Well, the only way to play Shadow of the Colossus if you don't have a PlayStation is to emulate the PS2 version (It really is the same game as the PS4 Remaster but without the upgraded graphics and a few collectibles less, for those who don't know), so it isn't totally useless

8:00 Just a reminder, Mafia 1 added the difficulty options to the race section over 20 years ago in a patch. If we're comparing racing in Mafia 1.0, Mafia 1.2 on Very Hard, Mafia PS2 on Hard (it has 6 laps, so I guess I can count this one as well) and Mafia Definitive Edition on Classic, the racing in the remake is easily the hardest one. Sure, it has a few scripted car crashes and only 3 laps, but the enemies are much faster and it's easier to screw up while making turns. Oh, and also there are no built-in shortcuts anymore. :) 8:10 It's actually the opposite here. In the original you've always had an access to all the checkpoints you've unlocked on your profile. In Definitive, you only have an access to the latest one. Maybe you're mistaking it with classic GTA games, which actually had no checkpoints with very few exceptions?
I respect this video. It was a fun watch, thank you. However when we become “gaming addicts” there might be some things to add. 1) Resident Evil. Re1 was an interesting game, although 2 was in truth the game that launched the series to legendary status. The Original game has an Iconically bad VA… and to be honest it’s so Goofy it makes it better than the Remake VA for me, which barely has any memorable dialogue. There is also some gameplay changes and story changes obviously, like you can see Wesker’s headless corpse in a Jill ending that breaks RE continuity. 2) Demon’s Souls. The Remake does many changes on the game. The soundtrack changed… but on inspection it went from synthetic to an IRL Orchestra (like Bloodborne). The gameplay changed, it’s great rolling VS the original 4 way rolling. And the inventory system changed, you can send items to storage in Remake (killing a secret survival horror like system) and you can no longer carry much healing because in the original all heals had the same weight. And obviously graphics changed, all enemies are “foggy” in order to follow the lore better. 3) FF7R, the game plays better, and the voice cast is the same one they have and WILL use on the Remake part 1/2/3. And having said that… if you play the original, the VA of original Zack was TOO GOOD. Seeing the original VS new side by side is simply sad. And that’s the end. Again, I agree with the title, if I recommend these games to a friend, I will NOT recommend the originals. You need to be more hardcore to appreciate the changes. We live in a world were people talk about graphics none-stop. If you look at the gaming market, there are games that try to recreate the esthetics of old games like Mario 64 or PS1 games… but they are nitch. These remakes don’t “replace” the original IMO, but rather they become the new standard to the public. “Obsolete” would imply that the original games have no value, and with that I disagree. But to deny the advantages of the re-releases is also wrong.
I think Resident Evil: Code Veronica desperately needs a remake. There’s so much potential with that game that an overhauled remake would turn it into one of the best Resident Evil games. I would also like to see remakes of Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Retain the story, quests and RPG mechanics but with modern graphics and tighter, more satisfying combat akin to Fallout 4 and Starfield. Do that and you’ll have a couple of masterpieces. Lastly I’d like to see Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 remade. Same deal as Fallout 3 and NV, just modernised and in the case of KOTOR II, include all the cut content so that the final 3rd doesn’t suck.
Load Times are such a big Quality of Life upgrade that it makes me like most remakes/remasters over the original. No better examples than the Final Fantasy PS1 games (7-9)
Ys: The Oath in Felghana is probably my favorite video game remake. It took one of the black sheep of the franchise -- Ys III: Wanderers from Ys -- and turned it into one of the best titles in the series, not only revamping the graphics and gameplay but also expanding the story and switching the perspective from a 2D side-scroller (in the vein of Zelda II) to an isometric viewpoint.
I think it would be great if you did a video for a like a dragon series talking about what makes it so special. For somebody who never beat one of them 4 months ago and now I beat 9 of them this series is special for me.
I think this comes down to purely preference as I prefer some of the old soundtrack and the utilization of the Tower of Latria soundtrack. But everything in the remake look gorgeous.
Strongly disagree. If the remake doesn't make the original obsolete then that defeats the whole purpose of the remake. Just because the original is obsolete doesn't somehow make it bad all of the sudden. The originals are still really good. But naturally they are becoming more and more outdated as time goes on. And remakes are able to make stark improvements in that aspect. We can always go back to the originals if we don't like the remake of a certain game. Or we can still recommend to people that they should give the original a shot. So I wouldn't really say it's harmful.

As far as p3 goes, there is no objectivity when it comes to art being “better” than other art. I like p3 (yes the original) more than reload and it’s honestly not even close.
