"We identified 4 video files taken from the WB-57 aircraft of the Starship launch November 18, 2023. We reviewed the responsive records under the FOIA to determine whether they may be disclosed to you. Based on that review, this office is providing the following: 4 video files are released in part (RIP)
We redacted time stamped portions in each of the four videos as follows:
    Video 1 - Time Stamp 2:07 to 2:42
    Video 2 - Time Stamp 2:53 to 3:30
    Video 3 - Time Stamp 2:13 to 2:57
    Video 4 - Time Stamp 2:28 to 3:04"

This isnt the view from the WB-57. I could see the WB-57 from the ground at the moment of launch- it was SE of the launch site. Clearly this video was shot from the ground or close to it

IFT-2 was a great step forward. On to IFT-3 (should happen soon)!

This doesn't look like a high-altitude shot? At the start we're looking side-on to the tower. Unless the plane is on the ground, I don't see how this can be from a WB-57

There was a wb57 flying around(and recording), but this one is just from someone on the ground

Unless the WB-57 was parked on the ground on South Padre island, this footage is clearly not from the plane LOL.

Watch from 1:20 and see the rocket change from a vertical to a horizontal trajectory. @2:00 onward, we see the rocket head straight downward, lol. @2:50 we see it explode and disappear.

    • @cowtheslice
      @cowtheslice 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

2:50 was a cut to when super heavy exploded after separation. You would know if you watch the actual one. Also rockets don’t go straight up. Because they’ll just fall straight down. The reason it’s going down is because the earth is curved and its trajectory has to take it below the horizon eventually. If it doesn’t go below the horizon it would be escaping the earth all together.

is this your first time seeing ift-2 footage? the rocket is not "heading straight down" its doing a gravity turn

@@billybillee8160 well, the plane didn't go to space anyway. Starship didn't make it to orbit, but it did make it to space. but video from a plane, the sound would be useless, too much engine noise, plus sound travels worse in thinner air higher up until it doesn't travel at all in space.
Then again, you can't type so maybe i have my expectations too high, you probably won't even comprehend what i just said.

From what I know, although I am not an expert, it lost stability because it was too light. It is a large structure and is probably longitudinally stiff. Without load it swings sideways. Something like this could happen. Somewhat, its size acted as a sail. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because a lot of people here have good knowledge about space technology.

@@kbjerke oh, that looks like a way more complicated than I thought. You, engineers, are pioneers and, like the Wright brothers, you experiment. I guess most experiments have to end this way because it's a necessary testing phase for development. I tried to understand it based on my simple elementary school physics, but to my surprise, smarter people than me also can't figure it out. I hope you will be able to solve this mystery. You are a bit like detectives right now. Good luck 🍀🤞

it’s supposed to do a gravity turn? If the earth is round going around it is eventually going to put you below the horizon. If it went straight up it would be of no use. Also a balloon? Rocket engines and swivel to provide control you know?

    • @SOR-05

If this were a balloon if it angled its trajectory wouldn’t change. It would just keep going up while it is angled on its axis.
