That's the ticket! I love these cheap, but stylish lighters and hate buying disposables. This mod addresses the FREQUENT failure to light after the first tank of gas is gone, and stops the piezo-electric knob from being a thumb-buster. Can't thank you enough!
bro, i've had this lighter since like 07-08ish, and i liked it enough to hold onto despite the button being stiffer than a shot of paint stripper and the flame only wanting to work under absolutely perfect conditions. thank you so much for giving me the ability to actually use the thing again.
Thanks! Working better than ever on first impression. I found this lighter, about 20 years ago, and it’s been working poorly ever since. I kept it, despite the frustrations, because I could click at it for two or three minutes and always get an emergency light. Seems it will be working better from here on out! Thanks again 😸
I did this exact thing after watching ur video. The lighter before was real hard for me to click. After spending about 4 minutes or so taking the spring out and reassembling the lighter it now is slick and easy to ignite! Thanks for the tip!!
Just a tip, if you remove the flame adjuster screw completely it makes removing the brass very easy, obviously it will also empty all the fuel so just be prepared for a poof of butane to come out
Theres no benefit from that at all. The brass ring isnt held on by anything once you take off the o ring which is easy as well. In fact it will be way more difficult especially for new people.
this is fantastic! guess i got ripped off paying 10 bucks for this thing at canadian tire but after doing both of these mods I'm feeling pretty good about the purchase. thanks a lot! oh, one thing to look out for, other people who are doing this mod: make sure the fuel line is properly lined up and attached when you put the tank back on the lighter. i messed that part up at first and didn't notice it for a second
Great video! That little brass ring was set so that the lighter would barely even light - now the jet is about an inch and a half high! And you were totally right about leaving the lid assembly pin alone. That pin came out somehow and I spent about 20 minutes trying to put the assembly back together. I actually ended up having to take apart another one to figure it out.
I watched your video. I managed to simply pull the spring out with a forceps and saved myself the bother of un-pinning(and re-pinning) the top from the tank bottom. I just took the screw out of bottom, slid off the case and with a pinch, a twist, and a pull of my forceps out came the spring. Thanks for the mod. These lighters are quite a bargain !
Excellent work. I can tell by your knife's accessibility that you are accustomed to working with your hands/tools. A person like this can never be found without a knife; a most basic and most useful implement.
Great information. I did on two Jet Lite and now they work great. When he says don’t remove that one pin, just don’t. I did on the first lighter by mistake and it was hard to get it back together. On the second, It just fell out after I had removed the two as directed. My advice would be to put a small amount of red nail polish on both sides of the one that should not be removed and let it dry before taking the others out. When you see red,,,don’t remove. This made both of my lighters perform pecfectly. Shame on Zippo for not updating this on all these units. THANKS A BUNCH
Thanks for the video, I used it to modify two lighters. I ran into a small snag on each of them, though. On the first one, the spring-loaded mechanism for the lid popped free. It was a pain, but I finally got it put back together and it's fine now. The second one wasn't nearly as bad. The rubber disk and a little piece of metal they were using to fill the gap just fell out, and I had to stuff them back in place... Adjusting the flame a bit more is nice, but the main benefit is the button.
Great hack on a great lighter. To make things even easier you don't need to take it apart. Just slide a wire cutter in and snip the safety spring in half. Don't worry there is no post/depressing rod in center of spring so feel free to cut the spring completely in half and remove the top part of spring with a sewing pin. I simply left the bottom portion of spring inside its chamber. Didn't find it helpful but I also used the sewing pin to easily remove the brass ring.
Removing the limiter is an optional bonus. The real pleasure is taking out that button spring. I just did this to mine, and I'm so glad I did. The button still feels firmly in place, and does not wiggle.. but pressing it requires much less force, which will make it easier to hold it for a long time while carefully toasting the end of a cigar before lighting it.
Thanks for this video man ... the 1 thing I hated about this lighter was how tough it was to push down ... I took that spring out and now I love my jet lite !!!! Another tip for everybody is this .... dip a Q tip in a little rubbing alcohol and rub your gas inlet on the bottom of the light and also swab down in the hole where your flame comes from .... itll clean her out
Was searching for a way to fix my lighter, I refueled if and no luck but after seeing this video and doing the things and then strengthening the flame a bit It fixed all my problems, I lowered it back down and works perfectly. Thanks. Make more vids!
@@MrEmpirestate714 good to know just got one and was hopping I'll be able to refill and it'll still work. Don't feel like spending 5 bucks every two weeks for a lighter
Thanks so much for making this video==> i did it in less then 10mins and now my jetlite is working wonderfully. I don't care what anyone says, just because it only costs 3bucks doesn't mean its not worth trying to fix it! Just seeing if it can be done and making it happen is the best part DIY!!
Thanks mate. i was out in FL this summer (im from London) and it was amazing, was about to buy a Zippo but then saw this little champ in Walmart and i love it... just done your mod, lost the lid pin (in fact it just fell out) but all back together now and works better as you said, so CHEERS! from London! :)
Sweet. Mine sputtered for a few seconds only prior to mod. I performed your entire mod (both) and it works really well now. Thanks a bunch!! Great info.
Awesome man. Took me like three minutes to mod the ligher. One issue worth mentioning: The safety spring keeps the switch cap from wiggling around. I suppose if you cared about that you could buy a replacement spring with less power. You get used to the rattle though, and it doesn't affect performance. Thanks much.
dude, you rock. I'm like the least handy man ever, but I pulled that off pretty easily! I didn't bother with the flame range thing, but the spring tip... just plain wicked. My poor thumbie-poo doesn't hurt anymore when I use my Jet Lite! Thanks, sir.
Modification complete! Thank you :-) But, I have a question. At 01:43 you mention not to loose the little black rubber disc. Which I did not, but the question is: What is the purpose of the disc? What's its functionality? Any idea?
Thanks for the mod, very nice, helps a lot. One other thing I suggest which is not really a mod, is to use an airsoft propane adapter and fill your butane lighters with propane. The pressure is higher, and seems to light more reliably.
@@rafaeltorre1643 Responding to a 9 year old comment? Wow can't believe I have had that adapter for so long, had no idea. Anyway I haven't done it in a while, but all butane accessories I filled with propane never blew up, but one did leak out in a hot car I think, and never held pressure again.
@@LostBeetle Yeah. Blame TH-cam. They started pulling up 10 to 15 year old videos 2 years ago. Mine, stopped working as a jet. It no longer ignites with the spark but if I light it with different lighter it goes on but the flame is that of a normal lighter not a jet. Doesn't seem like anyone answered your question. First modification makes the switch easier to press down. Second one allows for greater range in the flame adjustment, allowing for a higher flame than the original max setting.