My dream remake would be GTA IV. I’m cautious because of how they botched the trilogy, but the story for IV is soooo much better than V’s. I know lots of little kids play V so they wouldn’t necessarily understand IV, but if it had modern driving, graphics, weapon wheel, mission checkpoints, and HUD being touched up, it may actually be perfect. What they could add to it, well… Staunton Island, North Bohan, and a rural area to the north. Extra areas and missions aren’t needed though.
Yep everybody needs to play it and talk about it. I'm 80 hours in the game at chapter 8. Love everything about it. It's funny, sad, emotional n inspiring. Only blemish is sega dumb dlc practice but dosen't take away a near perfect game for me.
My Favorite Video Game Remakes 1. Dead Space (2023) 2. Resident Evil 2 (2019) 3. Resident Evil 4 (2023) 4. New Super Mario Bros (2009) Haven’t played many video game remakes
I guess the FF7R is not included because of two reasons: it's a very "deliberate" remake to the point that they even changed the plot twist on who would die among the main chars and who wouldn't and also because the remake is made of several games and second part is not yet released.
Yeah it’s not a remake and so doesn’t make the OG obsolete. Even if it was a much more faithful remake, it would still be so different from the OG it wouldn’t invalidate it.
I played the original dead space a few years ago for the first time, and for some reason, i didn't like it that much, but the dead space remake is probably a top 10 games of all time. I loved it so much
I'm only nitpicky of Spyro because of how much I loved and played the og trilogy. A few visuals are different than how I'd interpret the PS1 graphics but the big thing for me is Spyro went from like a royal blue to indigo.
Hey! Where’s the Rockstar GTA Definitive Edition Trilogy? That should have been #1 on this list! The most faithful reimagining ever ma- OK SORRY I’M DONE 😭 Code word: Twilight Seriously though for the next video you should do the opposite-games where the original is the definitive version over the remake. Definitely know GTA would be on that list 😂 Awesome vid 👍🏻
You made the right pick with Resident Evil series. REmake is easily the best RE game ever and one of the best remakes of all time. I love the original, but REmake just improves everything, doesn't cut anything, but also adds new stuff. REmake 2 on the other hand fails to do that. Capcom perfected the way to remake games over 15 years before releasing REmake 2, but they couldn't achieve the same greatness. REmake 2 cut content, added nothing that's important and somehow ruined some things that should have been slam dunks. It's a decent game on its own, but damn, I was disappointed with it as a remake. REmake 3 we don't need to talk about. It's a disaster. RE3 deserved better. Luckily the original is still fantastic game! REmake 4 actually improved on original RE4. A good remake. I have to play OG RE4 again to compare it better. It's still a stupid action game even in its remake form, but it's a bit less stupid this time :D But that's enough of RE talk. My favourite remake has to be Metroid Zero Mission. Again, a perfect remake. Metroid 2's 3DS remake looks to be fantastic, but haven't played that yet even though I own it. Metroid 2 is a bit rough nowadays, so I believe the remake will make it obsolete.
Chose REmake for the first one was the best choice, RE2 and RE4 still have differences from the original that differentiate them and make them their own versions. REmake however is a perfect upgrade from the original. The biggest issue with the dead space remake is they changed Issac's face, so there is no continuity with Remake Issac clarke and the current sequels unless they remake those too. Personally I would love remakes of the legacy of kain games.
I dont think any of these really render the older ones unplayable. mario rpg is probably the best remake to be made so far imo, but theres still reason to play the older ones for nostalgia or historical purposes. The spyro and crash remakes dont do it for me visually. Somethings missing, feels too bland.
Nier replicant remake is a other fine masterpiece of how to do a remake. Improved on thecsme drastically. Better graphics, music, more voice overs for everything, new story content n a brilliant secret ending. Why more people dont talk about nier replicant is beyond me.
Is RE3 original just straight up better than the remake? I've played all entries in the series except original 2 and 3 and I gotta say I didn't really like remake 3 at all
I'm sort of an incurable purist, in some senses, and I think I would ALWAYS prefer just a straight re-release of a game. Why? Because the game was a classic for a reason, and once you change a thing, you have altered what people loved, and thus potentially took out part of the magic.
That SAID, I also love adaptations. The Shining as a movie is better than the book, I would say. The American as a movie is not necessarily better than the book A Very Private Gentleman, but it is so much its own thing that it's a work of art on its own.
If they gave re2 remake the re1 remake treatment instead of lesser re4 then that one would make the original obsolete. As it stands re2 original is still my preferred version. Same with re4 remake. Re4 and re4 remake are only the same in that they are called Resident Evil 4. Other than that they're completely different.
