Green beans are great. They are the first food that i have actually been able to witness my pleco eat, besides him grazing the glass/rocks. Your video might have saved his life, or at least saved my peace of mind. +1

I feed my placos blanched carrots as complement to spirulina waffers and my placos love it and guard it from the other fishes.
Its cheep and healthy.

Hey Michael, after u heard about the green beans I tried it. I didn't have the French cut so I used the blue cut like you bought

My precious is very friendly. I keep wood clothespins in my tank and he knows that when I take them out it is time for his algae sheets. He even lets me pet him as I feed him! I’m going to try the green beans

My common plecostomus loves green beans and zucchini. He has grown 9-10" in 2 years. He needs a bigger pleco cave. Got some 6" diameter PVC pipe. I'm on the verge of needing a bigger tank. He's about 12" long. 55 is shrinking on him...
Yeah you need a MUCH bigger tank.
I rescued two common plecos from a coworker who had them in a 20-gallon tank... For some reason, they have ignored my rapashy, peeled pees, cucumber, etc. because he only fed them fish flakes (ugh)... But they do seem to be active and happy and loving the larger tank I have them in! I have hope they will begin eating soon! Yes, I know they're nocturnal. Great vid! *EDIT: Will try green beans!*
Make sure they are French cut!
The Fluval Bug Bites bottom feeder formula is fantastic too. My BN plecos, banjo cats, corydoras, and flying foxes all love it.

My pleco loves zucchini and cucumbers! He also enjoys green beans but I'm afraid to put some many in there or leaving in there for long periods of time because I don't want it to mess with the balance of my aquarium

tonight my foot long common pleco died... belly got bloated in hours and then dead, while other bristle nose's are breading a lot and live happy. i had him for 1.5y no problem in 6foot tank that is mainly designed for plecos/ big pleco with many large enough hiding spots. driftwood was included, died of different vegetables, combinated in different times and main high quality wafers... where did i do wrong or what happend. as before he died he tried to push hims self out water.

Our Percy Pleco just got a treat. He was on fresh blanched green beans like flies on poop! He's about 8 inches now.

I have a pleco in my 60 gallon, not sure what kind. It’s about 3 or 4 inches, I have had it for years and am lucky if I see it once every 6 months 🤷🏻♂️

Frozen Italian cut green beans are also my 17 year old Paco's favourite food.

Haha my albino bristle nose just had babies i had no idea they where in there until i seen what i thought was a baby snail but was moving way to fast...my female was "bloated" so i fasted her for 2 days and her stomach went back down i was like ok cool she pooped ..nope she was pregnant lol

Hi Michael, I honestly thought that you was pulling our leg's about the FRENCH BEAN'S! But I gave them a try.... Wooooooah how wrong was I!!! If my Pleco can get past my Goldfish and Platys he love's them and so does everything else in my tank! No exaggeration I started by just putting one French Bean in the tank expecting just the Pleco would be tempted by it... all of my fish attacked it and it was gone in less than 30 seconds! That's after feeding Daphnia, Flakes, pellets for the fish they had a good 10 minutes of eating before I introduced the French Bean! So I put 4 of the beans in... and again the fish went crazy on them! My Pleco didn't move a whisker lol... I ended up putting 10 beans in the tank and everytime the fish which are mainly 2" long fancy Goldfish and 3 half grown Platys. They love the bean's, both myself & my wife were gobsmacked at the reaction from the other fish! I have since learned to put about a dozen beans in, then my Pleco claims one and won't move until he's had enough! The rest of the bean's are soon snaffled up by his tank mates, and they even try to get the bean that the Pleco is eating but he just gives his tail a quick swish and the fish scarper lol. I know one thing that we will be buying if they have them at our COSTCOS lol... if not it will have to be the smaller tins from Asdas.
One QUESTION... Can fish suffer from flatulence? I'm sure I can see the odd couple of bubbles escaping from my Black Moors nether region!

You know you can also consume those instead of tossing them and are delicious when properly prepared.
I only eat fresh with some olive oil and garlic.
You could try to vacuum seal in bags what's left over, they'll last for months.

