- It's been 35 years since Florence Griffith Joyner set the women's world record in the 200 metes at the 1988 Olympics.
Can Shericka Jackson break this record in 2023?

Jacksons Time was honestly the most impressive performance in the entire event.
True!
Sure, but Femke Bol's anchor leg of the women's 4x400 was pretty impressive too!
Compared to the "what we are used to" yes, but if we take off our massively spoiled glasses in the Shot Put, the 23.51 from Crouser, winning by over 1 METER, 2nd longest toss ever in history, was up there too.
We are just so insanely spoiled with Crouser doing his Bolt'ing all over Shot Put at the moment! - Enjoy Ryan while he is here and on top.
That or Ryan Crousers canon ball

Come on Shericka we are rooting for you. You can do it!!!❤
She can break the world record the ❤🎉
Nah, she couldn't.
Shericka is a beast. I have no doubt she is going to break that record
I don't think so.
I doubt it. Soon the authorities will discover the new wave performance enhancing Jamaica has been getting around testing with. Funny how Shelly Ann and Herrah's times are SIGNIFICANTLY slower this year🙄 because they both know it's not so stealth anymore. Shericka is just gambling and risking it all but, sooner than later the truth will come out. I doubt she (Shericka) will live to see 45.
May only take one minute to break the world record and earn 100k. It took years of determination, practice, blood, sweat, tears, setbacks and dedication to make it to that one minute
Flo-Jo's 21.34 was made with a +1.5 wind if I'm not mistaken. Shericka Jackson's 21.41 had no wind at all. With the same wind as Flo-Jo, she would have beaten the world record
She did not have that much wind stop listening to all these reporters they keep adding things like she was taking drugs. The wind was higher being a loud question. They waited a little longer to start her timer. All this is bull. She ran the race, fair and square, and if and when Sharika Jackson breaks this record of the 200 m, what will they be saying about her for the next 10 to 15 years lies and more lies? I hope she breaks the record.
This is what bothers me about those winds with Flo Jo. If it's true, it's been a generational difference maker.
Yea all she needs is a good wind I think she will do it
That's what I call "blah blah blah". The race is over and your speculation won't change the result. She ran 21.41, it's all that matters.
@@danle3181 sorry if you miss stated what I said I’m not saying Sharika Jackson did not deserve her 21.41 because she did. She is a great runner, but what I did say and what I am saying is Flo Jo had the same track in the same running shoes or spikes that they make today I am so positive that Flo Jo’s time would’ve been faster than her 21.34 and in about 10 or 15 years the tracks and the spikes will be better than what they are today which I mean faster so whoever in 10 or 15 years will definitely catch up or pass Flo Jo’s time.
Shericka jackson is the one and only one that can break the 200m world record let's go jacko🏅🏅🏅💯💯💯🥇🥇🥇😘😘😘🥰🥰🥰👀👀👀
Shericka will not attempt the world record now. And rightfully shouldn’t . The already peak the muscle is fully stretch out .
Nope. Not today.
But she's still amazing! Love to watch her sprint!
I’ll take 21.33🙏🙏🙏Thank you Miss Jackson for being awesome & humble🫡🫡🫡
I honestly believe Shericka can get that 200m World Record, but I truly believe she may be fatigued if she attempts this at Zurich on Thursday. Even if she runs it again at Prefontaine for the diamond league final, it will be tough to get it.
She is the only woman who could beat that 200m world record right now, Elaine is too much of a question mark right now going into next year !!!
All she needs is the right day with the right tailwind at this point. Worlds was way too hot and the track too slow and those unpredictable headwinds
She needs some rest , before she tries to break that record by Flo Jo
Hopefully it happens at Prefontaine! The track is fast, probably her best chance!
Elenor has years before she retire she will break the record
World record times require all the things you mentioned…but the athlete also has to be mentally and physically ready. Everything can appear to be 100%, but you can never be sure.
Let's go Shericka 🎉
Based on Shericka's 200m time, she should be 10.5 100m sprinter. I think her running form is what's preventing her from breaking the 200m world record. She lopes along with just quick turnovers, but a bit higher knee lifts will more likely make a longer stride length and cover a bit more distance with each stride. She is a quarter miler turned sprinter, so her running style and habits are probably not so easy to change. With fresh legs and a bit more competition, she will go sub 21.40. I had predicted 21.39 for the world championship but came up short.
