    Liv Ullmann
    Liv Ullmann is an actor, writer, and director who grew up in Tokyo, Toronto, New York, and Trondheim, Norway. She worked closely with Swedish director Ingmar Bergman for decades, appearing in several of his films. Her work in The Emigrants (71) and Face to Face (75) earned her Oscar nominations for Best Actress. Her directorial credits include Private Confessions (97) and Faithless (00), both of which were written by Bergman, and Miss Julie (14). She has written two books, Changing (76) and Choices (84), and in 2009 she directed a stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire, starring Cate Blanchett.

    There are countless war films, but not enough which cover the cost of collateral damage to civilians. This and "Grave of the Fireflies" are two.
    Films can be created to excite and entertainin, and they should. However, it is important for films also to be created which can convey another perspective and to make people think.
