    Good video! One minor upgrade that wasn't mentioned... either add a drain plug kit to your trans pan or (better yet) get an aftermarket trans pan with a drain plug welded on! Drain plug kits and aftermarket trans pans with drain plugs for the 46, 47 and 48re's are readily available and pretty inexpensive nowadays!

    Great video! Quick question, I have a 47re tow master, built by Firepunk. I’m running a flat line stock tune, and I’m happy with it. I have around 10,000 mi on this truck and I’ve recently developed a hard 1-2 shift, almost like a it bangs in to gear. If I let off the accelerator a bit right before it shifts in to second it seems like it gets a little smoother. Thanks brother! Love your videos❤

    I know it’s just my opinion but, I think the only reason Dodge transmissions get a bad reputation is because people beat on them. I have a 2nd gen and I know a lot of people with 2nd and 3rd gens with high miles and have never had any issues. Just my 2 cents but, I personally don’t think they’re half as bad as people make them out to be.

    • @purepanorama8484
      @purepanorama8484  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      andrew_james419 I agree with you. They do have some questionable parts that you're better off changing out for better functionality. But it's the guys that cant stay out of the skinny pedal and get issues with their trans that say they're horrible. They're good for holding up around 400 hp (give or take) in stock form. That's enough power for me to play around on the streets and mess with all the ricers and other trucks out here.

    Last weekend i just put in a RevMax HD/Towing valve body and i also installed the adapter and DNJ/GM solenoid that i picked up from Goerend Transmission, reason for the DNJ is that it is billet. 99 Ram 2500

    • @purepanorama8484
      @purepanorama8484  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      whitzach the DNJ is a nice unit. How was the install of valve body? What differences do you notice with it?

    • @whitzach
      @whitzach 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The valve body was a little bit of a chore had to pull the front Servo out and add a heavier spring with the initial spring, I had to swap the shifter lever from one body to the other also had to remove the electronics from the old to the new making sure everything was routed and tied down correctly and making sure the parking rod had the c-clip on it correctly, installing the new solenoid adapter was easy and they did a beautiful job on the machine work I looked at other ones but did not care for the cast Construction. all in all it wasn't that bad just a little time consuming, it shifts well does not tear your head off but it's solid still need to adjust the TV cable to widen out the shifting points.

    • @purepanorama8484
      @purepanorama8484  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, the cast parts are the parts we want to get rid of in these transmissions and upgrade to billet pieces. I've been thinking of picking up a spare trans and shop tools to tear it apart and learn more about the inner workings and rebuilding it. That's something I've been thinking about for a little bit now to make content for the channel possibly.

    • @whitzach

      I agree 100%, Last Summer I pulled my transmission out of my truck went completely through it, upgraded the planetarys, torque converter to new Sun gears the sun shell, this was the first time I did an automatic transmission by myself I went on TH-cam and watch the guy that does the transmission bench he was fantastic between that and my book everything went fine I have about eight or nine thousand miles on it now no problems.

    Just found your channel. My 2001 2500 Dodge shifts very well. My problem is after not driving it for a period of 4 to 5 days it takes a while for it to start backing out of the garage. Putting it into neutral and then into reverse shortens the time considerably. But what is going on with the long delay? Driven daily no such problem.

    • @justinmitchell9385

      Another thing on these transmissions, always check the fluid level in neutral running, not in park.

    • @rustycowll5735
      @rustycowll5735 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      from what I understand the fluid drain back out of the converter, and the trans pumps way more fluid in neutral than park. If you put a shift kit in it, it's supposed to fix that, otherwise just shift into neutral for a few seconds before shifting into drive.

      Add a ground wire between you battery and the TCM (behind the air cleaner on the firewall, woven aluminum flat wire)ground wire so it connects straight to the battery. If that doesn't work it's the 3-4 accumulator spring is probably broken. It's 20 bucks or so and you can replace it by removing the pan and not having to remove the valve body.

I have no problems shifting from 1-3 but it wont shift to 4th it just keeps revving up and i dont want to push it. I can only get to 50mph comfortably. Any ideas?? Thanks for all your videos i have gotten alot of great information on my truck!

    So I have a 97 Ram 2500 with the v10. I have code p1757 for governor solenoid , and the Transmission slips between first and second and is sluggish at take off, and takes a while to shift to third. Would replace the governor solenoid fix this issue ?

    Mine has no reverse rn and won’t shift into drive but if u reset the key 3 times and put it on drive it’ll go but still no reverse and doesn’t go into 4th gear

      Interesting... never heard of the "key reset" trick before(?) I'm actually experiencing the same/similar issue as you. Was driving my 03 Ram last week and began smelling trans fluid in the cab and a few minutes later the truck started shifting erratically. Pulled into the nearest gas station asap and found a large pinhole-sized leak in one of the steel trans cooler lines that had opened up in the middle of a tiny patch of rust. Did you ever solve the no-shift issue?

    Hi
    Thanks for your advice video, very clear.
    I am just to drop down my valve body in 46re to change the master overdirive solenoid.
    It is also convenient to change the overdrive master kit solenoid?
    Thanks

    Do they have this torque management on the 47RE V-10s

    • @Jsauce345
      @Jsauce345 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same trans, different motor. The Cummins uses the same trans as our V10 so any part he or other diesel part supplier suggests for the 47-RE will fit.

  • @moodberry

    You're a pretty smart guy with these transmissions. I am trying to figure out if I need a "built" tranny, or if your mods would be enough. Basically, I want to tow about 15K. So far, my transmission is working fine, but I think based on what I hear, that it might fail sooner or later. I have a 2003 RAM 3500 Cummins. Do I really need a "built" transmission. They are pretty expensive and I would like to avoid that expense if possible. Thanks.