Cucumbers is their favourite. I also feed them frozen blood worms, zucchini, omnivores pellets and algae wafers

i have one big pterygoplichthys, and several smaller plecos. i give zuchini on daily basis, and pleco tablets.
Not for me, canned are just fine.
I use broccoli stem boiled last for weeks with out going bad and all my fish and plecos love it

Most of my fish love those Sera cat fish chips. I crumble some up to make it easy for them.
I have Super Reds and some plants en route from Kyle. Online Tracking has a red border warning they might be delayed due to Hurricane. When you return from Keystone Clash, and if you have any Reds, I might be looking. Hope the weather doesn't get nasty up that way this weekend.

I've always heard and seen to NEVER use green beans with added salt..
Maybe because I have mystery snails as well??

I tried to feed my pleco a blanched frozen green bean and the snails devoured it before the pleco even got a chance. The snails don’t even leave a scrap behind. I never expected two snails to be such voracious eater’s but they eat the majority of the food I put in the tank and they eat it fast! I have to admit that it’s fun watching them eat and they do an amazing job of keeping the tank free of uneaten food but the pleco doesn’t get a chance to get anything. I might have to move it to a different tank that can have salt in it as I’ve heard that the snails can’t have any salt.
Put some food in a corner, let the snails start in it, then out food in the opposite corner for the pleco.

My plecos won't eat anything other than algae pallets which they won't eat now. Don't know what to do. Worried they will starve although they're going around the glass tank trying to eat algae they may just be starting to form plus they will try to feed from the tank decorations.
What are you feeding, are you sure they are not eating?
@@MichaelsFishRoom I have tried zucchini, beans and cucumber but they wouldn't touch it so I stuck to just the algae pellets my fish use but they won't touch them now. As well as whatever algae growth that may be trying to grow on the glass tank and decorations I've now started to put them in my son's tank a few hours a day to eat some of the algae growth in his tank just to be sure they're eating something. When they're in my son's tank I make it dark to imitate night by covering the tank.

at the beginning, you said that you don’t go though the beans before they go bad...you could put half in a ziplock bag and freeze them and then just thaw what you need so you’re using all of it...i do that with the veggies i feed my freshwater fish

What about the seeds????? I've been rinsing and separating the seeds because I'm afraid they will get caught up in my filters. But now I'm wondering if they will eat them, too? Am I wasting my time AND depriving them?

Loved your clip..a question or two...the tin said in salt water..now Having an aquarium with other fish besides my BN in there will the salth harm the water and other fish? Should i rinse the beans..or just but fresh? So no salt? Also I see alot of snails? Are they the clean up guys? Whats the best? The trumpets? Assasins? Any? As like all of us..the aftermath of the feeding and pooping..although I "hoover" up what I can ...the snails can help? In UK i want to but a garra as heard theyre excellent tank cleaners but they cost around $30 each..
The salt is minimal and will not harm the Plecos. It will actually benefit the live bearers.
The snails are just pest snails. I breed them to feed to my Flowerhorn.

?? I have a problem when trying to feed pleco because he is in the tank with 4 koi fish and anything that hits the water they after it. I even try feeding koi on one side and drop wafers on other side but I have a 10’ koi and he spots wafer and swallows hold. I tried cucumbers the other day and the koi devoured that as well. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Holy Plecos batman ! Lol good video. I had 1 regular, 1 long fin and 2 bristlenose in a 55G. 1 regular died and a bristlenose. I now think they werent getting enough to eat, maybe I had too many in the tank ?? I was giving them cucumber and spinach as well as pellets. Any advise I would appreciate ! I'm getting green beans today. Thanks !

I was hoping you’d tell more about plecos. I have 6 tanks. My red BN only survive in store bought Poland springs water.
My brown BN in another tank doing great in my tap water ( well water).

At least 3 weeks, it it depends on the bio load. Yes, it will any biological media will work.

How do I know if my pleco is eating please help! I recently got a new pleco for about two weeks now. I have tried a lot of food but my pleco doesnt pay any attention to it. Ive try algae wafer,spinach,zucchini and leave it in the tank over night but my pleco is not touching any if it. Is it hungry? Would it look for food if it was hungry?

Hi Mike I've got 2 plecos in a medium sized tank with 5 red comets and a weather loach which a large one I've only got frozen green beans would they do the job for me and how do I prepare them

I feed my fish every other day, should I feed them more often? I have two plecos, two Cory catfish, 4 African Dwarf frogs, 4 neon tetra, a betta, a clan of cherry and Amani shrinp and 6 other fish. How often should I feed them?

Any kind will work, but French cut (with or without sea salt) will work.