It is being reported that the temperature will be in the 50's, so that may not be conducive to running fast times. Budapest was in the 90's.
There is a quantitive difference in the quality of track, spikes used by Flo Jo and even track uniform all of which was not up to the standard of today in comparison. Even the competition was not close. That is why Flo Jo will be the GOAT irrespective of what any Pundit's comments.
Do a video on neeraj Chopra. He is the first javelin reigning olympic and world champion since andreas thorkildsen in 2008 and 2009
Flo Jo is legendary. I definitely feel that she was ahead of her time, and help revolutionize track and field for women. May she rest in peace. Seizures are no joke.
Too many question signs and not enough clearance at any level on her part! When did she get sick?
her legs were huge & muscular like a man!
Shericka has had a long season so it’s unlikely that she will break the WR but she definitely has the ability to do it! ShaCarri will win the 100m tho.
The second 200m is a huge difference and it's because FloJo could run a 48.1 relay leg. Her speed endurance has to be far better. Sherika may have improved her top end spend at the 100m but improving her 400m would push her 200m times more so IMO. All the best to her breaking he record either way.
I understand your point but Shericka DID move down to the 1 and 2 after previously being a 400m athlete so I would say her strength/endurance isnt anything to slouch on
I would be an amazing sight to see Shericka break the record as well.
Come on shericka!!! You can do it!!!!! ❤
FloJo was on another level in the 200. while I personally think her PB in the 100m is 10.62, her 200m PB of 21.34 is something next level. To be able to run 10.2 in a second 100m, despite the wind, in a 200m, is really hard. the one major advantage she has over the women right now that we can prove, is her form. FloJo had a form that was conducive for relaxation, in a way that slowed her down a lot less than it does with Shericka. Jackson has power, she has speed, but the balance between those two things is what she will need to find to strike that 21.33. She can do it if she shows up with her Budapest 200 pacing, in a plus 1.5 wind hands down. We are waiting
FloJo was on drugs, and she retired early bc of that.
@@spanishlessons4075Facts.
FloJo only ever bettered 21.75 twice for 200m. Where her only two really fast times were on the same day at the Olympics in the Semi and Final, and both were with very favorable tailwinds, with her 21.56 having a +1.7 tailwind, and her 21.34 having a +1.3 tailwind. If Shericka, or even Sharcarri gets the right conditions with a solid legal tailwind, the record will go
@@Vinchiamo No not Sha'carri. Not today. We'll see what tomorrow holds.
@@spanishlessons4075 You were there in 1988 and YOU supplied her with the Drugs I guess 😳😱
Stop clickbaiting. Really annoying!
fr. good videos tho
Agreed!
I think Shericka will do 21.29 in Zurich and 21.27 in Eugene.
No.
I don't think it will be broken this year. If there is going to be a new world record then it's far more likely to come at next year's olympics.
I agree that is the same thing cross my mind
We love Jackson. There is a reason why the American Flo-Jo record stood for so long . Shericka better mind she hurts herself . She was so visibly exhausted after the Budafest 200m run . All now her body may still need recuperation . Can someone remind Shericka what Miss Flo-Jo died as a result of again. So Shericka do be kind to yourself. Do what you have but do not over do it .
FYI Flo-Jo was born with a Congenital Electrical Brain condition which results in Epilepsy for some individuals. Research has shown that 20% of the World’s population are carriers of this Gene but some may never develop the resultant Epilepsy and others may. Some of those who develop Epilepsy may die of it and others Will live with it if managed properly. Sadly Flo-Jo had that Epileptic Seizure and choked on her own tongue as it blocked her airway while she was sleeping. So sad 😞 🙏🏾
Flo Jo died of a seizure in her sleep, and I really do not believe it was because of track a seizure can be bought on by mini things so please don’t say she die because she was running Shrek and pushing it that’s just like the story of someone singing She was taking some kind of drugs to build her body up. This includes all the muscles I’m through with this issue if Sharika win, she wins if she don’t. Oh well..
🙄
@@kojoharrison630
Thanks for this info, really appreciated. How available is this info. This epilepsy thing is no joke. I had a sister who was plagued with it for decades.