2:26 "I'm not saying the originals are obsolete I'm just saying that there's no reason to play the originals". Your title even says that all of these are obsolete. Not only is that idiotic, but the 2 games (and their remakes) that I've played on this list I would argue the originals are the better artistic experience. It's fine to prefer the remakes over the originals but to say the originals are obsolete is a different statement entirely. P3 (not even just FES) is leagues better than P3R and Demon's Souls original is better than the remake, even though I do enjoy the remake to some degree.
From what I know people don't like the demon souls remake based on the environmental storytelling being altered to large degrees that it conflicts with demons souls story. I'm not a law person personally, so I dont mind but yeah some people find some of changes to be kinda wrong or arrogant.
RE1 remake is absolutely the best remake ever made.....I mean the original RE1 is like a very funny, clunky, outdated B movie while RE1 Remake is like an Oscar worthy movie. RE2 doesn't really need a remake but I love both the original RE2 and the RE2 make. RE3 is good and doesn't need a remake but yeah...no RE3 remake was a lazy remake. RE4 is so good id really doesn't need a remake just like RE2.
Persona 3 original is still my favorite for the simple reason of the original voices don’t get me wrong the new cast is great but the original well always be my favorite
Honestly, videogame remakes can't, won't & should never make the original 'obsolete' because there will always be someone who enjoys that original videogame even if a remake is considered 'definitive'. Look at Yakuza Kiwami, which is more of a reimaging of Yakuza due to the implementation of Yakuza 0 mechanics.
Why do people hate RE3 Remake so much? I mean it was kinda short, but it played as good as RE2, with some additions like dodge wich i wish they had in RE2. It could have been a bit longer but i still love that game.
It's missing content and added nothing. Only thing it improved in my opinion was the hospital sequence. Sort of. Well, side characters got more screen time and personality, too. I think they ruined Jill, though. Pretty much everything is worse than 20 year old original.
Nah i have to really disagree with a bunch of them especially Kiwami 2 Kiwami 2 is more of a Yakuza 6 but better, than really is a remake of Yakuza 2, first thing is the combat where in Yakuza 2 you have some of the most satisfying combat in the series, which led to a bunch of foundations which the next games would improve (Or make it worse), Yakuza Kiwami 2 has the same combat of 6 which although i like it, it really is totally different and not as fun as the original game since it wasn't until judgement that they found a good path to Dragon Engine combat. Also Kiwami 2 has some cuts like most of the OST being totally different from the original, substories being cut, a section of sotenbori being restricted, a entire district being cut, minigames not being present or being replaced (Like the Kiryu Host substory). If anything, even Kiwami 1 has flaws like the OST remixes, the cutscenes being the same ones from the PS2 but making the characters have less expressions, The difficulty being sometimes way too hard thanks to some features like Boss healing and the game lack of explaining on how you should unlock the Kiwami finishers at the beggining, Jingu Fight being a shore, Minigames and substories being cut or replaced. Like don't get me wrong, i love these remakes, but i think the idea of "Replacing the original" kinda dumb and treats games more like some disposable product than a piece of art itself, it also makes it difficult to have ports of these older games on modern hardware for people who want to experience the original games when the mindset of "Why would you wanna play this older clunky version" exists. Which is why this idea of replacing it sounds odd no matter how good the remake is or how much you personally don't vibe with the original.
I couldn't agree more. Really, I haven't even watched the video yet, but the title alone rubs me the wrong way. Remakes are different games from the originals, and just because something is more modern doesn't automatically make it better - and even if it is better does not mean that the original has been made pointless. Seeing the thumbnail, I see he include Persona 3 and Crisis Core, which have different voice actors, and Demon's Souls, which completely changes the art style. You can prefer thw remakes, but none of them are just straight up improvements over the original in every way.
Also gonna point out that Kiwami 1 and 2 also heavily reuse boss movesets from the other games where a lot of those bosses in 1 and 2 had original movesets and stuff, 1&2 still had copy pasted bosses but it wasn’t about every single boss, Judgment has that problem too which it had no excuse of pulling and that game only has 4 original bosses.
I 100% get the sentiment but I personally wouldn't say the originals become obsolete. To me here will always be a charm in some of the original games with the low poly graphics. Not rly nostalgia cause some of these I played as an adult. There’s also usually little things the remake never got right. Some games though yes, just the remake will suffice.
Just some constructive criticism- the preface is way too long and kind of rambling. It feels unfocused and like you’re just saying the same thing but phrased differently several times. I would personally try to avoid that kind of repetition, even if you’re not scripting word for word and want a kind of extemporaneous vibe (which it seems you do).
