Please tell Bernd another old man in the US has also been keeping fish for 75 years. We are in perfect agreement about the peace and joy of keeping fish without fuss. We keep deep substrates and almost never change the water. A special joy for me to watch and listen to Bernd. - Father Fish
The fact that despite being soo experienced he still asked you to confirm if "too many microworms can give deformities" speaks a whole lot about Brend and this beautiful hobby!!!❤
That's how we become wise old humans. Never stop learning. Always verify what you know, and collaborate with others. I'm getting older and still learning from as well as teaching elders. Knowledge can only be passed on.
Sue, I really enjoyed listening to your father, he reminds me so much of my own Dad. He also moved from Berlin to Melbourne in early 60's.. same accent, same calm demeanor. I'll watch this video over and over!❤❤❤
Love this video, when I was very young like around 8years old I had old man as a friend that had an aquarium room setup like this, I don't know how the old guy put up with me sitting in his fish room for hours going from tank to tank, sadly he died of a heart attack before I could show him my appreciation for what he put into my life.
Wow! I had tears in my eyes at the end. Thank you Nick and Bernd for sharing your passion. I don't even have fish but it is so beautiful to see you guys. Bernd is doing everything right! There are so many old people who only sit in front of the Tv and have negative thoughts, but Bernd is showing all of us how to be happy, specially in the later days of life. Just follow your passion and keep enjoying every moment! And yes Nick we need a full tour. Minimum 1 hour video 😅😁 Wish everyone here a nice day ☀️
Protect this precious human at all cost. 😭😭😭 He definitely aged like fine wine. PS: keep finding all these human gems and show the world the Aussie way of fishkeeping ❤❤
If I leave this planet with half of the serenity this chap feels with his fish, I will leave content. Very inspirational. Stay busy, sir. You're a gem 💎🐠
he's so cool and he totally gets me. when people ask me why do i keep fish i answer it the same way cause it's relaxing. i wish i have someone in my family like him that understands it. i just hope he's profiting of his hobby. he can be a supplier of pet stores near him.
This is by far one of the best video in fish keeping hobby. Bless you, Mr Bernd...🙏❤️ No clickbaits nor product endorsement. Totally agree with Mr Bernd short and simple advice. Thank you KFS...for making and sharing this video.
He still has a child like innocence. And I mean that in the most respectful sense. Comes across as highly intelligent. At the same time he has nothing to prove and has no hint of being jaded. Also still humble and respectful enough to ask questions. Beats the shouty know it all types hands down. 😊
I caught your videos in the past, just the once. I remember the audio being awful and I’m for some reason, sensitive about things like that, so clicked off and didn’t give any other videos a try. This one looked interesting so I thought I’d give the channel another try & not only has the audio improved massively, the editing too. This ended up being one of my favourite videos in the space. What an incredible journey! Keeping fish for over 75 years is no small feat, and it truly shows the love and dedication one can have for this hobby. It's amazing to see the wisdom he has accumulated over the years and how that translates into the care and design of his fish room. This is an inspiring testament to lifelong learning and passion.
Sitting in front of your fish tank really does put you a deep state of peace, even if just for a few minutes. Never really thought about it that way until Bernd mentioned it....what a legend.
Absolutely awesome! The grandfather of fishkeeping! Let's just refer him as the Godfather of fish keeping and at 87 Keeping 110 aquariums... My hat DEFINITELY comes off to this gent!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for sharing Bernd with us. What a sweet gentleman...and after 70 years of experience is still humble enough to ask questions and learn from a young lad like you! Please go back to see him again, ❤ we love Bernd!
Even though I'm more into reef aquarium keeping these days, these tour videos, especially of old school keepers, have an amazing effect on me. They show the joy and dedication to this beautiful hobby and always make me want to buy some more freshwater fish and start another aquarium. Thank you for these videos, keep it up Nick ;)
I love him! He reminds me of my Oma, who emigrated to the US after the war. She named her son (my dad) Bernd! I keep a tank of guppies and he likes looking at all the babies.
What a fantastic man. This was one of your best videos, to give that man the enjoyment of sharing with everyone would have meant heaps to him. Well done.
You need to keep going, it gives you purpose and will keep you healthy. I’m only 62 but have and continue to build a business that keeps money coming in and my mind active.
I thought it was a man that kept one fish for 75 years, good thing I watched. LOL Amazing video!!!! Great work as usual. I think the world needs more Bernd, time for the sequel.
Warm hearting! My dad is younger than him and he is aging very fast to a point hes not doing anything just kinda waiting for his time. Its so nice to see Bernd has so much joy and passion for fishkeeping even at that age. I wonder if he does maintenace all by himself.
Omg Bernd reminds me so much of my grandfather he emigrated from Germany in 1953, same accent similar mannerisms. Love your fishroom mate very peaceful and relaxing and if I’m still keeping fish in my 80’s I’d be a happy man like you seem to be.
I really hope that i have this much joy about my fish room when I get his age. What a beautiful soul and Amazing man. May you continue to enjoy your fish bernd!
The tone of your videos is perfect, and I really hope you keep following this form and continue to find success in it. Its what hobby videos should be like.
Thanks so much for these videos Nick. There were tears for me as soon as Bernd said "What takes age from the hobby!". Such a simple statement that is so powerful, keeping fish has always been a background hobby for me, but it's the best 5 minutes of my day because every morning I get to sit there with a coffee and just watch. Next time I'm in Brisbane, I'll be stopping by to shake your hand. Don't stop documenting this stories, they will mean so much to so many people, now and in the future.
That was really something. Inspiring, and not just because I love aquariums and fish, but because he's up and doing what he loves to do at his age. Gotta remember that!
This is my favorite episode EVER. This man has stories. In America I know a lady in her 90s who’s father was a naz officer. She was put in the camps after he was killed and the Red Cross got her out and she married an American in the army a few years later. Love this. These are the kind of people you can talk to for hours they have so much knowledge and unfortunately people don’t recognize it enough.
Should we revisit Bernd for a full tour ??
Yes love from india...💙
Oh yes !! It’s great to see so many years of experience behind those tanks 🌱😊
Yeah !
please do he is very carming
YES

I just left the same comment! What a legend, go Bernd!
he's humble, which is huge when it comes to experience
He’s never done learning “I heard it on TH-cam” haha it had me smiling from ear to ear
That's how we become wise old humans.

Thank you Nick for doing the video of my dad. I wish that I could have been home that day to meet you.
Hopefully next time.❤
I’ll be back for sure!!
What a wonderful thing to have of your father.

I loved when Bernd asked you about the micro worms, he was so serious and ready to take advice. I strive to be like him if I reach 87!
👍🏻😎 I'm 59 and have been in the fish hobby for 36 years and I still love it. Fish keeper for life!

I pray this man lives to over 100 and is still strong enough to enjoy his fish. Its the best hobby ever. He's also wearing my favourite shirts. 😂

Having a passion is the number one thing keeping you young in life I think.

I see myself doing the same when i retire! He's blessed to reach 87 and still doing what he loves!
I love listening to older people with their insight. You can gain information. I wish people would value that more than they do.
Fish are peaceful, lovely and colorful. They can make us happy.
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for sharing Bernd with us. What a sweet gentleman...and after 70 years of experience is still humble enough to ask questions and learn from a young lad like you! Please go back to see him again, ❤ we love Bernd!

Love that old can learn from young just as young can learn from old. More of this man and his history please.
I love him! He reminds me of my Oma, who emigrated to the US after the war. She named her son (my dad) Bernd! I keep a tank of guppies and he likes looking at all the babies.
