Halep probably has the best movement out of any woman on tour right now. Extremely well played
Her physical state might not be in her favor (she's one of the shortest player) but she works so hard to overcome it. Her rivalry with Sharapova probably made her realizes that speed is what she needs after all. I mean the main reason why keeps losing to Sharapova for five consecutive matches before is because Sharapova always push her to the corner knowingly that she will struggle to reach and hit the ball first.
She has been in many finals but now it's her time
Her extraordinary retrieving stunned Serena who was sure of her winner. It's just like an extraordinary point by Nadal on clay by which Federer was caught off-guard over & over again. That level! Serena witnessed.
And shot making was excellent and placement was impressive, dejavu with Hingis!

@@Jcoke2201 Halep won this by taking away all of SW's weapons, causing "Forced Errors".
SW is not at all used to anybody getting back shots that are normally winners and aces and Halep hit shots off of those shots the either flip the advantange of the point greatly to her side, caused a forced error or just a straight up winner.

@@spencerrosant5794 There were times where Venus returned shots no one ever did. Venus is arguably the fastest player the tour has ever seen. Serena didn't make such mistakes against her. She kept grinding and hit winners over and over again. Halep is a great athlete but the tour has seen better, she is overrated in absence of other good athletes.

Yeah. She deserved that but it also shown us that even at a very bad shape Williams's ball speed was still very effective & dangerous.
@@mikexhotmail Serena has been in this shape for years and made lots of finals and won many of them. Really, I can only say she was a tad slower in reaching some balls, but her shots were at her usual level. Simona found a way to reach and return most of them.

@@secrets.295 na surely am not one of them. Simona clearly was a better player in the court and there is no way Williams could have won it. As we all see Williams completely lacked mobility (which no one else but herself to blame) but all those fast ball was still a troublesome.

I had never heard of Halep before (I don't watch much female tennis anymore since all of the greats are gone) until I saw her play against Svitolina and was blown away! This is what players used to be like. Precise, graceful, strategic, sharp and wonderful technique..and that speed! Haven't seen anyone this good since the G.O.A.T Stefi Graff. The difference between Serena, who has always relied on brute force, couldn't be more obvious.
Halep has raised her game so much ..deserved to be champion..congrats from India to her

Not only she won,she dominated, it would be like if some player beat Nadal at Roland Garros 6-1,6-2,6-1 by taking away his topspin lefty FH,speed,fighting spirit and endurance or doing the same to Sampras by not getting aced and hitting tons of return winners or difficult net shots.
This is the progression of sports, a all time great is eventually beaten at their best by either a newcomer who does things similar to them but with more modern twist or a complete counter to their play style.
One of the few times I saw Serena doing nothing, she was outplayed by Simona Halep in every way possible.

After watching this match, I can safely say that Halep is the best woman tennis player of current time. The way she tackled Serena and diffused her power game is breathtaking.

They always try to demean Serena by calling her game "power game". Graff was known for her powerful forehand hence most didnt play the ball to her forehand.
Apart from Hsiesh every other top player is a power player. Simona is a little power house. Watch all her game and see the power in her shots.

Magisterial performance from Halep. It's insane what happened today, I've never seen her play this amazing, so many points won out of thin air, she's had to chase so many balls from one side to the other of the court and yet she still won those. Sure, Serena wasn't in peak form today, helping shorten the match with a number of unforced errors, but the points Simona won came from a different planet. Today she's the entirely deserved queen.
Serena wasn't in "peak form" because she wasn't allowed to be. Simona outplayed her in every sense and essentially smothered Serena from the first point. She couldn't even compete- and that's coming from a Serena fan.

This has got to be up there with my all-time favourite dominant performances in a women's Wimbledon final, along with Kvitova demolishing Bouchard in 2014.
Aside from that coverage, notice how good her baseline shots are, and put so much spin in it, so precise too considering the angle of the return. It's like Djokovic style of play. Well done, simona outplayed serena today.
