good theme on retroarch but this way looks to boring for me to try out. Hope they make a update to change from xmb to a nice dynamic theme
Great video looks great could not get it to work for me icons changed but could not get background to show up but still very impressed with your video
Thanks I appreciate that! From what I've heard from others this doesn't completely work with the latest version of RetroArch, so I will need to do an updated video soon.
Color Theme in Appearance needs to be set to "BackgroundImage" for this to work.
@@Mr_JazzKungFu Thanks for the clarification on this!
@@otggaming3180 My pleasure! I myself just struggled with this for about half a day yesterday, looking for a solution to this problem, until I finally accidentally came across someone’s comment who wrote the same thing as I did above. Maybe my comment will help someone as much as it helped me yesterday.
@@Mr_JazzKungFuthanks that fixed its all working your a legend
@OTG Gaming is it possible for you to upload the ones you personally are using, backgrounds. icons, and also the font you are using, great video, I am currently trying to do this on my PS Vita, having difficulty getting the background to display, keep up the good work.
Oh man, I have since upgraded to a newer version of RetroArch and I don't have this setup anymore. Sorry about that. The backgrounds I use are still available in the description though. I don't know if they would work on the Vita though since the resolutions might be different and the backgrounds may not scale correctly.
@@otggaming3180 cheers, for that, I will test it out on windows and maybe my ps4, tbh it annoyed the hell out of me, and I just gave up LOL, I did manage to get custom icons working, thanks for your reply.
@@monkeytrident No problem. Hope your able to get everything set up to your liking :)
@@otggaming3180 worked it out going to try your themes :) how comes you no longer make and use themes ?
@@monkeytrident When I upgraded to RetroArch 1.16.0 it messed up some of the themes and I just haven't taken the time yet to dive in and fix them. So I'm currently just using the vanilla menus.
where can I find your guide to setup console playlist please?
帅!
How do I make the thumbnail on the left bigger like yours?? mine is small and below the screen
what is the name of the font you used to edit the text YEAR RELEASED ?
The font is "Agency FB"
Can you make dynamic backgrounds for each game instead each playlist???
The Playlist name is still showing up over my console image on top left corner. I looked EVERYWHERE for the "show title header" and there's no way to find it. Is there a way to insert a command line in the retroarch.cfg??
Go to Appearance and turn off 'Show Title Header'
Mine doesn't look like 1:07. It's missing the menu icons
Your tutorial is missing how to change the wallpaper within Retroarch once you have put it in the correct folder.
I made this tutorial for an older version of RA and there are a few additional steps now. Apologies for that. I plan on doing an updated tutorial when I can an opportunity.
Nice Tutorial!
But it's sad that i can't download your Custom Background Files anymore =/
Yeah, really sorry about that :( I just moved them over to Google Drive and updated the link so it should be working now.
@@otggaming3180 What about the icons? Do you still have those?
@@lego174 They are included with RetroArch. Should be in the RetroArch\Assets\XMB folder. Within it are subfolders for each theme and a PNG folder that has all of the icon files.
Link to your custom xmb files is not working. any chance for a new link please? i wanna try the ones you made. thanks.
Sorry for the delayed reply. The files have been moved over to Google Drive and the link updated. Should be working now :)
@@otggaming3180 thank you man! I'll check it out later .
how would i go about naming things to be ascending order of year of release with consoles first then handhelds
for example
ps3
psp
xbox
wii
ds
ps4
psvita
wiiu
3ds
The easiest way is likely just to put a number in front of each console playlist in the order you want them to appear. Something Like...
01 - PS3
02 - PSP
03 - XBox
etc.
@@otggaming3180 ah i see ty
@@Sarge92 No problem 👍
hey! great video! also the wallpaper seems a little bit off (3-5 pixels) in my pc and but i'm using 16:9 monitor so theres any way to fix it?
Thanks for the comment! This happens on newer versions of RetroArch unfortunately. I recently upgraded to version 1.16.0 and it borked all the wallpapers for me too. I haven't had a chance to update them yet.
@@otggaming3180 Just checking in to see if they've been updated yet. Awesome video, and I LOVE the way my interface looks now. I may end up just making my own backgrounds based on yours since I only have a few systems anyway.
