Didn’t actually do CPE much good in his own lifetime as JS was considered by most as something of an old-fashioned fuddy-duddy, with most listeners much preferring the new-fangled sounds coming out of Mannheim, Milan, Vienna, and elsewhere, and perhaps above all - including in Germany*- Italian opera, an area which JS avoided completely. * Check out the expense Frederick the Great expended on his new opera house in Berlin that produced entirely Italian opera productions, along with the enormous cost of running the entire operatic set-up. (Frederick notoriously stated that he should expect to get as much pleasure from the neighing of his horse as listen to a German sing).
