Hey guys, please dont erase your ORIGINAL Stock SD. YOU NEED NEW SD CARDS. DONT REUSE YOUR STOCK SD CARDS. Its seems alot of people are deleting their stock sd to reuse it and deleting the necessary dtb files. Please follow instructions so you dont have a bad time. Also you NEED to use your own dtb from your stock sd card. Mine will not work for you anymore because the R36S has had hardware changes.

I just want to thank you for this video. As someone that has never done anything remotely like this, I was able to successfully set up my boyfriends R36S as a two micro SD card setup, and download his favorite Pokémon ROM hacks onto the device and change the reboot photo to Pokémon for his birthday successfully! It took me 3 and 1/2 hours but I couldn’t have done it without you Javi!
IF YOU BOOT AND FIND A BLACK SCREEN TRY THIS: If using 2 SD cards, one for roms one for OS, I found that my R36S would not boot without BOTH cards ready and in the device. During the part where you delete the 4 files shown in the video, if you do not have some of the files the guy in the video has, then just delete the files you do have and replace them. LEAVE THE OTHER FILES if they are not going to be replaced. This is what worked for me, hope it helps

Bro, you're a hero ! I managed to do this without any IT knowledge after my R36S with original SD card was not launching Pokemon after only few days. I even managed to get back my save. One precision though on my experience on copying the BOOT files from original SD card : I had one additional file called "autorun" that does not appear in your video. Firstly I only copied the 5 files as in your video and it did not work (black screen when turning on). Then I also copied the file autorun and it worked ! Many thanks !

Confirmed working, thanks! Two caveats from my own experience; (1) under the dual SD card setup, some save states will not transfer over will cause the system to crash if the state gets loaded. The actual save files were still preserved though, and newer save states from that point on still worked. This might have something to do with emulator updates in the later revision of ArkOS. (2) The very useful search function was also disabled by default, but that was fixed by START -> GAME COLLECTION SETTINGS -> AUTOMATIC GAME COLLECTIONS -> and then selecting ALL GAMES

Anyone have trouble with the second (ROM) SD card slot? I am formatting my new SD card to Fat32 but the R36S isn't recognizing the new card, says it can't find a properly formatted card. It still recognizes the stock card as properly formatted and working.
Thanks for the video, it saved me! I've got my R36S last week and today I've got the new SD, but whenever I tried to flash the new SD one of the partitions (BOOT or EASYROMS, never both) didn't show up. I used MiniTool like you showed and now it is working like a charm! Many thanks!

Finally! Thank you so much! No other tutorial has gotten this right. I was starting to think it was cause I was doing this from a Mac and all the tools used in other videos are not available on Mac. Not true...just needed to copy the files from the stock SD card. Solved all of my issues.
I cannot wait for mine to come. I heard an ethernet to USBc adaptor works for scraping the art so i ordered one with an SD card reader so I can transfer the OS to the new SD card i bought. I didn't have enough for a 128 gb card for my games so will just use the stock one for now. I am not taking my 1.5 terabyte or my one terabyte cards out of my steam deck and ROG Ally.

At the screen scraper part: it didn't create an images folder for every console, but it did download all the 2d boxart pictures for all consoles though, i have now images folders for most of the Nintendo consoles except the snes
I followed all the procedures as outlined in the video. I replaced the SD card with a Sandisk 128GB one. After transferring the data to the SD card and inserting it into the console, it displays the system logo and then goes to a black screen. It doesn't move past the black screen. I also noticed that when using Rufus, it only shows the BOOT partition. It doesn't create the EASYROOMS partition, and there's no option to change the drive letter. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
So little update. I tried jelOS, it was not very good, then I came back to this video and just went with your whole process lmao. Rgb30 had me too JelOS pilled I fear.
I got a lot done thank you. A few problems I had when following your steps, you didn't say where to get the bios, so I grabbed them from the stock card and hope that's good enough, also when doing a 2 card setup the roms card didn't load the game folders so I have to create them, i hope I can just grab them all from the OS card where they did get created.

