    I traded my flip 4 for a fold 5 and the fold 5 made me realize I don’t need to carry laptops around anymore. It was so pleasant just to have the fold 5 as my only device. I do need a good portable keyboard, but this is going to change how I use electronics for sure.

    I’ve concluded it doesn’t matter about the tech specs, all Apple devices are limited by their software. Thus once you’ve used one Apple device, you’ve used them all. The experience will largely be the same.

      I use an android phone as my main device and have used android since the HTC magic. I find my iPad more versatile. Not many seem to realise how much customisation you can do without sacrificing integration etc.
      Customisation features like: focus modes, work flows, scrollable stacks, share sheets, gesture and accessibility controls etc.

    • @the55squad

      My only problem with android was that there wasn't a good small tablet option out there to match with the iPad mini. I guess I will be getting a fold when my current phone dies.

    • @AndrewUKLondon
      @AndrewUKLondon 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@the55squad I had small android tablets from Samsung, Sony, LG, Asus, Acer, Lenovo and others. Fortunately, I was able to get rid of them - they each had their issues, worst at the time was Samsung, best Sony.
      Given the life expectancy of those conspired to the iPad mini I have now with probably 6 years of practical use, the ipad is the obvious cost effective and functional choice for me, especially for things like OneNote, mind mapping and other productivity, media and apps where iOS share sheet gives me the depth of integration between apps that I want (as well as basic consistency).

      No,Apple sells ecosystem,an experience of effortless professionalism with aesthetic ,while android devices are devices,you pay more attention on the devices,one system, endless variations …. I’d rather focus on creating using I know is way enough for years to come,then all I need to think is do I need an upgrade this year? I’m into the experience,not the tech.Foldable’s kind cool for reading, note taking and I like the Nothing phone’s minimalism approaching and the Teenage Engineering design language ,that’s all.

    • @AndrewUKLondon
      @AndrewUKLondon 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GLGL520 I've just switched from being a lifelong android user with the HTC magic to iOS (iPhone 15 plus). There are more customisation, personalisation and integration possibilities now with iOS than I could get on my android 13 phone (to name a few: lock screen use, focus modes, scrolling widgets, workflows, write your own behaviours, location and other event triggering... And more).
      Any one saying that you can't do that hasn't looked that hard. I find it ironic that some people don't take the time to discover what's possible.
      And 7 years of OS and security updates. I'd have been tempted by a Asus phone but their support for updates is only a couple of years. They are one of the few manufacturers that bypass androids built in downsampling of audio (Sony does too). IOS outputs truebit audio which means I can get better audio quality with an iPhone even compared to my beloved LG quad DAC phones.

    I'm a samsung loyalist and you are one of the people who convinced me an ipad air 4 was the right choice as a tablet for me (a few years ago now!). When the foldables become more affordable and durable I can see myself going that route (expecting to upgrade to the newest samsung galaxy in a year or so unless my now ancient s9+ completely dies before then 😅), but even saying that I think I'll stick with at least one ipad device now because my use cases are different enough to justify it and honestly I like that my devices don't default to 'talking' to each other 😂

    A lot of it comes down to ecosystem. I tried to go over to Apple, I bought a MacBook a watch an iPhone an iPad pro 11-in and an iPad mini 6. And I absolutely loved how everything worked together. Unfortunately I missed the versatility of Android. And everything being USBC. I do personally use dex a lot, because I have xreal glasses and your phone turns into a trackpad and keyboard while the glasses are on your face. This last iteration of Samsung devices specifically also have greatly improved their own ecosystem. All my devices connect together like the Apple devices do now. My headphones automatically switch back and forth, my cursor and keyboard go back and forth between all my devices, and not only that I can connect my Galaxy tab S9 Plus to my ROG ally and it works as a large USB-C display for my windows-based gaming handheld device. The keyboard cover including the trackpad also work when I have a connected. Just one of the many examples of how versatile Android devices are. They play well with others, unlike Apple devices. The big thing for me was being able to go from my MacBook to my iPad mini 6 and drag and drop copied items for notes and stuff like that as I ended up going back to school. But now, the Samsung devices do that with Windows and of course their own galaxy books. For some reason Samsung doesn't do a good job at letting people know that it does all this stuff.
    Suffice it to say, most of these reviews come down to which ecosystem you want to be in. Or have to be in depending on what software you want to use or have to use.

I think there's something to be said for having a specific device for a specific purpose. Plus, if I'm using my phone and my iPad, then both batteries are far more likely to make it through the day.

    Wonderful and informative video! Although I’m not really steeped in any particular ecosystem, I absolutely love using my iPad for note taking at work using OneNote. However, you are correct that using the iPad requires the additional step of carrying a note bag or attaché case. My gripe is that I’ve forgotten my iPad at work which bugs me since I also use it at home. I’m considering the Fold 5 for the simple reason of being able to pocket it when not in use. I do hope the note taking function isn’t too much of a demotion compared to the iPad.

    I (almost) totally love my iPad mini 6, it’s with me daily. The one thing that frustrates me is when I’m using it in landscape and need to type something. It doesn’t automatically scroll up the page so I can see what I’m typing. This is massively annoying as I need to change to portrait to type in the field.

