      I bought the sit to stand walker. Sadly, I found it so obnoxious, I’ll be sending it back. Ten minutes of “ThE sUn Is ShInInG” every few seconds was enough to test my sanity. :( I’ll see if I can get the equivalent from a different brand.

    By taking the top off of the shape sorter, it creates its own "bucket" and makes it easier for younger kiddos. You also showed how you can use the toys on a play mat even after a child is beyond that stage. What a great way to stretch our toys out for longer periods, and still help our kids. Thanks!

    Hi Emma, I've looked through your videos but can't see anything on helping your toddler learn to jump. So requesting a jumping skills video! My 2.5 year old (quite delayed due to being born at 25 weeks) is catching up on a lot but cannot seem to jump. He gets bending his knees and coming up...but doesn't understand pushing through his feet. Bonus comment - your videos are awesome and I recommend them every time someone in my premmie baby support group says 'help my baby isn't doing this is it because of prematurity'. You've helped us all help our babies learn. ❤

      Try distraction. But also just get used to it. They will continue to protest things they don’t like as toddlers and preschoolers (and beyond), but you know what is best for them and don’t need to give into every demand.
      Clear, consistent Boundaries are important.

    What kind of pieces for the shape sorter would you recommend for a six month old and up, - there are the ones that are filled like a whole wooden cube etc. and the hollow ones that are like cookie cutters, that only have one side (I hope it makes sense). I see more of the latter on the market and I understand that the cookie cutter ones are easier to grasp on the side, but which of these would you recommend more?

    Hello Emma! What a helpful video. I’ve been trying to think of ways to switch up my son’s toys and this gave me some great ideas. I love the idea of bringing in a shape sorter. I have a question: Would an activity cube be a good option similar to the activity board you mention in the video? Or would the activity board be better in your opinion?

  • @erinpurcell3523
    @erinpurcell3523 ปีที่แล้ว

    Such a helpful video! My baby will be 7 months on Friday. He has been purposefully dropping toys, transferring toys from hand to hand, and using his fingers to pick up smaller objects for about 3 months now, but every single thing he touches still goes straight to his mouth and stays there a good bit of the time. He will bang toys together or on the ground, but we have held off on a lot of fun sensory activities because we don't want him putting certain things in his mouth. At what age would his constant mouthing become a concern? I will say he is cutting his two upper teeth right now.

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's awesome!
      In regards to the mouthing. Mouthing is extremely common at this age as they don't have the fine motor skills required to manipulate the toys with just their fingers. So they mouth to explore and play with toys. Mouthing also helps to relieve teething pain. We expect bubs to continue mouthing throughout their first year. What you should notice is the mouthing becomes less frequent. Then generally some time after 12 months the mouthing starts to decrease significantly and they primarily explore using their fingers only.

    Question about my nine month old baby boy. I have been wanting to get the v-tech Walker, but I have also heard that light up toys are bad for language development. So, I’ve been a bit confused about that! Any suggestions?
    Thanks! Love these videos!

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's about the back and forth interaction that you have with your little one that facilitates language development. So if your little one is playing with the light up toy and you are commenting on it and interacting with them, then using this toy can actually encourage language development.
      In saying that you don't have to talk to your little one constantly throughout the day. It is ok for them to just explore toys while you do other things. This exploration is great for their thinking skills and fine and gross motor skills.
      I hope that helps!

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No need to put them all away. Keep the ones out that she likes.

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All bubs are very different. Sitting is a skill bubs can master anywhere from 6-9months. They should definitely be sitting independently by 9 months. In this video my little one is 6 months (where the nursing pillow is behind her back incase she falls or leans too far) and 8 months where she doesn’t have a pillow.
