- Come along on this camp with me and let’s talk camping alone and what it’s like. What do you gain from it? It’s quite clear from looking back at my videos how much I’ve grown in confidence and how much I get out of it. But time and time again I meet women who are too scared to do it alone because of their personal fears. These fears are by no means limited to women but for many. I pitch amongst the silver birch trees on a beautiful moorland and enjoy another great night out. A spot of wind and rain never dampened my spirits 💜

Ey up everyone, just on a run of night shifts so it’s good morning from me! I’ll enjoy reading your comments as I’m coming round with a cuppa and brekky…as always I love responding individually! Thanks for watching and writing these comments. Unfortunately my experiences can lead me to think a certain way and talk about what I do on my camps so wanted to discuss this subject that I kinda didn’t wish was a thing or needed! Let’s just say I’ve had a few strange encounters 🤢
On the whole people out there are awesome, decent and respectful and I wanted to get that message across more than any. Quite simply I love camping and all of your comments are doing wonders to put my mind at rest and encourage me to keep enjoying our beautiful world 🌍 ❤All the best, Sarah ❤
In all honesty Sarah, I genuinely believe that the only concerns I have out on the peaks, is Mother nature. I have seen and spoke to many people while out there, and they are the most delightful people you could meet. Even the wildlife keeps it's distance... Enjoy the lone time, recharge your batteries, and have fun doing it. And by the way, I was looking for you at work the other day.. We brought in a mum and newborn which turned up quicker than expected.. LOLOL Keep smiling. ATB. Si (YAS).

It’s mostly that I have concerns for these days (the weather) but now I have all the right kit even the weather won’t stop me. I guess a wind and rain combo is the worst and I just don’t go out if it’s 50mph ++ wind and rain 😂I do enjoy watching those who brave it though, and seeing how they cope with the challenge of filming it all. A through hike would be a good test of my abilities with the one factor I can’t control, I just roll with it. Looking forward to that challenge. Totally agree with you about all things safety. If we are away and leaving the house empty, we never put to on social media until we get back!
It’s exactly the same thing! Minimising risk to possessions and your lively hood is important 😊
Safety, in the sense you've referred to here, is not something I've ever had to worry about. I'm a bald-headed white guy with a big scar running from above my right eye all the way to the back of my head, with a face like a pit bull chewing a wasp. People just don't pick on me (only my mates and my daughter! 😂). I do worry for my daughter, although she's not into camping so much as you are. I understand that things are very different for women. Respect to you, sister Sarah, for being brave enough to do what you are doing.
PS: If you ever bump into a bald white guy dressed in black with a face like a pitbull chewing a wasp up on moors and he's not squeeling like a little girl because he's met SoloSarahB and saying he's Neil from the comments, run like hell.
😂 this made me smile! I met another subscriber who shook my hand and then off he was on his merry way after a selfie, was so funny and lovely. I’ll always say hello to anyone who’s out doing the same as me. I’m glad you’ve never worried, you feel that worry for your daughter tho and it’s quite comparable ✨ so I know you get it.

Hi Twiggy 💜 thanks for watching. I really wasn’t sure if I’d found it, I was checking your directions a few times in relation to my phone GPS, was so happy when I found it. Very different in reality that day to how I imagined the location in your fantastic vids and a very nicely secluded spot. That roar of wind was something else! Like being camped at the beach. Great to listen to you your thoughts of been alone. Safety out & about. To be honest I feel safer up in the hills 🏕️ outside then walking the streets I tell my family same as they worry when I am out. Just keep on doing what you enjoy 👍🏻
I completely agree! I know I talk about my ‘safety checks’ here, they are things I’ve had in place without even realising and I’ve always felt safer out in the Peaks than in the city. Nothing much scares me now. Wild camping has given me a great deal of courage and I’ve learnt a lot about myself 😊 BW, Sarah

As a solo woman doing all crazy sports in remote places. Your safety checks and thoughts, are similar to my approach. Sad but true.
I think the feel of a place is so important...and definitely have changed my plans a few times because of 'getting the gut feeling' not to swim there or kayak there...aways another place or day ❤x

