The television show was called "Family Matters", and the instrument Steve Urkel used to play on the show was the "Accordion". Hehe, he used to play what is called "Polka Music" on it all the time. That's not the same instrument that you see Jazzie B playing in this video, however. That instrument is actually called a "keytar" (or a "strap-on-keyboard", or a "remote keyboard", or "MIDI controller"), which is a combination of a keyboard and a guitar. They typically operate with their own synthesizer engine; and just as an electric guitar must be connected to an amplifier in order to be heard, the keytar must be connected to an amplifier or PA system to produce sound. The accordion, however, is more of a combination of a piano and a wind instrument and does not need any external amplification system to produce sounds; and it resembles more of a portable "pipe organ" which blows air through pipes.

A bit of history lesson, this was when house was on a come up and I’m talking about house music. House music spawned so many different genres. This type of music, downtempo, was one of them. This group is from Europe. Over there, they loved absolutely loved house, dance music, before there was even a term called EDM. They took it to a whole other level.

    • @mrstush2040

A bit of history revision from someone who was there & got the t-shirt..from the Soul II Soul shop..in London..
Does this tune have a 4/4 beat..& no snare?Even w/a snare,it's still not happening;in no way can this be considered House music or any sub-genre off of it;lazy & uninformed categorization that's been going on for almost a quarter of a century.
There was a super-fertile atmosphere of musical creativity in & around those times, aiding in the cross-pollenization that spawned many genres/sub-genres of music..so much so,that the press/music journo's had a hard time keeping up @ first, they got lazy & confused,so they lumped alot of things together for ease, and it's stuck eversince(& pissed me off since then, too),hence what u've read & mistakenly quoted..house didn't spawn this;it's the fusing of soul & hip-hop through a reggae filter of a group birthed through Afro-Caribbean sound-system culture & London's vibrancy of musical tradition, aspect & output:the Sound Of The Funki Dred,as they called it.
We love music,so damn right we take it to a whole other level..that's why this all came from knowledge in my memory
PS Here's another one of my favourites that gets mis-categorized as House, isn't 4/4 & does have a breakbeat:
The Blow Monkeys - La Passionara
Check it out & let me know what u think of it,Jose

I'm glad I grew up in the late 70s and 80s, and 90s. We had the best music, we had no wokeness, we were allowed to play on the monkey bars with no supervision, all the dumb shit we did was not all logged on social media, all the venomous ex girlfriends had no way of doxxing or attacking us via social media. We had creative movies with strong male heroes and music videos were creative and catchy as hell.

This song Is more late 80's than 90's. As someone who was in their 20's back then we had our own problems. There were artist with different styles, but the major record lables started promoting whatever was the last song to make them most money . That's why now we only get one style of rap in major markets. You should react to more females of the 80s-90's in both Hip Hop, and Country.

The bass line is everything. That’s the first thing I noticed in this video....that it wasn’t there.

Graduated '89 and soon after went to Marine Corps boot camp. After that, it was all about clubbing, drinking and living the single life. Back then, you really did have to know how to dance and not just grind and bob your heads... I really miss those days but so happy that I experienced it... late '80s - early '90s

One of my favorite groups from the 1980s. Can't forget the SOS Band, Shalamar, Midnight Star, Ike and Tina Turner, Patrice Rushen, En Vogue and so many more from a whole different Era....

I agree the energy back then was amazing. I am from this era and so many good memories. The music was amazing. Please check out more of this style of music as well. The rap back then is the best nothing compares to today. Everyone had talent and their own lane, no one doing the same thing at all.
