Thank you so much!,i had no idea that my plecos had eggs since i don't move the decors or the seashells inside my tank(unless i am cleaning),İ was expecting zebra danio fry`s since two of my female were pregnant but unexpectedly i saw pleco frys,when i first saw them i thought they were some kind of a bugs i got scared then realized they had tails and when i looked closer i saw 15-20 pleco fry they were so cute 🥰, i am kind of a starter BUT i searched everything before i got any fish unlike some people, however i never even thought about breeding so both the zebra fish and plecos stressed me out because i never looked after fry before. i am probably going to keep 3-4 plecos and give the others to a pet store but i want to watch them as they grow,i was concerned about what i would feed them but it turned out to be easier then i thought thank you. 😊.

I bought a breeding pair of bn longfin super reds for 80$ because their fry kept on dying after the first week. The guy I bought them from removed the fry and placed them in a breeding box before they exited the cave. I do things differently, I let the dad do everything. Taking care of the eggs and fry until they leave the cave. After that they are just free in the 30 gallon tank. I have had a couple of batches now and the survival rate is very high. I have about 50 fry that are about 1 month now and another on the way. Clearly letting nature do it’s thing is the best way.
Thank for sharing Michael if your not getting your pleco to breed i would strongly advise to complete clean the tank. 100% water change but wipe down sides to aquarium. Reset the tank and ensure you have mature males and females. Also check the parameters of water to see if they are same as the ones you get fry from. It may have a different parameters that causes them not to breed. Finally if above fails i would do a massive water change and refill with water from the recently hatched tank as it would have hormones which would trigger them to go into breeding. Hope this help. Micheal question for you, my very first pleco fry are hatching tonight. They are common plecos. But the previous owner told me they have thrown gold baby's before. What colour are normal common plecos when they hatch? All the baby's are golden. Do they get darker? Or am I super lucky they are all gold?
I drill holes in the top of the fork handle and tie fishing line to it then drop the fork into the tank and have the fishing line hang over the outside of the tank and onto some Bluetack to hold it so then when the fork is ready to pull out I don't get my hands wet and into lots of tanks and much easier to retrieve the fork ~:0) I also put the cucumbers and zucchini in the tanks with the skins on just cut them in quarters and plop them into the tanks on a fork. Love the Bloopers as always.

I just found baby fry . I did not know that they were in there and did a water change. but always put water in a gallon jug and wondering if they will die if find them in water . Also should I put them back in tank with parents or will it kill my existing fry ?
In one of my tanks with bristlenose, they eat the peel of the zuccini/squash first. However, in my other bristlenose tank they don't eat the peel at all
You dont do the blanching technique? My corys and snails ignored the cucumbers til i tried blanching. Guess too tough for them. Pretty awesome they can take down the entire thing in just days, lotta little mouths lol i cut mine into coin size and it takes them 2 or 3 days before its gone.
My friends bristlenose plecos just had babies and he didn't even know until today, there was only one in the tank left and I've just transferred the baby and the 'parents' into my tank so if anyone has advice I'd love to know
I haven't tried it with the younger fry, but I'm about to in a bit, just had my second batch, and so far I'm counting 28, but dads still tending the cave. The older fry eat courgette (zucchini I think?) skin with no problems at all.

Anyways, I decided to drip acclimate him today and put him in my 20 gallon with my betta. Bought some mini cucumbers, peeled a piece and blanched it. Dropped it in tonight, hopefully he eats it!

Around two years back my two plecos laid eggs and there were three albino girls and the rest was black like mom and dad. We joke around that they ran out of toner, but on a more serious matter. Both girls have laid eggs and the dad is black and they have had babies like 4 times but not one of them made an albino all the babies tunr out black. Do you know why that might be?

I freeze my cucumber first and it sinks with no help. Reason I started freezing it is, I only have 4 bn pleco's and they cucumbers were going off in fridge before I could use them. so now I peel, slice and freeze. Just take a couple of slices out of freezer, drop them in and they sink in a minute or 2 and stay down till eaten :)

Cucumbers like these have killed two of my L 183. I would never feed my plecos again with vegetables purchased from supermarkets. Even if they are " organic" Hikari algae wafers is what I would feed my plecos with.
I don't know exactly if they are garbage, I didn't try them myself Lol . That's a joke of course! I've been feeding my plecos with Hikari for the last 10 years and they are loving it. It also doesn't make water clowdy like most of the other brands on the market. I will definitely try the NorthFin Kelp Wafers and Cobalt Shrimp Pellets ! Thanks Mike!

Great video! How do you filter all of your BN breeding and grow out tanks? Sponges only? And what’s your water change schedule like?
Sponges and the tanks are on the auto water change system so about 10% daily.

Make sure there are plenty of hiding spaces. Also plecos are nocturnal.....so.......

I've never breed commons, but if they are like ancistorous, if they are light, they will stay light.

Genetics
It is because u bred them with a Dominant trait (Black pigmentation.) Albinism is a recessive trait so you should've paired them with an albino male.

Cucumbers like these have killed two of my L 183. I would never feed my plecos again with vegetables purchased from supermarkets. Even if they are " organic" Hikari algae wafers is what I would feed my plecos with.
Hikari algae wafers are garbage IMO. Northfin Kelp wafer or Cobalt Shrimp and Veggie are much better. French cut green beans are great too.
I don't know exactly if they are garbage, I didn't try them myself Lol . That's a joke of course! I've been feeding my plecos with Hikari for the last 10 years and they are loving it. It also doesn't make water clowdy like most of the other brands on the market. I will definitely try the NorthFin Kelp Wafers and Cobalt Shrimp Pellets ! Thanks Mike!