    • @arvandvarahram
      @arvandvarahram 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is really annoying. Our customers complain that they can't use our software in landscape mode. But there is nothing we can do about it. I don't get why this is not addressed by Apple. This does not happen on any smaller Android tablet, and of course not on Z Fold in landscape mode.

      I thought about faceid on an iPad mini and for me, having the touch of option is more useful (both might be handy). There's an advantage of touchid where it kicks in if you want to. Yes faceid is more secure (and better than the Samsung approach). However, there are advantages of having different biometrics on different devices.
      On a phone I definitely prefer faceid - apart from anything else it works when wearing gloves, but I don't use my iPad mini with gloves.

    • @AndrewUKLondon
      @AndrewUKLondon 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pug_63 I haven't thought about opening an iPad with a watch. Tbh I wouldn't it wouldn't make a difference for me, other than perhaps make it possible that my iPad gets unlocked when it's not in my hand. I find the ipad unlock button to be quick and perfectly placed. Whether I'm using it landscape or portrait, my finger (left or right- I set up more than one finger) is in the perfect place when I hold the ipad and that unlocks the ipad and brings me to the home screen or whatever I was last using. If I had face unlock I'd still need to swipe the unlocked screen or press a home button or something.
      However, it would be great if you could just use the ipad and apple watch together. I mostly use my apple watch with an android phone or the watch standalone. It can be some weeks before I link it to an iPhone.
      I'd much prefer to have wireless charging on the iPad mini (I have wireless chargers that are ideal for that).

    Just got a fold 5 and definitely feel like it's the best tablet. I can put it in my pocket and take it anywhere. I will likely sell my Samsung Tab S9 as I can't really see needing both.
    I want to use the fold 5 for my phone and tablet and the front display is growing on me. It's basically the same width of an iPhone mini 12 or 13, but taller so gets a little extra information on it. Using it as a small phone for quick messages, calls and basic social media is great. If you want to do more the phone encourages you to open it and use the big screen. If you don't have time for that the small front screen is perfectly capable for the quick smartphone things. It's such a cool device.
    I'm still getting used to the crease, I have bad OCD when it comes to display imperfections, and where a small scratch with bother me, the crease mostly disappears.

    I had a Fold 4, but in the end I had some technical issues and traded it for an S23 ultra. I bought an iPad 9th gen to have a tablet to make up for the lost screen size when unfolded on the fold 4. Unfortunately with the keyboard trackpad case I got, the iPad was too burdensome to take most places. I recently got the iPad mini and this is working well for me. I can squeeze it into a front or back pocket 90% of the time.
    Technically the Fold has a better screen, and much better multitasking. The mini is a little bit bigger, but I don’t have to have anxiety about scratching the plastic screen or being near dust or sand. I might try a fold again, but probably not till the fold 7, 8 or 9 and hopefully these concerns will have been eliminated by then.

    As an Android user and my work relies on the use of Google Drive, I always dream about getting a Samsung Fold or Ultra for a phone cum handy note-taking device
    .
    However, the pen integration on Androids, even on Samsung devices, seems an app-level integration. For example, lack of Palm Recognition/ rejection, which leads to registering palm touches during note taking with pen. It is very frustrating. Of course, writing with my palm in the air solve the problem but it is ridiculous to do so.
    After getting an old Ipad Mini 5 with an Apple Pencil, I am amazed by how good the pen integration is.
    The Palm rejection is built to the system level, the pen-using experience is consistent across apps. Writings could be done to a pdf opened in Files and synced immediately.

      As a note taking device, I definitely prefer the iPad mini. You can sync most, if not all files to Google Drive from Apple devices these days. The environment isn’t as closed off as it used to be.

      @@PatrickRambles the only inconvenience I have with Google Drive + iPad mini is that I can't save changes to the same file on GD, I have to save to a new copy.
      While making changes to files on iCloud (through iOS File app) has no such problem.
      Opening and making changes to files by GD app on iPad has no such problem, too. But GD on iOS lacks of commenting (drawing) on PDF function (even it is available on Fold/ Ultra (Android), the functionality is still limited).

    I prefer the ipad mini (and not just because it's a third of the price) but because of the range of personal and professional uses, the iPad had the better software for me. I particular, functionality of Microsoft OneNote, but also mind mapping tools.
    The ipad mini is tough (no issue with potential weakness from folding continually, or screen creases. I use "paperlike" and write with the apple pencil, a full length pencil that I prefer over shorter styluses. It feels like writing /drawing on premium paper. And the 6 years plus of is and security updates is great. I've had numerous tablets (iPads, Samsung, Sony and others) and the ipad mini is ideal for my needs.
    Foldables are still too expensive, bulky and heavy, a compromise from what I want which is a decent slim slab with good battery life. I'm still using an LG v60 (android 13) and it's brilliant - a removable second screen so I get the choice of a second screen or slim slab, 3.5mm headphone socket, aptx adaptive, ess sabre Quad DAC, sd card slot, tough as nails and cost with second screen was £650 when new.
    One of the things that surprised me most with the ipad mini was how it changed my use of other devices.
