    Bib: "I know these numbers are figurative, but I thought it would be interesting to translate them literally"
    Oh, yeah, that could be a little confusing for people down the line, but they'll probably also guess it's a matter of different number bases
    Bib: "I also decided to keep 'young dragon' instead of using its intended meaning of 'child'... and I don't have a word for dragon so I changed it to an alien called a flesh tearer (baby)"
    .... you just wanted to sow chaos, didn't you?
    Bib: "and I can tell this is supposed to be broom, but I chose to translate it as **sounds of jello in a garbage disposal**"
    Yep.

      It's the annual conlang relay. Ndăkaga is a conlang made by George Corley; Biblaridion translated a text in it into his conlang Ilothwii, then passed it on to somebody else to translate out of Ilothwii into one of their conlangs.

    The sentence sounds like a refence to the Disney short from Fantasia: "the sorcerer's apprentice", where Mickey as the apprentice is tasked to gather water while the sorcerer is gone. Mickey then animates a broom to do his task for him which ends badly as he can't stop the broom.

    Where I'm from there is the mathematic linguistic olympiad respected as one of the most important olympiad, which in my opinion is the best competition in public schools there is. It basically makes you figure out how to translate or use some language without understanding them. It's basically a logic usage competition and very similar to this

    I don't know if Biblaridon himself will read this comment, but still I want to say that he is like a sensei for me, I watched many series of his videos: feature focus, conlang case study, alien biosphere, conlang showcase, how to make a language and so on. To tell you the truth, it's a shame that I have to write this comment in a translator because of my incomplete knowledge of English, but still I just love this channel, without it I probably would never have gotten into conlangery, never learned so many facts about biology and linguistics as I did here. I just admire this man's conlangs, when I see what he does and hear what he says I think "He sure knows his stuff". This channel doesn't deserve this many subscribers... It's completed far and a heck of a lot more than just 140k!!!

    I know you don't like conlangs based on real languages, but this would be neat to try with Lithaiach, an evolution of gaulish into a medieval celtic stage, except in an alternate world where the only real world language family it has contact (and only through long distance trade) is Canaanite semitic through something like Carthaginian Phoenician (or Punic)

      In this sense a relay is where something is passed off between different individuals. In track and field some races are done this way with a baton that is passed of between runners till it crosses the finish line.

    • @randomguy-tg7ok
      @randomguy-tg7ok 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@NickuNma As something of a further explanation which hopefully won't confuse you:
      "To Relay" as a verb means effectively "to take something and pass it on".
      Thus, "Relay" as a noun means either A) A situation in which relaying is done (such as with this Conlang Relay) or B) Something which relays - in other words, something which receives something and passes it further on.
      All of this is not to be confused with re-lay ("to lay (down), again"). "Relay" and "Re-Lay" aren't related.

    2:00 As someone who translated 100 verses of Middle-High German into Modern Standard German, I can say that one should never do literal translations, but should try to get to the underlying _meaning_ of what one is translating. Especially important, one needs to translate idioms in one language to the corresponding idiom in the target language. Otherwise one gets nonsense. Which is fine if creating some nonsense for fun is the intention.
    _[edited because Bib felt attacked, and I value him too much to leave something he felt insulted by]_

    • @Biblaridion
      @Biblaridion  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I tried my best, but I’m sorry that I apparently did such a bad job that you felt the need to go to all the videos later on in the relay and advise them to blame me for how mangled everything became.

    • @John_Weiss
      @John_Weiss 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Biblaridion I've clearly insulted you. I apologize. I'll delete all of those other comments if you want me to.
      I thought you said that you were were intentionally throwing a spanner in the works to make things interesting.
      And the main thing in your leg that mangled stuff later on so very severely _was not_ your translation work, _or anything that you did,_ but was the Major Mismatch between the language before you and your conlang. Going from a language written for _dragons_ to one from a very well crafted world with a lot of backstory and culture _where nothing whatsoever like a dragon exists at all_ was destined to introduce major changes.
      And, really, the major scrambler wasn't even you, but I think the next language in the relay, which didn't have a word for "magic" IIRC? Taking a small tale that's _about magic_ and translating it into a language with no word for "magic" was going to completely mess things up.
      Again, I apologize for insulting you and will delete my other comments if you want me to.

    • @John_Weiss

      @@Biblaridion I actually respect you a great deal, and am truly ashamed that you feel attacked. So, I've gone through the entire list and edited my comments so that the tone to make it less of an attack. I also changed my comment here to be more of a general warning about the exercise of translation. And I added a remark about why I made these edits, admitting to insulting you. Again, I'm very, very sorry for doing that to you.

      @Biblaridion But that's just it … I don't think you "screwed it up". By the end, I thought that you were being a tricksy Chaos Gremlin, making some choices that would intentionally throw a monkey wrench into the relay for added fun.
