That is definitely a fair weather route! Well done for seeing that one through, some parts of that look pretty challenging. But what a stunning way of getting onto Snowden. Great video as always, stunning views. Thanks for posting 👍
Well done both, I did Crib Goch a good few years ago now and it's still one of the scariest experiences of my life lol! Great video as always Dean, keep them coming. 😁
I was there the weekend after you, I did the Snowdon horseshoe taking in my first attempt of Crib Goch from the South and down it's North ridge. It was 3000's training. And training for my visit there the following month with Geoff and his team :)
That’s a great route. I’ve done CG many many times but the trickiest was with my wife one winter in the snow and ice. We roped it and had all the kit but definitely not the route to start out with. Great video btw, really well done. Thanks!
@@DeanRead hi yes was a great walk up to the top. Hated the top with so many people trying to get pics most got train up. I’m thinking come in guys walk up do it properly. Full Of Americans when we went up.

Well done to you both for taking on Crib Goch. I’m definitely in the ‘it’s not for me’ camp! We can’t have our favourite TH-camr taking too many risks though. Back to more sedate walks now 😆. I walked Snowdon a couple of years ago in similar weather and was blown away by the beauty of it. You can see why it’s so popular given how accessible it is too.
nice video. so great to see the Snowdon horseshoe again, which I last visited in 2013. my Dad climbed Snowdon 80 times, including one time witnessing a double fatal accident at the top of the Pyg track (February 10 1951)
great video Dean. I did crib a few months ago on a clear sunny day first time and solo it was amazing and a challenge. will return again for more paths and views !
Thanks for another great video. I'm enchanted by the views of Snowdonia, not so much by the Crib Goch path! Watkin path definitely looks like a nice one though.
Sounded like the end of Eastenders with that drum outro... I thought you were going for a literal dramatic cliffhanger and tell us you'd actually left your brother up on the ridge :D Glad to see you putting out the vids again buddy - Crib Goch is a fine route.
Hi Dean, great video! I’m staying at Bryn Dinas in July and we have planned to walk to pen y pass car park to do Crib Goch and come back down the Watkins Path so amazing you’ve done it aswell. Can I just ask how long it took you to walk from the campsite to the pen y pass car park? Just need an approx so we can workout what time to set off.
Great walk Dean, Weather permitting will be doing the Watkin path next week as not walked that route up before and looking forward to seeing the waterfalls. It does look a very picturesque route.
Hi Dean thanks for sharing this adventure with us. it's tough this scramble I've done Crib Goch myself along time ago it was a perfect summers day I did it the other way round though from Snowdon's summit ( I'd climbed Snowdon up the PYG track and miners track) atb Dean Cheers Glenn 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Really enjoyed this upload Dean - as Crib Goch is such a memorable way to climb Snowdon. 🤩 But as you said it is definitely not for the faint hearted - especially in poor weather. Great to see you had good weather, and all those stunning views - beautifully videoed as always. Sad to hear that a man died after collapsing during a mountaineering club outing in Snowdonia at the weekend. Anyway hope you managed to climb Pen y Fan, so you can add it to your list of recent walks with your brother. ATB
It's definitely not for the faint hearted, the is no room for error. I don't think people realise how dangerous it is and it's hard to turn back when you're up there. I feel for the Mountain Rescue Teams who have to extract people from tricky spots like that.
Fantastic video. Love the Red Dragon pods, stayed there twice. Interesting to actually see what the views like from the top...always been under cloud every time I've been up
I really enjoyed staying at the Red Dragon pods too, lots of Ticks though sadly... I had to fish 4 out of my body during our 2 days there... I hate ticks.... Even more than I hate midges. Thanks for watching
Thanks for watching Sarah, my brother has always been the fearless one 😁 I think I've just got a little more cautious with age. I'm comfortable with heights it's just the safety aspect, I would have ran across there if I was roped up 🤣
Another great video Dean. I went with an organised group , I think in 2010 , up the Pyg Track and down Watkins , Really enjoyable routes. Not too scary, though Pyg Track has bit of scramble and short narrow ridgey section and the scree slope down the Watkins Path worried a couple of the less experienced ones in the group. But it's fine for any one with reasonable fitness. Take a stick maybe. Must get back there soon . Cheers
Thanks for watching Roy, I was really impressed with the Watkin Path. I'd only done the Pyg Track in the past so it was nice to experience 2 more routes
@@DeanRead update (if you care!) Weather was okayish both days so managed to get up twice. Did CG-Watkin Path back round to Llyn Gwynant (where we camped) and then back via Miners the second day. CG is unreal isn’t it!
Fantastic Dean ... many thanks .... got mixed feelings about people .... i like sharing a ramble. The train is the 'achilles heel' and the cafe totally ruins the effect. Also, there are a ton of huge lesser known peaks in Snowdonia where you can be a little more reclusive. Magic upload,
Thanks for watching Paul. Totally agree that the train is the Achilles Heel. It's such a beautiful place and I'm all for people being able to enjoy the outdoors. It just puts a strain on what is already a busy Peak. So glad we managed to experience it without the crowds. I've been lucky every time I've been there over the years. I much prefer the peaks off to the south, have camped with Spectacular views of the Snowdon horseshoe and not seen another soul all day.
I think it's good that you talk about the seriousness of being up on Crib Goch. I always remember the near-vertical climb up to the ridge as being a challenge in itself. Wouldn't fancy heading back down that but it would be preferable to going down the sides! I remember seeing climbers just ambling along it on two feet, while the rest of us shuffled along more cautiously. :-D Not sure if you noticed but on the sign at Pen y Pass, it advises people to wear "sensible footwear" and proper walking boots... We gave a mate some stick because, like you, he was wearing more minimalist shoes. ;-) Of course, all was fine and I am kidding. Looking forward to seeing what you get up to in and around the Brecon Beacons. All the best.
That initial climb is tricky isn't it. We met the other 2 groups there as they couldn't figure out how to get up, my brother lead the way and they followed. They soon realised it wasn't for them and one of the guys even said he was afraid of heights 😯😯 what did they expect it to be like?? Absolute madness to not do your research beforehand. I used walking boots for years but have transferred to trail shoes for everything but winter walking. The grip on the Inov-8 Terra Ultra G 270s is phenomenal, much better grip than any high value walking boot I've ever owned. Thanks for watching Olly 👍😎
Another great vid, they have have done a lot of work recently on the top of the Watkin path. Up the Watkin and down the south ridge is probably the most scenic route. How do you compare the CMD to Crib Goch in terms of exposure? 👍
Thanks for watching 👍 the CMD is amazing and I really enjoyed it, but it is no way near as exposed as Crib Goch. There are some tricky bits on the CMD arete but there is no room for error on the sharp sections of CG. We'd originally planned to go up Watkin and down the South ridge but was so happy we did CG as the weather was just right and it wasn't busy.