You're most welcome @lloydfrase2801👍; I have a sister who lives with Epilepsy but is managing it very well and knows what the triggers are so avoids them. I hope your sister is ok and I wish her well. You take good care of yourself too and stay safe ❤🙏
I really want het to break it but think it will be next year
I think she can get closer but she was on the floor after that 21.41 AND I think if Elaine keeps at it she is also someone to get even closer. She's the only one to get a legal 10.54
The only thing Sherika needed was a Lil wind. Paris will have just that.
@@frizlebabe3323nope she needs better form.
Y’all talking about a little wing but at this moment any high wind she’s going to miss the record being legit with conditions
@@sir3958nah she ran 21.41 w a headwind of 0.1 while FloJo ran the WR with a tailwind of 1.3. When you do the calculations for what those might be in 0.0 wind conditions, Jackson’s performance is better
This is true
@@heywoodjablome7535 This is pure speculation. Not the same track, no the same weather condition, etc.... There are other factors that have an impact on a race than simply the wind speed. That's why you have to go with the times recorded as long as the wind speed is legal. In a race, there is no "if".
As usual excellent content. In reference to lack of more world records, I was rather surprised that we didn't have some more. My thinking is that high temperatures throughout the meet must have contributed to this. With reference to 200m record for women, a rested Sherica may very do it. I don't know if she would have recovered sufficiently from those several rounds of running in the championships. Let's not forget Sha'carri and the 100m world record. She might just be lurking out there in lane 9!
She is going for that record ❤
i think the main factor will be that she will be well rested and not have qualifying rounds to drain the batteries, after seeing what she did in Budapest after all those rounds and with next to no wind id say the World Record is going down barring any unforeseen injuries and getting a decent start, i really hope she gets it as she has proven she is currently the best 200m womens sprinter of the moment
1:20 THERE WE GO! FINALLY!
the women's 100m should be interesting too. no shelly Ann but sha'carri has what I have named, the flintstone-turnover, I see no other way to describe it. My only fear is that she might get too muscle heavy and fail to maximise her speed, but we will see. She is up against plain, who I'm just happy to see her back on the track and making something of the remainder of the season as she prepare to defend her titles in the City of lights.
The fastest sprinters are pretty muscle heavy. Bolt, Blake, Shelly etc
> the flintstone-turnover,
OMG, yes I see it now, very round like a wheel! Nice name :)
I didn't think Noah Lyles would get close to what he predicted, especially in the 200, and he didn't, but Jackson.... looking forward to seeing what she can do in Zurich tomorrow!
It took time,, effort,, consistency etc etc to qualify 😮😮
Can't wait
Let’s get it!
She’s gonna take it down next year in the Olympics!
These clickbait titles leave no other choice than to ubsub. It’s been a good couple years TRP but I can’t do it anymore 😓
it drives me insane lol
I dont think she will but i hope she does.
I'd love to see Jackson break the WR purely because that'd mean seeing her performing at the absolute peak and that's just awesome to see.
YES!
Some people said the WR should be removed due to drugs, but then about 50% if the records can probably be removed 😅
Shericka will break the WR!
What percentage of the current WRs were achieved in championship finals - or if you prefer - global championship finals?
FloJo ran a 21.56 on the same day before her 21.34 and in her first 100 meters she was 2/3rd's of a second off her WR 10.49 before she really took off. I know nothing about pacing yourself over 200 meters or how much pushing it hard the first 100 will affect your second 100 but I think she could have improved on that time with fresher legs or if she had a legitimate rival.
There is something I notice with track … I am no expert though. Take all this “fresher legs” thing with a grain of salt… sometimes, especially in the shorter sprint, running a fast time warms your muscles up to run an even after time. I’m sure there is some kid of threshold where if you go over you see a negative effect in your subsequent race…but the body recovers incredibly fast. We gave seen many fast semifinal performances then the athlete runs even faster in the finals an hour or two later. I rmember when gabby did her okympic trials and was basically having a PR each round. I feel like sometimes when you go on “fresh legs” your muscles are basically cold and not in that super zone to run a pr. Just my thoughts
@@ajollypanda4175 It depends if there's muscle breakdown or not. It's not like sprinters aren't warming up on the warm up track anyway, so I think you can write off the 'cold' theory. Bare in mind the second best men's 200m of all time was ran not by Bolt but by in a 1 off meet by his training partner I'm forgetting the name of.
@@MrSupplementSceneYohan Blake is his name
Jacko u can do it ,let's go
I do not see that record coming down until 2023 Paris Olympics.
