For Hamburg it had to be a bit more, and after the Berlin version in 1749, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach added trumpets and timpani to his Magnificat for soloists, choir and orchestra.

Philipp Emanuel's inner Sanguineus and Melancholicus each have ample opportunity to express themselves in this masterpiece.
His penchant for constant and sometimes reckless experimentation makes CPE a composer that might offer inspiration and guidance for our troubled and confused present historical moment.
The grösse Fuge "Sicut erat in principio" never sounded so coherent and unified as here, in my humble opinion.
This Fuge is a spiritual bridge between J.S. Bach and the polyphony of Haydn/Mozart/Beethoven.

@@dorette-hi4j Listen to it again, with the full score open in front of you - and see how much you can hear. The singers don’t even have time to breathe at this absurd overspeed.
@@gregfolland6569 How often within each phrase do you think singers need to take breath in the opening chorus? There are rests between phrases for them to breathe.
