For those who do not think in these terms.
AFU is using commercial drones. I bought 1000 AP rounds for about that same amount of money. 25x40 round magazines. Both can be used up and lost in one day. RARELY are 1000 rounds going to destroy any armor. Rarely will 3000 rounds hurt any armor. Also very rarely armor will survive 3 drone strikes.
AFU is delivering a mortar round without training 3 men in the pit, but on controllers, and command. The drone operators are more precise and effective with each round, and less subject to return fire.
Net result, lower cost. Lower casualties for similar to lower costs, and less resistance to the training. That is most of these 19 year old drone ops have used controllers for 10 years, unlike rifles and explosives. Infliction of much higher damage on the opponent, and a much higher sense of danger, and drag on moral for the enemy. Oddly, the younger the enemy, the more they are certain a drone is a huge danger.
The scope of the battlefield is expanded in Ukraine. It is cheaper and less involved for the AFU to inflict much more damage than ever seen before for such cheap prices in men and material.

They also have a bad habit of falling out of the sky and otherwise failing spectacularly, with about 1500 casualties resulting from 137 accidents. OTOH, the C-17 has 8 incidents resulting in 4 deaths. there've been 969 IL-76s and 279 C-17s built, but even adjusting for numbers, Ilyushin has Boeing-style issues.

The position Ukrainians and some Russians find themselves in must be horrific, I cannot begin to understand what their daily lives must be like. The levels of hatred shown on both sides towards each other is palpable. I have served in the British Military and so I do understand the military aspect to the current situation. What i cannot understand is the use on both sides is these FPV drones used to kill individual soldiers. The use of these drones in this context is barbaric, most footage I have seen the individual is fully aware that they are being targeted and tries to avoid being hit by any means. The time before death can in some cases last for minutes after becoming aware of their plight. This isn't warfare, it is a sick perverse form of murder, the individual usually blown to pieces beyond recognition.

What does the war in Ukraine have to do with tanks? Want to go back to WW1? Ok, for trench warfare but definitely not for tanks.

@@Unotakehandle the cost of the services to refurbish those surplus pieces and safely deliver them to the front line, is surprisingly high. Military logistics (in which the US is second to none) and other related services made the projected ~$70 billion cost of the War in Iraq, into $3 trillion. Ukraine is only 1.5x the size of Iraq; but the fighting is much more intense.