For that lineup I already imagine
Gabby Thomas
Elaine Thompson
ShaCarrie Richardson.
And despite any performance now. Elaine is in PEAK form every Olympics. So I imagine the winning time is going to have to be the world record at this point
? Why js Sherika not mentioned.
@@annmariebusu9924
….. she was not mentioned in my comment because the video is about her.
My comment only stated who needs to be on that lineup for the record to go down.
I wasn’t meaning she’s not included
@sir3958 ok i see.
Personally I would prefer If she broke the record at the Olympics next summer in Paris. Provided that she is 100% healthy
I don't know. I think you are still gonna have to watch Lyles, Tebogo, and Knighton. That could produce a world record. Is the Zurich track known for fast times? If so as long as the weather is right it's possible and with Gabby on her heals Shericka may do it, but I think it's at least another season away. If Shelly Ann was gonna do the 100m I think it would be a bigger deal. Elaine hasn't been herself this year.
In my opinion, Flo Jo's flowless running is so far unmatched. One might speculate on many issues, but how she ran ... just look at it!!! Perfection! Wasn't Jackson "digging" a bit with her arms at the final 50 meters? She unfortunatly looked a little tired those last 50 m. But ... she is close now!!!
Her running style kinda make it looks like she's jogging but in reality she isn't
I have always said that Flo Jos running form was and is still unmatched. I rate Sha Carri Richardson, Elaine Thompson Herah and Sydney McLaughlin Levrones running forms as the best of the current runners.
Not in Zürich, I think. I believe it's too close to the World Championships. How many races did she run in one week? Sure, she didn't have to go all out in the heats and semi finals, but it all accumulates. I'd say next year in Paris.
With the condition she in the world record looks a mere formality 21.30.
Yeah, I seem to forget the tracks back then oh no where is near as fast as the tracks of today so Florence griffin ran a 2134 back then Magine if she had today’s tracks she might be running a 21 flat so probably in 10 or 15 years somebody will break a record cause I’m sure the tracks and 10 or 15 years will be a lot faster then they are today.
she absolutly would not be running 21 flat. Thats bs. Shoes dont do that much.
@@nickryan4346 it’s not the shoes. It’s the way they make the tracks now they are faster and they have more spring in them.
In her 21.34, she stops running hard about 5 meters from the finish line. That alone cost about 0.04-0.05s. A sub 21.2 would be realistic for Flo on todays tracks.
Yes she will, I also think more records maybe broken too
I think she will run a 21.31 WR
We're still waiting though...for that record
❤❤❤
Had Jackson had anyone closing in on her when she did the 21:41 at Budapest the record would've been broken.
Yes
Breaking the record at the World Championships was not going to be easy especially following the grueling rounds of the 100m and 200m events. I would not try to do it the Usain Bolt way, doubling. I would prepare to break the world record at one of the meets like Diamond League (not this upcoming one, the athletes are still exhausted) or one of the invitational meets, where you only have a single and final round.
Also with meeting starting fees and some sponsor ready to dish out $500k for a WR at a DL event, if it is special enough, then maybe save it for that.
Flojo ran 8 races by the time she ran 21.34
She was also on steroids that ended her life. Puhlease
@sfab5039 so was Marion and she got now where close to it. What PED made FloJo ran so fast you idiot. FloJo was clean.
@sfab5039 yes but NO proof she was on them, she probably was but no proof, so unfortunately her world records still stand, if she didn't cheat then well legend if did then screw her period, hopefully we'll find out but unfortunately may NOT!
And retired early because of mandatory testing
@@sfab5039 Flo Jo died in 1998, not 1988 and her biopsy literally shows no signs of performance-enhancing drugs
I think if Shericka run a slower 100m round the cureve then give it her all in the final 100m she will definitely have a chance at the 200m. Maybe 21.31
I was thinking the same also. Coach need to look at the splits. Maybe more endurance training and maybe with fresh legs...
The pay out should be higher for a “World” record
Moinje dis que le revord du 200m femme peut même descendre en dessous des 21,00s . Juste avoir plusieurs paramètres ( vent, la forme de l athlètes, )
Watching this in my Zurich hotel room, flown out here to see her do it (and to hopefully watch Laura Muir kick some botty) so fingers crossed
No one "attempts" a sprint world record. It happens when it have to happen, no one can control that, there are too many parameters implied. A world record is a mix of the athlete physical condition and then all the other stuff (the start, the weather, the wind, the quality of the track, the other athletes, etc etc...).