As a fellow solo camper I couldn't agree more.
Other small tips are keeping your shoes out of sight at night, then no one knows who is in there. Have a superb right light or something else to dazzle a person should the need arise.
Best way to stay safe though is not be seen, as you said x
Hey 👋🏻 thank for stopping by, it’s great to know that you solo too and take these steps to stay safe. Like I also said in my video and to many comments after I posted it, I feel safe out there, nothing bad has ever happened to me but the way I have been brought up as a girl and woman is certainly very different to how - boy/ man may have been (lots of variables and do not want to generalise too much, but this is my experience) it’s just that feeling or what if, and having to take extra precautions, looking over your shoulder, that some people may not have had to ever worry about. I always keep my kit in the tent including shoes and pack everything neatly at night incase I need to exit quickly for what ever reason, that may be weather or cows and everything in between. These things are on a subconscious level for sure, I go out and I’m completely relaxed and have a lovely time 😂
The only time I’ve felt at risk of harm was when I was camping on Dartmoor and a herd of cows moved into my area and I was worried I’d get trampled on! All but one of my 200 DofE students is female so I’m very aware of their safety. They are never alone so that helps. The bronze and Silver students always camp near us but the gold students will camp on the moor away from us. They’re the ones to worry about the most. I doubt there will be any weirdos on Dartmoor though! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us 😊

Close I dont camp, they can cover some real ground! I loved taking my son on his Dof E award and was pleased to see that the mix was rally 50/50. You do amazing h leading our youngsters and teaching them life skills. Thank you 🙏🏻

I have never worried about my safety, in my youth after a night out or now in my dotage hiking, wild camping, and travelling in general whether for work or pleasure. That is from a physical environment perspective, and also from a safety from nefarious people to may wish me harm.
However I do recognise my privilege as a white male who is now middle aged and reluctantly middle class, so I do what I can when I can to help and encourage more diversity in our great outdoors. EDI is very important to me in my work; it is equally important t me outside work.
Anyway, enjoyed watching your video and looking forward to seeing more content especially camping!

Being a bloke I never really thought about solo/wild camping from a females point of view, I understand that a woman could feel more vulnerable and maybe more anxious about being alone and how it could spoil their camp worrying and wondering about all the 'what if's'.
I know it's no where near as bad for men but for all the honest decent blokes out there it can make things tricky if there's a woman camping on her own in the vicinity, a couple of years ago I was going camping over the back of Lady Bower past Hope Cross, when I got near where I was going to camp there was a woman tucked away in a corner setting up her tent, she spotted me, came over to say hello, we chatted for a few minutes and obviously she seen my back pack knowing I was going to be doing the same, she said (jokingly I think) "have I nicked your spot", I said "no you carry on", but where I had planned to camp was only about 60 feet away from where she was setting up, lucky for me I had my hammock with me so I went into some woods about half a mile further on and setup there, next morning I got up about 5:00 ish made a drink and set off back the way I had come, it was about 5:30-5:45 when I went passed where she had set up her tent but she was gone already, I often wonder if she was just an early bird the same as me or did she not feel safe because she knew that I knew she was there, if it was the latter it makes me feel awkward just for being a bloke and at the same time sad that men can't be trusted because of the way certain members of society have degraded and tarnished mens reputations by their actions towards women, women used to rely on men to protect them, now they run away from them in fear, makes you wonder what the world is coming to, what's it going to be like in another 20 years ?

It’s a shame that you felt this way when you realised she’d gone, our mind can run away with us can’t it? she simply and most probably just got off early for what ever reason. But the fact that your thoughts turned to her fearing you is exactly why I’ve talked about it and how sad! Those thoughts have probably come to you out of your respect for others and an understanding of the complex society that we live in today. You did exactly as I would have camping away from others, we camp solo for a reason for solitude and rest from what ever is happening with life at that time, I hope you had a lovely camp. My children are learning g from me that you can do anything that you want where ever you want whilst taking responsibility for yourself and respecting others. That next generation will heal the next and one day these fears may not be given a second thought ☺️🙏🏻 best wishes

