    This is actually a really interesting clip, but the title makes it sound like he's just repeating the same old statement about kids needing an education. Instead, he's describing what needs to be done to actually get players to stay in school.

    College players who stay more then 3 years are already developed as players. There is such a long list of players who went to the draft too early and took them like 2-3 years to develop as a player in the NBA. Then there's players who get injured because there bodies are still developing such as Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid and Greg Odon.

    • @greenhorncasts9873
      @greenhorncasts9873 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bill Mitchell except that Embiid is now 26 on a max as well as having been paid his high lotto salary. if he waited, besides potentially losing out on draft stock cause of injury, he wouldn’t have gotten to that rookie extension at the same time and his career would be 4 contracts long instead of 5. By asking guys to stay 2-3 years more you’re asking them to leave millions on the table, which doesn’t make sense for them financially.

    Cal is a great coach, smart businessman, and an even better person. Not perfect by any means; and his confidence and success sometimes has made him a subject of scorn, and jealousy, especially from a few folk about 70-80 west of UK's campus. I'm still at a place where I am not able to root for UK when they play the Cards; but I do keep a lot more blue in my wardrobe since Cal arrived in Kentucky.

    The difference between NCAAM and NCAAF is that football players need those 3yrs to fully develop there bodies to play in the NFL and so NCAA get the best of both worlds in being able to profit of these athletes and the students can easily finish school if they choose. But some basketball players dont necessarily need those years to compete with NBA players.

      2 points to make..1) there is no guarantee that UK would be able to load up on talent like they have been..its one thing for a kid to commit having the belief that the kids that committed a year prior were most likely leaving,giving them a chance to play,and committing knowing you might end up like Marcus Lee and Dakari Johnson,2 top HS players that barely saw the floor in their 1st 2 years because the team had too much talent and not enough opportunity which resulted in them watching their draft stock plummet 2) If Duke, KU, UNC, AZ all were able to load up on talent, then they ALL would have teams good enough to stop UK..UK only has that type of advantage if noone else is loading up on future NBA talent..and as I have already said, they wouldnt be the only programs to do that..

    Calipari said players should stay 2 years if they and their families are properly compensated which is illegal. So in actuality he’s saying they need to leave after a year if they’re a projected first round pick. The system is a shame because they are not properly compensating players and even demonizing that aspect. They love to say education should be their payment. Funny thing is the institution is making millions off of them.

    If a kid is coming back they should be allowed to make money off of their likeness for every year that they return they are losing money possibly decreasing their value playing again they should be allowed to make that money back

    The only reason college don't want these kids to leave because they are generating free money to the schools.

    The NCAA needs to have the same rule for basketball as they do for football: that players aren't eligible to enter the Draft until after their junior year.

    • @GreenDay1981
      @GreenDay1981 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      PLAYER ELIGIBILITY
      To be eligible for the draft, players must have been out of high school for three years and must have used up their college eligibility before the start of the next college football season. Underclassmen and players who have graduated before using all their college eligibility may request the league’s approval to enter the draft early.

      @jdrook24 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +GreenDay1981 That's not fair at all to the players. I agree that players should have to stay in college for longer than one year if they choose to go, but they should have a choice. I think the best rule is the rule for baseball and the MLB. Players are able to go straight to the draft from high school, but if they choose to go to college they must stay for 3 years.

      +Bearded Lady lol i don't have a daughter. and I said kids should have the choice of whether they want to attend college or go straight to the professionals. Also you've made two things clear, your son won't be going pro in anything, so throw that dream out the window. And two, if your son has inherited your intelligence, he won't be getting in to any college anyway so don't even worry about it. You're good.

    People get engrossed in what he's saying and don't realize that's what got him to where he is today. He's a scam artist who has gotten caught in multiple scandals with his athletes. I don't believe for a second that his players got their grades on their own. Do I even need to bring up Derrick Rose? He's as crooked as coaches get and just knows how to talk the talk to get the best players to come play for him. Not a trustworthy guy at all.

    Why should they have to stay for at least 2 years other then the fact to become more mature before entering the draft. No, this white boy has heavily profited off ALL these kids and all he wants to do is to put himself in a position where he has less turnover, thereby decreasing the amount of real coaching he has to do, each year.