Well, thanks for the mod info...was only getting a quick flash of a flame, & now with the brass limiter removed it lights beautifully. One thing though, the damn hinge pin fell out and then the spring & lever. OMG what a pain in the ass getting it back together.
Like I said, don't push out that pin. I'm not sure either. You should have to push the spring and hinge back together while you put the pin in. I just know from other lighters that I have worked on.
If you have kids and are worried about them playing with your lighter, you can turn the screw all the way down so that the fuel flow is off. I was less worried about them burning themselves and more worried about them wasting my fuel.
its an easy fix.... this happened to me too .... put the spring back on the metal hinge of the lid... put the hinge straight down and push a little to compress the spring ... till u see the hole open up to accept the push pin ... then tap it through...
Holy shit dude, you actually got it back together? I can't manage to for the life of me. Could you please give me tips or tell me which way the lever faces, etc?
Going to add one more comment here. After doing several of these, there is a shortcut: You can take a pair of small wire cutters and cut the spring that acts as a child-proof mechanism, and pull it out, thus avoiding an entire dis-assembly procedure...
You do not need to remove the pins to remove the spring. Just wedge out the spring with a little screw driver and it will pop right out. (off topic: Nice survival bracelet btw.)
OK, follow up. I did the mod on two of these, and now both won't cut the fuel delivery off on the lighters. (Meaning, they continue to hiss and spew butane after you release the button.) I tried putting the spring back in, thinking that might be the cause (on one of them), but they still are problematic now. (No way to put the brass limiter back on.) There may have been some changes from the Ronson folks since this video was made, but just want you to be aware. (If anyone has a fix for this, let me know.)
T Elrod I had a similar issue, but theres a simple fix. Just make sure that the dial that allows the release of gas is not turned too much, otherwise the gas will escape and turn into a Zippo (as in it wont stop until you close the lid). Just make sure the dial is not turned all the way. Hope this helps
Edwin Fernandez Thanks. Actually, the gas will continue to flow even after you close the lid. It seems to do it even with the dial turned down. I eliminated the issue with the other ones I have modded with the change in the mod I posted below....
I think the problem is with the metal fork thing. It doesn't sit right anymore so I bent it down a little. I also bent the electric wire to be closer to the flame hole. It was working fine for a little while but now my electric igniter won't spark. It will jam up
Thanku 4 easy video doesn't always light so maybe this will fix it.... minutes later I did it , a metal piece fell out i rewatched ur video put it back in all fixed !!!✔👍Also I put a pc of tape over the opening on the piece u said do not let it fall out..

Holy shit dude, you actually got it back together? I can't manage to for the life of me. Could you please give me tips or tell me which way the lever faces, etc?
Going to add one more comment here. After doing several of these, there is a shortcut:
You can take a pair of small wire cutters and cut the spring that acts as a child-proof mechanism, and pull it out, thus avoiding an entire dis-assembly procedure...
T Elrod Careful to use a tool meant for hard wires or something you dont mind ruining. That little spring is hard. Nearly ruined my flush cutters.
(No way to put the brass limiter back on.)
There may have been some changes from the Ronson folks since this video was made, but just want you to be aware.
+T Elrod have you fixed it I have the same problem
I think the problem is with the metal fork thing. It doesn't sit right anymore so I bent it down a little. I also bent the electric wire to be closer to the flame hole. It was working fine for a little while but now my electric igniter won't spark. It will jam up
+Zach Saxe Well, the beauty of the whole thing is they are like $4.50 or so at Wally World. You haven't ruined a $50 lighter... :)
Thanku 4 easy video doesn't always light so maybe this will fix it....
minutes later
I did it , a metal piece fell out i rewatched ur video put it back in all fixed !!!✔👍Also I put a pc of tape over the opening on the piece u said do not let it fall out..
Thank's man, great video. My lighter is free of restriction now. before this I could not even get it to light correctly. Thank's again.
Good video! I did both mods and the lighter is much better, thanks.

I accidentally removed the fuel line any way I can put it back
Thank you so much, it worked perfectly.
Made the the lighter 100x better thx
if you can't answer "why not" . probably shouldn't worry yourself with the "why"
besides the main mod was to lighten the trigger.
I pop off the lid anyway it gets in the way if you are smoking out of a pipe.
Worked like a charm. Thanks man!