-gears of war ultimate edition -Metal gear solid twin snakes -halo ce anniversary -shadow of the colossus -last of us part 1 -final fantasy crisis core
Dude, wtf is this video? Demons's Souls remake is just... A completely different game, it misunderstands so much about the original I honestly believe you haven't played it. To call it a generic imitation would be the understatement of my entire life. Even if you have some sick bias towards Blue Point, the way it sounds, the way it looks, the way it is presented, there's nothing obsolete about it, it's just different.
No remake makes the original “obsolete” lol bad take, if it wasn’t for the original masterpiece, there would be no such thing as a remake. Everybody is just spoiled and conditioned to want new all the time, but originals will never be obsolete, in video games, music, movies, etc.
It's not like I don't respect the originals, but to be fair why should I intentionally play an older and inferior version of a game, when a much better and accessible version is readily available?

I guess the FF7R is not included because of two reasons: it's a very "deliberate" remake to the point that they even changed the plot twist on who would die among the main chars and who wouldn't and also because the remake is made of several games and second part is not yet released.
Yeah it’s not a remake and so doesn’t make the OG obsolete. Even if it was a much more faithful remake, it would still be so different from the OG it wouldn’t invalidate it.
I played the original dead space a few years ago for the first time, and for some reason, i didn't like it that much, but the dead space remake is probably a top 10 games of all time. I loved it so much
Demon Souls remake is one of the best looking games period
Its one of the best looking games of all time. Very underrated!
I 100% agree with you on dead space remake no reason to play the original when the remake is better I’ve been saying that for a while
I'm only nitpicky of Spyro because of how much I loved and played the og trilogy. A few visuals are different than how I'd interpret the PS1 graphics but the big thing for me is Spyro went from like a royal blue to indigo.
i want ocarina of time, god of war 1, 2, 3, final fantasy 9 and 10, and the original luigis mansion
Hey! Where’s the Rockstar GTA Definitive Edition Trilogy? That should have been #1 on this list! The most faithful reimagining ever ma-
OK SORRY I’M DONE 😭
Code word: Twilight
Seriously though for the next video you should do the opposite-games where the original is the definitive version over the remake. Definitely know GTA would be on that list 😂 Awesome vid 👍🏻
Always a pleasure! Twilight babyyy
It's still a stupid action game even in its remake form, but it's a bit less stupid this time :D
But that's enough of RE talk.
Re4 remakes feels like a different game from base re4 ngl
I dont think any of these really render the older ones unplayable. mario rpg is probably the best remake to be made so far imo, but theres still reason to play the older ones for nostalgia or historical purposes.
The spyro and crash remakes dont do it for me visually. Somethings missing, feels too bland.
...So is Kingdom Hearts 1 on PS3 considered a remake?
The devs said that they had to literally remake 60% of the game's assets.
Nier replicant remake is a other fine masterpiece of how to do a remake. Improved on thecsme drastically. Better graphics, music, more voice overs for everything, new story content n a brilliant secret ending. Why more people dont talk about nier replicant is beyond me.
i really really hope rockstar goes back to the midnight club series
Im surprised you didnt put xenoblade definitive edition on ur list. Much improved graphics n added a new story content that is like a mini sequel.
0:35 can anyone tell me what game this is at this point in the video, please & thank you
star ocean second story r
Is RE3 original just straight up better than the remake? I've played all entries in the series except original 2 and 3 and I gotta say I didn't really like remake 3 at all
Im 80 houre in infinite wealth just all around amazing game. Glad to see the like a dragon franchise doing so well
I'm sort of an incurable purist, in some senses, and I think I would ALWAYS prefer just a straight re-release of a game.
The System Shock Remake makes the original obsolete
If they gave re2 remake the re1 remake treatment instead of lesser re4 then that one would make the original obsolete. As it stands re2 original is still my preferred version. Same with re4 remake. Re4 and re4 remake are only the same in that they are called Resident Evil 4. Other than that they're completely different.
Streets of Rage Remake & Sonic P-06 are actual good remakes. Resident Evil 2, 3, 4 and Ratchet & Clank 2016 are bad remakes by definition.
I legit would watch you play twilight scene it lol
Surprised Tony hawk didn’t get a mention
Take a shot every time he says "The original game"
Or when he says "helluvalot better"
RE1 remake is absolutely the best remake ever made.....I mean the original RE1 is like a very funny, clunky, outdated B movie while RE1 Remake is like an Oscar worthy movie.
RE2 doesn't really need a remake but I love both the original RE2 and the RE2 make.
RE3 is good and doesn't need a remake but yeah...no RE3 remake was a lazy remake.
