Fun fact… the starter was named Treecko because PaPaSea wrongly interpreted me saying Treecko as what to call the pokemon. It was in fact a lagged answer to who should he choose. Either way, I got my wish.
I did something similiar with a favorite pokemon. My friend loves mamoswine and wanted me to catch one. Problem was i was playing gen 2, and mamoswine didn't exist yet. So i caught a piloswine and nicknamed it mamoswine. Stupid but i love that mammoth

I did this but I leveled my Blaziken to like... 30ish, 40ish, before having enough rare candies to go to 100. I wanted 100 before the first gym, to shock Roxanne. It is an intoxicating power. Like a god, or a force of nature, unstoppable. But now you inspired me to do it to some standard first route fodder.

Twitch chat was wrong about the math. I'm pretty sure it works out like this:
You have a 10% chance for pick up to trigger and 10% that it'll be a rare candy. Since you need to hit both to get your rare candy, it's 0.1 * 0.1 = 0.01 or a 1% change to get a rare candy from a single Zigzagoon.
The chance to miss this 1% six times in a row is 0.99^6 or 94.1%. Thus, the chance you get at least one rare candy is one minus this, so you have a 5.9% chance to get one or more rare candies.
The average number of candies to expect from 100 battles is then likely a bit over that since some of that 5.9% of the time you'll be getting multiple. I'd guess in the 6-8 range. Calculating that exact number is possible, i believe, but it's trickier than I care to calculate for a random TH-cam comment. :P

This is also wrong btw. He originally messed up when when he said 47% chance to roll a drop. It’s actually 60% so ur right. 1% chance to roll a rare candy per zigzagoon per encounter. Meaning there is a 6% chance every time. I don’t know if u understand how statistics works, but just because 6 items are being rolled at once doesn’t mean ur gonna gain any more than the average likely. Just as u can gain 2 rare candies with a single encounter you can also go double odds dry. This math is really really simple. 1% chance per zig per encounter. If u want a certain amount of rare candies just take that number for example u want 65 rare candies so take 65 and multiply it 16.66666 repeated. This means on average it’ll take 1083.333 repeated battles to gain 65 rare candies
Forgot to say the 16.6666 repeated comes from taking 100/6 because it’ll take 16.6666 battles to gain 100% on odds. As that would be the average.
Are the drops within the 10% category evenly-distributed? Because if they are, then it’s a 1.666…% chance per battle to get a Rare Candy since there are 6 items in the category, no?
@@maximum.collecting I assumed those were 10% each not 10% for one of those items. Otherwise I don't think it added up to 100%.

15:51 the math is for at least one rare candy each encounter and doesn’t account for the small chance to get multiple rare candies from a single encounter
1-(0.99)^6=0.0585, so if that 4.7% is right then there's a 5.85-4.7 = 1.15% chance that more than 1 of them pick up a rare candy

I've actually done this like 5 times when I was a kid. I remember having a Bkaziken at 100 and Breloom at 70 before getting the first Badge.
Ruby and Sapphire are the gens I retired from Pokémon, but I came back because of Black and white!

I hate the gen 5 exp change. People LOVE gen 5, but that's one element that always irritates me a lot. At least, other additions added in gens after it make up for it. Audino doesn't negate this. Tbh, they should've had the vs seeker.

I wonder if using your starter would have been faster than having the extra Zigzagoon. All the starters have the medium slow EXP group, which takes less exp to level up than Zigzagoon's medium fast until level 68, so you would end up at a higher level from battling with the same amount of experience. My guess is you would only be about 2 levels higher, so it wouldn't be worth it.
that might have been faster but then I wouldn’t have a level 100 pickup pokemon to pickup rare candies in emerald
But one less pickup pokemon, not sure how that changes the odds

This is my problem with people saying Nuzlockes are difficult... The ruleset doesn't have level caps making Nuzlockes a joke if you just grind levels
Hardcore nuzlockes have a level cap but regular nuzlockes aren’t nearly as difficult
