One thing I noticed about Mario Kart DS’ retro tracks; Since this was the 5th game, there would only be SNES, N64, GBA, and GCN retro tracks. And they were put in game order for each retro cup. Did anyone else notice that? Or was it just me?
You’re not the only one. I also knew that a long time ago. Starting with Wii, it had DS tracks. With 7, Wii tracks reappear. With 8/Deluxe, 3DS tracks appear
Super Mario Kart Tracks: Mario Circuit 1 Donut Plains 1 Koopa Beach 2 Choco Island 2 Mario Kart 64 Tracks: Moo Moo Farm Frappe Snowland Choco Mountain Banshee Boardwalk Mario Kart Super Circuit Tracks: Peach Circuit Bowser Castle 2 Luigi Circuit Sky Garden Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Tracks: Luigi Circuit Baby Park Mushroom Bridge Yoshi Circuit
Honest Mario kart ds has a lot of great retro tracks I love that only thing is very minor they remove some of the originals like my favorite in mushroom bridge they took out the boosts on top of the bridge but I give it to Nintendo they did a excellent job bringing the retros to the ds it makes it feel so nostalgic.
for a mario kart game in 2005, it didnt re-use that many music tracks, only 4 Figure-8 Circuit/Mario Circuit Waluigi Pinball/Wario Stadium GBA Peach Circuit/GBA Luigi Circuit GCN Luigi Circuit/GCN Yoshi Circuit
I know mario kart DS just used some of the simplist tracks when making retro courses. And this was before when Retro tracks were improved instead of just Remade. But I got to give it to them, this game still bops.
time to compare the retro tracks. (for most of these changes I got help from the mariowiki) SNES: obviously, most of them got larger and 3d-er. mario circuit 1: it's mostly faithful to the original, obviously the walls are actually walls instead of flat blocks. that's all I can say, most of the SNES and GBA tracks are gonna be like this. donut plains 1: instead of the flat blocks on the bridge, it has girders that match the bridge more. the pipes are also green instead of orange. choco island 2: the colors are more vibrant, and the bumps are now 3d. koopa beach 2: the cheep cheeps have their modern appearance, and that's all I can say about this track. well, that was simple. what about n64? N64: most parts look the same, but there are some changes worth noting. moo moo farm: the track got narrower, and the monty moles have their new design. the Nintendo logo is gone, and the two bridges actually look like it's made of stone. frappe snowland: looks mostly the same. the snowmen got a redesign, that's all I can see. choco mountain: the road looks less rough and has straight lines that follow the path, and most of the signs are replaced like the Yoshi sign that was replaced with a YoshiKart sign instead. the fences are gone even in trial mode, and the rocks are better modeled. and lastly, the hills at the end are farther away from each other. banshee boardwalk: the water is brighter, and the cheep cheep was changed to a bubba, the boos have their modern design (they still look similar), and the bats are replaced with swoops. that's a lot of changes. let's go back to mode 7 tracks! GBA: it's like the SNES tracks but boring-er. peach circuit: again, the track is faithful to the original and the flat blocks are walls. the road is darker, and for some unknown reason, the castle in the background is flipped. bowser castle 2: you can now drive on the walls, the thwomps have their modern appearance, and the ramps are now dash panels. luigi circuit: the rain looks much better, the warehouses now say "00" instead of "64" and "65", and the blimp logo changed. sky garden: again, the blimp logo has changed, an added shortcut right after that, and the ramps are replaced with dash panels. not a lot to be honest. it was super dull. but what about double dash? GCN: they didn't do these tracks justice in my opinion. luigi circuit: the sunflowers and pipes are gone, the chain chomp is less shiny, and the blimp in the sky is nowhere to be found. baby park: the rollercoaster is gone, and the laps are now 5 instead of 7. mushroom bridge: the tunnels are green and red on each side instead of each tunnel being green and red, you can't go on top of the bridge anymore, and most of the vehicles are replaced with shroom ridge vehicles. basically worse version of the stage! yoshi circuit: immediately, the piranha plants aren't in pipes anymore, the arcs that represent yoshi's fingers aren't there anymore, the yoshi tunnel's windows are larger, the yoshi helicopter is gone, daisy cruiser is gone, and the shortcut is gone. wow. what a downgrade. yeah, most shortcuts are gone, every GCN course is downgraded, but it's not because they were lazy, it's just hardware limitations. i hope you liked this, if you guys want to correct me, please leave a reply, and i'll edit it. thanks, and I'll see you in the wii retro tracks!

Right here is complete proof why mario kart DS is the worst game in the series.
Imo, it's one of the best in the series because of Mission Mode and the ability to customize your emblem.