I am trying to follow your Steps, but when I insert my sd card, the one that came with the 36s into my computer I am missing two of the .dtb files. I can only see the boot.ini and two .dtb files? What am I missing? Can I still continue only using these three files?

update ive fixed it i do not have all my consoles on screen but i did get the playstation console to appear on like in the video so im glad altho i only have that one i did go in scapper and used the box insted of simple installement and it worked now i have to do it with each consoles or only the ones im gonna use anyway

I can hardly play psp-games which worked far more better on the stock-OS. gb, gba is no big deal. But the higher demanding systems seems in need for configuration.

Nice video, yesterday I was following some youtuber, he didn't explained so well how to update arkos, then I started to install the file and I couldn't start the console, always black screen, tried several times, I just get luck for someone said there was a file from Spain, that Worked, but I didn't remove those files, but after doing that, the console was working.. Just be carefull when trying to update your arkos, sometimes is better to leave as it is.
Idk if anyone else has ran into the problem I did. If you're using a laptop and have a micro SD to SD adapter Rufus wouldn't pick up my micro SD. I just needed to get a USB adapter and it worked. Hope this helps someone.
So my system shipped with emuelec, and for some reason after flashing the image to the new micro sd it wont even power on. i just get a flashing red light, but if i switch back to original micro sd its fine. i also dont have the dtb files that you do. unless mine are just named vastly different.
The Emuelec versions are clones of the real R36S. The clones aren't able to flash any operating systems and are generally poorer in quality. If it's not too late, I'd return it.

Is it possible to disable the option menu somewhere in the menu so that the left analog does not display the game menu after pressing it? Unfortunately, when I turn the knob intensively, I sometimes press it and menu frame appears, covering the middle of the screen...

When I first got my Orange R36S one of the first things I did was remove the back sticker. I trimmed it and put it under the battery.
What is the purpose of putting it under the battery? (Just wondering)

I followed this, but the files you wanted me to replace to exist on this r36s. Three of them aren't there.
I put an mp3 in the bgmusic folder, but it didn't play. any ideas why? is it a system setting perhaps?

Great video! Do you have any advice on how to set up my R36S using Mac rather than Windows? Rufus isn't supported on Mac.

Your vid helped a lot. I accidentally kamikaze'd my dtb so that was a pain in the ass to find the correct replacement and install, but otherwise all your steps helped a ton! Thanks :)

Nice video, yesterday I was following some youtuber, he didn't explained so well how to update arkos, then I started to install the file and I couldn't start the console, always black screen, tried several times, I just get luck for someone said there was a file from Spain, that Worked, but I didn't remove those files, but after doing that, the console was working.. Just be carefull when trying to update your arkos, sometimes is better to leave as it is.
Btw, I was using and still stock SD card, awaiting for a new one with a good brand.
@miguelfigueirinha6326 The stock it comes with is modified, so if you update it. It can create issues for you.

Idk if anyone else has ran into the problem I did. If you're using a laptop and have a micro SD to SD adapter Rufus wouldn't pick up my micro SD. I just needed to get a USB adapter and it worked. Hope this helps someone.
So my system shipped with emuelec, and for some reason after flashing the image to the new micro sd it wont even power on. i just get a flashing red light, but if i switch back to original micro sd its fine. i also dont have the dtb files that you do. unless mine are just named vastly different.
The Emuelec versions are clones of the real R36S. The clones aren't able to flash any operating systems and are generally poorer in quality. If it's not too late, I'd return it.

hello together, thank you for the good and informational Video!! It helps me a lot. I ve got only one Problem: I use only one single SD Card. I put the sd card into the handheld and ArksOS starts. But there are only these 5 typicial Games i can select. I cannot see the whole Roms from the folder "EASYROMS". Does anyone knows the problem and how to solve it?

Is it possible to disable the option menu somewhere in the menu so that the left analog does not display the game menu after pressing it? Unfortunately, when I turn the knob intensively, I sometimes press it and menu frame appears, covering the middle of the screen...