@@darrendazzertodd I completely second that Darren. One of the hardest things for me when I’m talking about these subjects is keeping a balanced view even when talking about g about unpopular stuff. I havnt been wild camping for long, around 8 months but all of the people I have met along the footpaths (especially my Kinder Scout walk) have been so lovely and supportive. I don’t think everyone with a rucksack is a wierdo, I’d not do what I do if I really thought that. Thank you for leaving your comment, one thing that I said was that I didn’t want to tar everyone with the same brush. Part of the enjoyment of hiking for me is meeting likeminded people who are out doing the same as me and when I see someone with a huge backpack it’s good to stop and talk and share the love for what we are doing 😊BW, Sarah
Sarah is putting in the minds of women out walking or camping, to be in complete fear or a man or a group of men, doing the same thing, enjoying the countryside. There is no balance. I mean, what is a man or a group or men walking supposed to do, when they see a woman or a group of women, what, what do you want that man or men to do. Maybe the men Sarah knows and trusts, feels when they are auto suspect rapist by other women.
Sarah, it’s a good idea for your own piece of mind to take as many safety precautions as possible, I do think however that you are 100% safe in the countryside, and would be far more likely to encounter a potential problem just walking down Ecclesall Road after dark. 👍
Lucky for me I don’t go out often 😂 I was last out on Eccy Rod for my 40th Birthday eating a gorgeous Indian in a famous restaurant, can you guess which one? 🤩 I think wild camping has added to my courage and not much phases me these days, I am well aware of my limits and by no means feel invincible, ok maybe some days I might feel like I could conquer the world but I’ll leave that to someone else 🤩 🦸🏻♀️

Love your camp side talks. When I’m out in the mountains I hide away, no bright colours, only red light etc. it’s worked for me so far. I’m glad to see you use heat pads, no batteries required. I use the curaheat pads, cheap and effective.
Yes, I must invest in a green coloured waterproof jacket. I like to blend in and when I’m not recording for a video I enjoy the red light. I do also enjoy taking pictures of my tent illuminating the ground against the landscape probably because I love my tent so much 😂 after all that jazz I revert back to my shelter to blend back in and respect the land I sleep on ⛺️✨⛺️ATB, Sarah

Great topic. Dad of two girls. Safety is always a consideration. Thanks. For sharing. Also you are more likely to injure yourself walking in then be injured by a falling branch. Always look for widow makers but where I am camping the the pine forest is a reality.
Mother of a daughter here too 🤗 thank you for sharing. I was very wary about the birch 🌳 I think they sink their roots deeper than pines, again another safety check. I spent some time just watching them to see how they dealt with the wind. The trees there sure get a battering from the wind off the gritstone edge of Froggatt so I felt safe enough to camp there. Hopefully many more too ⛺️✨⛺️
Hi Sarah love the videos and I recently did my first wild camp up in Northumberland where I’m from I’m 50 next month and I’ve never felt so vulnerable what gave me strength was lasses like yourself and Sarah (fit for adventure) getting past it to kick my backside into the get a grip man attitude!!
I’ve camped all my life but not wild I came home thinking probably not again but 3 weeks have past and I’m itching😂
Beavers, messner, you, FFA & nights in the wild you all are great and a mine of knowledge the only thing I did different was I took a half size hot water bottle filled with the water from my dinner boil in bag….game changer don’t know why more don’t👍

This comment made my day when I first read it. Taken me some time to reply due to working nights. Thank you so much for sharing. Camping for the first time can feel very scary regardless of gender, so well done . The best observation that I’ve made at the ripe age of 40 is that I learn the most about my self when I am most vulnerable. You can imagine the journey I’ve been on in this short 8 months of actually camping solo and wild, each camp has been that moment of vulnerability in some testing conditions, it’s incredibly empowering. Best advice I had was don’t leave it too long before the next one ☺️I need to get a small hot water bottle, as I don’t like the waste from hot hand warmers ✨⛺️✨ BW, Sarah

I honestly think it’s human nature and depends very much on life experiences where we live, who we’ve met and social media! Without all that, I think we would still have an inbuilt fear to enable our survival 😊

Very sound words, thank you for sharing your thoughts. People do tend to forget their power banks but, without them your GPS could be rendered useless. Also, you need to have with you a bushcraft knife and a first aid kit and a fire steel. Have a great weekend... Stan.

If I was further afield I’d be doh gab more vigorous checking of my kit as it’s can be quite literally the difference between life and death in some environments. I was quite close to home and car if I’d needed to bail. I’ve worked all weekend so now time to rest and get rid of this viral illness my family have had. I was the next victim!

Hi chook, don't spend tons of money on a bushcraft knife, look at buying a Mora knife also known as a Morakniv knife. They come in many sizes and cost as little as £12 . I have 3 and they served me well. They come in a plastic sheath and a lot of campers use them. Hope that helps. Look them up on Google. Cheers, Stan.

