@@annieheath9310agreed, a bit disrespectful to put it like that as he had said it. If it wasn't for his ill health he would have still been able to perform on the drums and piano. Keep in mind he played all of the instruments on his album 'Both Sides of The Story' as well as the producing.
Great version of this song and Phil is at his peak vocally and professionally. I grew up with these musicians. Best music time ever. I miss Phil and real music.
He's probably too sick to do it now, but I always wanted him to do a dressed down album like this. Just one vigorous clapback at his detractors to show barebones how good of a songwriter he was.
This is a great song. Phil gets a lot of grief for some of his songs (maybe some of his later work), but look at his work with Genesis and his first 2 solo albums and the work he has done with others. It's a GREAT body of work with great song writing.
That was Elton's old model D Steinway that he had used from 1979-1986 regularly with a one off show at the Grosvenor Hotel in 1990 alongside three more times at the Ft. Lauderdale shows during his '93 solo tour with percussionist Ray Cooper. Phil always used a Yamaha CP-80 when it came to playing songs on the piano such as Against All Odds, Another Day In Paradise, Colours ect.
Cool didn't know about this version, It resembles the version in the -sadly- not officially published unplugged concert he did. Can be found on TH-cam though!
Love the mandolin on this song...saw Elton and he played Holiday Inn with an incredible mando piece but not Captain Fantastic... agree to all other comments...they don't write songs like this anymore.
My favourite live version is the one from Finally...The First Farewell Tour, where he teases the audience as to whether he's going to get to the drums in time.
He sure improved his piano from 84. This version is great.
Piano or drums... Same power. Same talent. Same genius.
And voice too!
He's washed up now
@@RobertJamesChinneryHwell, that's one way to put his major ill health, the talent is locked inside, physically unable to play.

Robert James, dude...u'll get old, 😊maybe 😮
I adore the sound of the piano Phil played on this very good live rendition of what is highly likely his most noted tune as a solo artist.

Everybody always forgets how good this song is until his first line, and then they're like, "...banger"
I don't know how anyone could forget how great this song is. One of my all-time favorite songs...so powerful.

😮Россия Санкт Петербург 2024г ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
His Last Performance was with Genesis at the London O2 Arena in Mar. 2022. His son was one of two people playing drums for it. ✨️🥁🎶✌️
I was at this. What a night. Royalty and Rock Royalty - and an arena full of plebs.
Prime Phil at the piano. Thank you for sharing this.
Never heard this before..just his voice and a piano...XXXXXXXX
he can feel it coming
in the air tonight ooh lawd
iiRachel Madness i’ve been waiting for this moment all my life ooh yeah
And it's hard to believe how simple in fact this song is and how little is happening there. It's just three chords over and over again.
One of the greatest voices!!!
I just love this version...... A special musician.... Gotta love a bit of Phil x
Brilliant Phil Collins great songwriter, pianist and drummer ❤❤ love this song with him playing the piano

Phil playing elton's steinway piano

@@bluerazor7049 thank you! I love the sound of that piano very distinctive on the Live in Australia album. Very metallic sound.
Brilliant.
My late brother recorded me this song on a sony 60m cassette with big country level 42 suzanne vega back in 1986

Saudosismo. É O que posso dizer
So dissatisfied @ 3:48
This is a good version but I definitely missed the drums!

Todo mundo espera pelo momento da bateria. Fui tapeado. 😒
Some people have so much others so less...
No drums?
Without the drum fill the song is 1/10th as good. Still great though.
Not the same without the paint tin....
Such an anticlimactic version.
