- Every possible outcome for Pelican Town's summer festival, the Luau, where players are instructed to provide a high quality ingredient for the potluck soup for the Valley governor to sample. There are six possible outcomes - 'missing something' (no ingredient), best, good, neutral, bad, and worst.
Best outcome ingredients (from the Stardew Valley Wiki) [villager friendship bonus]:
Silver star: Crimsonfish, Ice Pip, Lava Eel, Legend, Starfruit
Gold star: Angler, Artichoke, Catfish, Cauliflower, Chanterelle, Cheese, Crimsonfish, Fairy Rose, Glacierfish, Goat Cheese, Ice Pip, Lava Eel, Legend, Melon, Mutant Carp, Purple Mushroom, Red Cabbage, Starfruit, Sturgeon, Super Cucumber, Truffle, Yam
Worst outcome ingredients [villager friendship loss]:
Any quality: Holly, Pufferfish, Red Mushroom, Sap, Scorpion Carp, Sea Cucumber
Bad outcome ingredients:

Adam Wesołowski no it’s not.... you get the quest, and you can get them at any point after you have a two heart friendship with Marnie, and also you can do it in the second year or third! :D I hope that helps?

Super late here but I would say it makes sense since the towns people put different ingredients in each year just the year you show up is a bad year.

I put in a gold star melon in my very first play through. I thought it was a typical response, I didn't know it was one of the best ingredients, hell I didn't even know there WAS an ingredient hierarchy. I did the same thing for the couple of years and... yeah it took me some time to figure out this was a challenge.

has anyone ever had a soup with cauliflower or broccoli? of course cauliflower is a great ingredient, its delicious both in game and in real life, just dont add a cave carrot '_' i thought it was a normal cleaned carrot, also pumpkin works really well, hmmm now im hungry
Why does everyone blame the player if it's bad or good? How do they know it wasn't one of them who could have put in a red mushroom.

My first year I didn't realize I had to bring something so I was just walking over with my tools. Picked up one of the purple flowers on the way just because and then couldn't leave and come back after I was told to put something in. Thought I'd get in trouble or something if I didn't, or the game wouldn't let me continue so I just tossed in the flower figuring, hey, what's it gonna matter anyway. At least it's something.
It was something alright. Something disgusting. Though at least I didn't poison anyone so, there's that.

To the people shocked by him adding The Legend, I would do this too. There's a lot of things that can make money and this doesn't have any special kind of cutscene or dialogue even from Willy. As far as I know this is the only satisfying use for it other than selling it.
yeah.... but there is so many other things to put like the ancient fruit which is pretty common at the point when you can get the legend which require a lot of iridium bars so ancient fruit is my go for thing to put in luau

If you put [163] or the legend id code (I forgot it) in your name a legend spawns in your inventory whenever anyone says your name (depending on what console you’re on)
Watching this video in 2021, playing the 1.5 update. Here's my recent story with this festival. Sit down folks, here comes the story:
The day of the festival I forgot about it and didn't bring any ingredients. A few minutes before the festival starts, I was fishing at the beach and got an iridium super cucumber. It was basicaly the only "good quality" thing I had in my bag. My thougth? "It's an iridium quality super cucumber. What could go wrong?". Turns out it was a really bad ingredient and I got the "worst ingredient" cut scene. I was sooo confused! "IT'S AN IRIDIUM QUALITY INGREDIENT, YOU FUCKING UNGREATEFUL BASTARDS!!!", but then I realized I wouldn't eat a cucumber either.
The end.
What?? I swear I threw in super cucumbers for years and it elicited the best response

Isn't the point of the story that with the right motivation everyone can pitch in, like seriously they basically tricked the town's people into solving there food problem by working together
The first time, I added nothing. Then I started using gold star grapes, and at year 5, I realized one of the best was Iridium star L. Goat Milk, and used that instead, and I yelled "I ADDED E X T R A CREAMY GOAT MILK, YALL WELCOME"

First year I put in a sweet pea. I was greedy and figured since it had 'pea' in the name it was edible.
I got the bad ingredient result. Next year I got best result with gold star goat cheese.
I did the same, and because I felt so guilty I restarted and put in a pepper getting a neutral response.

You can also get the best outcome by putting in a gold star melon, a silver star starfruit, a silver star goat cheese, a gold star purple mushroom, or a gold star truffle.
I remember getting the best response my first year, so on year 2 I threw algae in, bc I thought that it didn't matter.

For the first year, I was pretty lucky to have a Gold Cauliflower, but since I didn't know about the grading system, I kinda just went with real metrics and figured a decent/organic cauliflower would have a good taste in a large, mixpot soup. A good amount of thought has been put into what is fitting and less fitting for the soup, and it's pretty realistic.
Omg, I was about to add puff fish in the soup, i thought it's pretty hard to carch fish and it was gold quality and i thought it would be at least good ingredient, thanks God I found this video

In the 1.3 beta, you can add Mayor Lewis' shorts to the soup with a pretty funny new cutscene. Same friendship results as putting in the worst ingredients.

I got the "out of this world" scenario with aged goat cheese, which is actually quite easy to get once you think about it. At the moment I am aging some ancient fruit wine and I want to see how that will go.
