Karen was incredible and for 40 years I thought I'd never hear that pure voice again but then I heard Tori Holub on TH-cam singing The Carpenters' hit Merry Christmas, Darling and you would swear that Karen has been reincarnated as a blonde!!
I'm a little surprised you've never heard of the Carpenters. They were a global success in the 70s. So many hits and fans around the world even still today.
Actually, the song is about a groupie that had a one night stand with the guitarist she had a crush on. He told her things knowing he was never going to see her again but she believed the sweet nothings that he said.
The thing about Karen, is that she made you feel the lyrics that she was singing, and she could touch your soul with her voice. She is considered the best female singer, by many, and that's from the last 40 years, when she left us, at age 32. Thanks for posting.
Karen was the real deal. Beside the pop music dimension, her and her brother were virtuoso musicians, Karen drummer/percussionist and her brother an extraordinary keyboardist.
If you were driving home and arrived just when a Carpenters song came on the radio, you would sit in your car until the song finished. Then sigh, then climb out of the car.
Often sad when she sings, but always a big smile on her face when playing the drums which she was very good at. Seems like everyone uses the same three letter word when hearing Karens voice. WOW! Especially when hearing it for the first time. Richard and Karen were both very talented. They and their band mates blessed us with some wonderful and timeless music. Hope you do more! Thank you for the nice reaction.
One of Karens great ones. Her voice is timeless. Yes Delany and Bonnie had the original, co written by Leon Russell, but the Carpenters definitely had the huge hit with it.
Thank you for your wonderful reaction video. Dominica hit the meaning of the song perfectly!!! It's about a girl who idolizes a rock star on the radio, a Superstar. She goes on to meet him at a concert and then 'she' falls in love with him. Karen Carpenter was an amazing vocalist ... and a drummer. Although she and her brother performed some 'cover' songs, Richard wrote some very good songs, too.
Karen was incredible and for 40 years I thought I'd never hear that pure voice again but then I heard Tori Holub on TH-cam singing The Carpenters' hit Merry Christmas, Darling and you would swear that Karen has been reincarnated as a blonde!!!
Possibly thee best female vocalist on planet earth ever . . . Karen had a heaven sent gift and sadly the angels now have her in heaven singing for them. But I love your genuine reactions to these video’s so keep on doing what you’re doing.
Great reaction! Karen could sing the phone book and I'd be just enthralled the whole time. Her voice is like satin - the smoothest, most effortless sounds you've ever heard! Regretfully gone WAY too soon! RIP. What's also amazing is that, for as incredible a vocalist she is, she is an even better drummer! Honestly - check some earlier videos of her behind the kit, and you'll see another effortless talent! Her brother, Richard, is a great pianist and composer. Talent abound in that family!!
She puts everything into her songs. She feels the part when she sings her songs. Thats why she was one of the best. I was 9 years old when I 1st bought my 45 record that my mom said I could buy. And the Carpenters were my 1st favorites in music, atleast to buy a record. She died so young 32 years old. i was so sad!
What a voice!!! Such great range and depth. I could listen to this song for hours and hours. IMO maybe the greatest female singer of all time. I guess some people might go with Streisand or Cher.
This song is about a young (perhaps teenage) girl who fell in love with a singer she heard on the radio..."it's just the radio". For some reason, she took the lyrics of the song to heart and believed every word. Back then, it was an easy thing to do for both girls and boys. It amounted to having a "crush" on a performer, even though we all knew it would never amount to anything.
The Carpenters had a dozen huge Top Ten hits including 3 #1 Songs.Very popular from 1969 to 1975. Karen had a beautiful silky smooth as honey voice ❤❤❤
Karen’s gorgeous contralto voice that is hauntingly beautiful and Richard (her Brother) his amazing compositions and piano/musical genius. A great Carpenters song. Karen’s voice always connects emotionally with her voice. Her voice can make one cry. It’s a song about her falling for a rock star who’s not coming back. ❤❤
Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. And she was a terrific drummer. That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "We've Only Just Begun", "Rainy Days & Mondays", "(They Long To Be) Close To You", "For All We Know", "Goodbye To Love", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)", "I Need To Be In Love" & so many more.
Hello Andrei and Dominika another great reaction Karen had a beautiful voice , this song is about a woman who falls for a rock star, has a tryst with him, but then in a bout of delusion awaits his return, apparently falling for it when he said he loved her . Karen was a great singer like Judith Durham of the seekers they both had voices of angels best wishes stay safe and well keep up the great work and we will follow 💙
Karen was incredible and for 40 years I thought I'd never hear that pure voice again but then I heard Tori Holub on TH-cam singing The Carpenters' hit Merry Christmas, Darling and you would swear that Karen has been reincarnated as a blonde!!!
Sir Paul McCartney one called Karen "the greatest vocalist of the twentieth century". I tend to agree with him. Her voice was a godsend to all of us. I cried when she died and often still cry whenever I hear her voice.
This is a song about a groupie who fell in love with the artist. The chorus says it all. "You told me you loved me, baby, you said you would come back this way again baby"
The two of you are so fun to watch on these reactions. Therapy!! Karen Carpenter...RIP She played drums in their beginnings. I think Luther Vandross recorded this as well.