RE4 is so good id really doesn't need a remake just like RE2.
id add mario kart 8 deluxe + booster course pass
also twilight
Persona 3 original is still my favorite for the simple reason of the original voices don’t get me wrong the new cast is great but the original well always be my favorite
Honestly, videogame remakes can't, won't & should never make the original 'obsolete' because there will always be someone who enjoys that original videogame even if a remake is considered 'definitive'.
Look at Yakuza Kiwami, which is more of a reimaging of Yakuza due to the implementation of Yakuza 0 mechanics.
Playing P3R rn, it's such a quality Remake 👌
Missing content tho
@@The_MEMEphis the answer is shit bro

@@The_MEMEphisit’s coming in few mounts oh just gotta wait
I’m surprised the SpongeBob battle for bikini bottom remake wasn’t on here 🤔
Tempting for sure but decided to pass this time around if I do a part 2 I’m sure it’ll show up
Gotta agree, Halo 1 anniversary is just awful. They completely killed the vibe with that. Halo 2, on the other hand, clearly got all of the love.
Nah i have to really disagree with a bunch of them especially Kiwami 2
Kiwami 2 is more of a Yakuza 6 but better, than really is a remake of Yakuza 2, first thing is the combat where in Yakuza 2 you have some of the most satisfying combat in the series, which led to a bunch of foundations which the next games would improve (Or make it worse), Yakuza Kiwami 2 has the same combat of 6 which although i like it, it really is totally different and not as fun as the original game since it wasn't until judgement that they found a good path to Dragon Engine combat.
Demons Souls being here was a huge miss. Have you played the OG at all?
Og re1 will never be obsolete. Fight me about it
I 100% get the sentiment but I personally wouldn't say the originals become obsolete. To me here will always be a charm in some of the original games with the low poly graphics. Not rly nostalgia cause some of these I played as an adult. There’s also usually little things the remake never got right. Some games though yes, just the remake will suffice.
U get it P3 Reload is gooooooooooooddd 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑
Best remake ever is persona 3 reload
Fable - The lost chapters. Anyone!? 🙃
You cant compare p3r to regular p3 you gotta compare it to p3p
where's the n sane trilogy and crash team racing: nitro fueled?
I'm in the very small minority who prefer the original PS1 Resident Evil over REmake... but I'm not gonna lie: Remake is so well made
Why do you prefer the original
@@The_MEMEphis Nostalgia, probably.
i would put ff7 remake to the list too! great video overall
I'm gonna say it, link's awakening remake>the gbc version
But Persona 3 Reload is piss easy on merciless difficulty
The original is better because the game doesn't beat itself
Just some constructive criticism- the preface is way too long and kind of rambling. It feels unfocused and like you’re just saying the same thing but phrased differently several times. I would personally try to avoid that kind of repetition, even if you’re not scripting word for word and want a kind of extemporaneous vibe (which it seems you do).
Demon Souls remake does not make the original obsolete.
Twilight 😳
Is Sleeping Dogs on ps5?
ps4 version does exist
my fav movie is twilight
Absolutely disagree with Demon's Souls Remake. The original clears
Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Twilight
-gears of war ultimate edition
-Metal gear solid twin snakes
-halo ce anniversary
-shadow of the colossus
-last of us part 1
-final fantasy crisis core
OG Demons Souls is better imo.
Wtf dead space remake is totally diferent!!! Two games are worth!!
Demon’s souls shouldn’t be there.
Demon's Souls? Really?
Pokemon heartgold and soulsilver.
Think you're wrong on the dead space
They pretty much watered down the art style of spyro.
Demon souls remake? 💀 🤡 😂
Cope harder
Or he has And it’s his opinion don’t get so pressed
@Alebro2ish you are free to be stupid
You are just a nostalgic kid. Demon's souls remake is better in every aspect. Demon's souls 2009 looks terrible right now lol.
@@issi529 I bought myself a second hand PS3 last year for some exclusives as I've never had one before.
No remake makes the original “obsolete” lol bad take, if it wasn’t for the original masterpiece, there would be no such thing as a remake. Everybody is just spoiled and conditioned to want new all the time, but originals will never be obsolete, in video games, music, movies, etc.
Why would you play the original demon souls when the remake is better in every way, same thing with resident evil
Why you so piss it his opinion
It's not like I don't respect the originals, but to be fair why should I intentionally play an older and inferior version of a game, when a much better and accessible version is readily available?
@@Nicholasmcmath-cr1xl He doesn't seem to be respecting opinions, when he called the video a bad take or when he called the people who thinks different from him as spoilt and conditioned, so why should his opinions be respected?