I’m not doubting her..
Joyner is the best sprinter there has been
Budapest was hot as Hades no wonder not a lot of world records were broken you can understand why the Americans specifically broke the mixed relay record it's summer in the US they had gotten used to hellish temperatures 🤷🏿♀️
Agreed, they were all exhausted, and all have ran faster times except shericka. If they had more rest all would have run faster times.
I don't think Jackson can erase flo Jo's record unless there's a strong wind assisting her.
You mean the same strong wind that assisted flojo... That is still been kept a secret !
Never say never
It's understood that Jackson can't break her record. So it's the fact.
@@kingston13origin271.3 wind so strong 🥱
Was this the first world championships without a WR? (I don’t include the mixed nonsense)
Jamaica: the island of 'SPEED"
It depends how fast the Zurich track is. Personally, I see her having a better chance at breaking the WR at Hayward Field because that track is well known to be exceptionally fast plus has some wind. Either way, we are all rooting for her to do it.
Yeeeeeesssssss
Kipchoge has run a marathon in 1:59:40 I believe.
Hmm interesting, maybe shericka should try saving some effort from her first 100 for the second 100, but I don’t think she has the same top end speed as flo to do that, so maybe she needs the first 100 to be even faster
She needs the first 100m to run faster. No way she is outrunning Flojo on the straightaway. Not even a peak Shericka can do that.
Yes she will break FloJo's 200 meter Record! My Prediction is 21.30 or 21.29 200 meter.
🎉🎉🎉
She's saving it for the Olympics
it would be fitting, that is the stage it was set on
They should offer a million dollar reward for world record.
Right. $100,000 is pennies on the dollar when you compare it other sports.
The newer events are most easily broken;....men's Athletics is a very old sport. Records are already crazy fast, far and high.
Don’t know how you people are hoping she breaks it, she’s a gawd damn bully, laughing her ass off at other sprinters misfortune, it’s all on video too. Flo Jo was a beautiful human being who treated people with respect and was an absolute treasure…..
The truth, is that she will break it but, not rt now. Her body needs to be rested completely. If, she's smart and listens to her body just run to win and when it's time it will come. I predict she will break it in 2024, in the finals in Paris.
I wish but I don’t think she’s ready yet because I heard she’s not feeling 100%
Maybe if Serika didn't run the 100, she might have broken the 200. Just a thought.
Unfortunately, though it cannot be proven with 100 percent certainty, FloJo has the taint of the past… where getting away with steroids was easier.
I hope Shericka Jackson, gets it.. and continues to take the sport in a positive direction
Everything is just speculations. She has been training very hard to get there, but nothing is for certain. She has the potential, yes, but it is something that has to bee seen yet. Maybe next year? who knows. It took 1 or 1/2 years to Florence Griffith-Joyner to reach that level perhaps with the help of performance enhancing drugs (something undetectable at that time). I wish Shericka could brake it, I want it. Maybe next year!!
The world record in question is safe for another 30 years but she can dare to dream!
look
Only one WR record? Have athletes maximized the “benefits” of super shoes or the “benefits” of COVID(fresh legs) season?
Those are two arguments we heard when records were being broken all over the place.
I think it's far more likely athletes weren't getting tested during covid so were able to dope more.
Yes. Shericka can if she run the 200m as if it's 210m with no slowing down for the tape - with knees STILL high!
Shacarri is more likely to break flojos record she just need a Shelly Anne start cause her top speed not even Elaine has
@@kandiekane. Sorry to say, but Elaine's peak was in 2022. She ain't getting any younger, and less then 1% of athletes peak after they turn 30, where very doubtful Elaine will be that 1% as she has had too many injuries
Elaine is done. She will not get back to her 2021 form.
I would love for her to break the record but I doubt any women can ever beat flo jos records
Sherika will break the world record. It may not be as soon as the Diamond League because she needs to have a little break. But Olympics is coming up. She will probably do it then.
You’re probably right the record could be broken soon
Shericka can break the 200M record but can't say if it will be this year or next at the Olympics, but with a legal +2 wind behind her yep very possible.
Don't think Jackson went after the world record at Budapest in 200m🤔. I think it's more like a revenge for missing out on the 100m.😊