This song written by the late great Leon Russell. He was a great performer, session man and writer. Highly accomplished and admired by his peers and fans alike.
Good job hit that one right out of the ballpark. She is singing about some singer who she never met, bit sings love songs and she imagines that he is singing to her personally. And she makes up in her mind a fictional romance between her and him.
Always, but always an enriching experience listening to them. Such a genuine loving couple. Entertaining too. And Andrea? I absolutely adore your wife Dominica. Really really special . Profound, warming nsights she has too. Brilliant
Karen Carpenter what can you say. The most majestic voice ever created and best female drummer ever. If you read about her she was very real, kind, gorgeous, Nobody ever like Karen. Carpenters tore up the music charts in the 70's. You will like "Goodbye To Love" the first ballad with a guitar solo, put in by her genius brother Richard. They were/are known around the world in their time.

When the Carpenters heard the song it was 1970. Richard Carpenter watched Bette Midler perform the cover on The Tonight Show. The Carpenters cover of “Superstar” became the most famous version of the song. Yet, the duo had to change a certain lyric to fit their clean image. Richard Carpenter had switched “And I can hardly wait to sleep with you again” to “And I can hardly wait to be with you again”. Richard received a Grammy nomination for “Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist” due to his work on “Superstar.” Karen Carpenter had nailed the first recording of “Superstar” in one take. Richard Carpenter had scribbled the lyrics on a napkin and she nailed it.
She was such a nice person. They did not have a lot of time compared to many groups. Karen always fought bulimia. You can see in some pictures. She is much too skinny. It finally killed her anorexia. People were very sad here when that happened. Everyone agreed. Karen had a beautiful voice. When Whitney Houston said you were a great singer……that’s a compliment.
Thanks guys, The Carpenters had many hits in the 70's. Rainy Days and Monday's and Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft is another one that can always do with a good reaction from nice people like yourselves.
In 1984, I fell in love with John Taylor of Duran Duran, and I haven't given up hope that one day he'll come for me. I've told my husband that he can't come with us :)

One of the most beautiful voices ever. This was one of the artist my mom listen to getting ready for work while I was getting ready for school in the 70s. The voice of an angel.
Oh you two are so cute and fun to watch! Karen can throw many vibes, probably the melancholy vibe most powerful. For a flawless assortment, check out Yesterday Once More, Close to You, We've Only Just Begun, and Rainy Days and Mondays.
IMHO, Karen had the best Female vocals Ever! I wish so badly that Aurora would do this cover of Superstar. I think she would knock it out of the park! RIP Karen, never forgotten!

Oh yeah, The Carpenters, brother and sister (Richard Lynn Carpenter and Karen Anne Carpenter). They signed contract with A&M Records on April 1969. 6 months later, they debut in their first studio album: Ticket To Ride. Sadly, Karen passed away on February 4, 1983 from heart failure due to complications of anorexia Nervosa. Hope this info could find helpful. If you need more info about the Carpenters, let me know.

Beautiful voice she sadly passed away at I believe 32 from anorexia Nervosa, I wish she knew she was perfect 💕🙏
Yes ... The long term effects ... she was on the road to gaining weight when she had a heart attack ... It's very hard on the body ....
Rest high on that mountain ❤

Just because someone said she was chubby 💔

An absolutely ICONIC voice, such a loss at such a young age.
A beautiful singer/songwriter you should check out is Raye. Her song Ice Cream Man is haunting and emotional.
Actually, the song is about a groupie that had a one night stand with the guitarist she had a crush on. He told her things knowing he was never going to see her again but she believed the sweet nothings that he said.
This voice needs no words she is perfection personified such a loss to music at such a young age her like will never be replicated ❤️❤️

Yes , it felt like she was singing to you ... or FROM your heart ...
Karen had the best voice of her era. Period.
A great voice that was hobbled by her material. Never challenged herself or strayed from her saccharine approach. But impeccable voice. A real talent.

My favorite Carpenters song by THEE GIRL who taught angels how to sing.