@@jerm8146 I just updated the wallpapers a few days ago and added a new link to the description if you want to try them out. Here's the link: drive.google.com/file/d/1zlNAxs1eDd7wIAfNaWlVU4Xhl1CPdbE8/view?usp=drive_link
I've only tested these on my own system so far, so if you run into any issues please let me know.
@@otggaming3180 awesome! Thanks so much. I started doing them on my own by just shifting everything up 23 pixels and stretching the bottom, but some of the logos were getting clipped. I'm sure yours are better. I do have an issue where I have to go to windowed mode then back to fullscreen in order to see the dynamic background. Annoying, but not a big problem. Have you experienced that before?
@@jerm8146 I haven't run into that before. Have you tried toggling the Windowed Fullscreen setting at Settings>Video>Fullscreen>Windowed Fullscreen>Windowed Fullscreen Mode? I have had one or two other display issues clear up by setting it to on.
I’ve followed this video to a T and the icons aren’t lining up properly with the background areas, either in full screen or windowed. Changing the scale doesn’t help. I have a 1920x1080 monitor, is there something I’m doing wrong? Changing the scale doesn’t really help as it’ll offset the buttons too far to the right.
Replying here since I’ve figured out the issue. Apparently the newest version of retroarch (1.16.0) changes the menu in some way that makes the icons not align properly with the background. I installed the 1.15.0 version of retroarch, and everything worked as it should as shown in the video. If anyone has a similar problem, try using the 1.15.0 version of retroarch instead of the latest release
you ever find another workaround? Not really looking to count on being on an outdated version of RA for this to work lol@@Grynn
@@SpearowKTA unfortunately no, I looked for quite a few hours and came up with nothing, I got so desperate that I actually commented on this video, which I never do when trying to problem solve. I only found the solution to downgrade on the discord server, so if it’s really a big deal for you, you can always try going there to seek out some help. If you do find a fix on the newer version, please let me know as I’d love to be able to update if necessary
@@Grynn will do thanks for reply
@@Grynn My icons are also located a little higher than the horizontal groove for them and stick out from it, and are not laid inside beautifully and neatly as in the video. Do you have this problem too? My version of RetroArch is 1.16.0
Good morning. I followed your tutorial,
but despite everything the wallpaper remains the same, a "red" color
you know how to help please.
and I have another question, nothing to do with your tutorial, when I'm in the menus and I want to change console when I press right, instead of switching to the console next to it, it goes into the folder...
and when I'm in the menus and I want to go down, instead of going down it takes me into the game folder...
Go into Appearance and turn Color Theme to Background Image.
@@severedties8743 thanks !!! Have a Good day
If I attempt to turn menu shader pipeline off it just freezes my ps3 over and over
Edit- had to do a fresh install and start over
I followed all the steps but i'm not seeing any background wallpaper, what's wrong?
I’m havin the same issue pal
same, im so frustated
@@thrashspeed007 change background setting from blue to i think its called none
@@SpearowKTA oh thanks, pal, but i already solved the issue. It is caused because in 1.16 version they added a new option called "background image" in the background color section, and you had to select that, thanks anyway
I DONT understand where to put box art
I got a question. Will this fit for android devices?
I haven't tried it on an Android device, so I don't have a definitive answer. The backgrounds are in 16:9 format, so if you're Android device is 16:9 I believe, in theory, they should work fine.
@otggaming3180 Thanks for replying back. For some reason the icons dont fit in with the backgrounds. It worked on my laptop but not my android phone. The version im using is 1.15.0 android.
@@drewthecoolgamer8023 My guess would be that the Android version of RetroArch uses different icon sizes since most Android devices use a smaller screen.
Yeah could be. I'm just wondering how to decrease the size.

Does it work for retroarch on ps3 ?
Sorry, I won't be of much help with this one as I've never used RetroArch on the PS3. But if the file/folder structure is set up the same as it is in Windows, I'm assuming it would work.
o hell no. Way too much work to get this set up. I would love to see more built-in themes ( like the xmb ) for retroarch.
Retroarch is trash on anything Nvidia pc and laptops
genesis nes snes all run at 40 FPS for some reason.
Sometimes works for me, sometimes doesn't... Other times, after playing a game or two, it starts working.
Ive followed your guide but I think its a bugged feature
