    Not even 4 minutes in and I’m so stinkin happy with the detail! I work for an electric company, and am so glad you brought up 811! It’s so important that no matter how small/ big your project is, anytime you are digging you need to have your utilities marked. You may not have underground electric service (which if hit while digging can be extremely dangerous) but there could be gas lines and so many others. Thank you for bringing this up! Now back to the video lol

    Using the speed square as a physical guide when cutting the post with the circular saw is a GREAT tip that I never thought of (and I have experienced the imperfect cut on top). THANKS!!

    First of all I want to say - HOORAY MONICA'S BACK! Secondly this was terrific! Such a thorough explanation of everything. Directions, tools, supplies, dos and don'ts that everyone can follow easily! I find these videos so helpful. Please give us more!

    Thank you thank you thank you! I love your videos and how clear you explain things and make it completely doable for those of us that have no clue of where to even start. As a newly single mom, I am just now getting comfortable with tools and still trying to figure out how to use them to get all the stuff done on my house that i need to! This video helped me in more ways than you can possibly imagine!

    You’re so helpful cause you explain everything... so help me with this.. I live in a Third World Country, most of the houses are made of concrete.. what kind of DRILL is best to use when putting up “whatever on the walls” the type of nails and using the plastic inserts is the normal here. Also if I only had one type of small versatile SAW to buy what would that be please. So hopefully if I can’t buy it here I can send for it from the states. Thanks so much

    QUESTION: Why did you leave 4" when doing the concrete? I went back to the DIY Basics setting a post video & it looks like they went pretty close to the top. There's no explanation of why one should keep the concrete below soil level. I look forward to more videos!

    • @jasoncmccoy
      @jasoncmccoy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Concrete around the post right at ground level would hold more water against the post. By leaving a few inches of soil at the top, it gives the water a chance to drain away, prolonging the life of the post.

    • @tpfarm3535
      @tpfarm3535 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jasoncmccoy - That makes sense. I've always brought the concrete above soil level then tapered it away from the post. That usually adds at least another bag of concrete! My next posts, I'll set this way and since I set my posts 4ft into the ground, it'll be a little bit cheaper! Thank you again for these excellent vlogs!

    • @hotrodpaully1
      @hotrodpaully1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      honestly you should never concrete post in they will rot faster no matter how you do it just dig a hole add a little rock at bottom and fill back in with dirt your post will last at least twice as long

    Why do you need to wait 2-3 months for the pressure treated wood to dry out prior to staining? Isn't it already dried out when you buy it? I read all the comments and I seem to be the only one that does not know. lol.

    If you were putting this on a concrete patio, would you use epoxy to secure the bottom?

    • @jayzaitzew2144
      @jayzaitzew2144 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brandy Wright The best bet would probably be to drill a hole into the concrete and attach a wood to concrete anchor. Similar to what would be used when building a deck.

    why not just putting the posts in place, cement it and then just cut them level instead of risking and fiddling with dirt after you cut them? doesn't matter if the holes are the same depth or not as long as the above ground top cuts are level with each other.