She lost her mum to cancer and took herself off for a 1000 mile trek around Wales to clear her head. She was too nervous to try wild camping, maybe you might have changed that for her.

I think we are safer from people when out and about camping. However, social media has much to answer for. It's allowed the less stable of society ( male and female) to hide behind a keyboard and there seem to be less boundaries than years ago. I follow two girls on YT and even though they never said anything about where exactly they lived, they ended up with a stalker. Poor Wildbeare must really go through it with the crazies. I definitely agree with you on the checks. Kit, in reach, phone, battery pack, clothes etc.
Yes, I've also done the key thing on the way home!
I would however, still turn to another camper if I was in trouble. That's sad that your experiences haven't always been good 😞
My biggest fear is cows as I spend much of my time on Dartmoor. They don't half travel long distances and have a habit of appearing from nowhere!! Not fun when you are cowering in your tent waiting for them to move on! 😳🤣🙈
Thanks for your comment Sue! I echo your thoughts re social media. Too often people forget that there’s a human behind the videos that are made. I’ve seen lots of TH-camrs talk about trolls and other negativity that they have had to overcome. I feel relatively lucky as I’ve bit experienced too much of that to date. Most people have been amazing and supporting me in my quest for documenting the hikes and camps that I love. If it was ever a chore or started to degrade my mental health I’d probably stop making videos but continue adventuring solo and with friends because it’s just not worth it. Being happy and enjoying my life is my number one goal.
Cows remain a top concern for me too 😂they are huge! They do move quickly yes, in herds, definitely ones to watch 😅

Great video, after watching Stephen's video the other week, to hear your take on safety as a woman. No rocket science I guess to any of your tips, and they are pretty much all applicable to every wild camper, whether male, female and all shades in-between. My biggest challenges in 19 nights out since I started year before last have always been the weather and finding a blooming flat bit of earth! Otherwise my rules to myself are, try to be away from paths, out of sight of houses, however distant they are, avoid private enclosed land, and last, but most importantly ENJOY 😉. But I'm a lumbering 6foot overweight ginger middle aged man so I guess I'm probably low on the priority list for weirdos.
Anyway stay safe nd keep spreading the love and passion for the outdoors, it's such an addiction once you get into it, but so so rewarding.

Thanks George, I guess this is a subject that I wanted to talk about eventually due to a nightmare that I had on one of my first wild camps last year. It left me wanting to explore why I’d had that in my mind as I fell asleep that night, waking up terrified wasn’t pleasant. Screaming and frozen in sleep in the middle of knowwhere (definitely safer than rough sleeping in Sheffield city centre) It’s taken me a while to discuss it because of how it left me feeling and it was only a nightmare!as you know it runs deeper than just some (not all) women fearing doing stuff alone. I’m glad that you get it and I thought that your comment on Stephen’s vid encapsulated my thoughts too. I feel like I can move on now, not dwell on the fears and carry on enjoying camping for camping! My friends and family have got the message that I love what I do and without question know that I’ll carry on regardless ⛺️✨⛺️ BW, Sarah
I'm always a little scared walking to camp in the dark, but I sleep perfectly once I'm set up and it's clear there's nobody for a mile. Following LNT and sensible stealth camping principles should be enough to ensure my safety - it's highly unlikely that a predator would hunt around in the dark for someone as well hidden as me in the middle of nowhere when clubs are a far easier place to commit such crimes with total impunity. I'm far more afraid of the weather & slugs than people while camping.
I’m so glad that I raised the subject in this video. I know that the risks to me are sooo tiny that’s why I have the nerve to do it. Before and since making this video I realised that so many women in particular make their world smaller due to the fear of other people. Raising awareness and talking g about this stuff is important to me then I go and do it and show others that it’s beautiful and worth it ✨😍
Great video as always. Women say to me how brave i am hiking, wild camping alone. I never think of it as being brave i just think of it as doing what i want to do. I'm also of the opinion that if some crazy wants to sit in the middle of no where on the off chance that i might wander by then good luck to them, i don't just carry trekking poles to aid hiking 😁. Obviously it's good to think about and be aware of the risks but so many women make their worlds smaller because society feeds them fear. In other news a while ago you recommended i visit Bole Hill Quarry, i tagged it onto my Carl Wark wild camp and Higger Tor hike on Tuesday/Wednesday this week. You were right it's like some enchanted wood so thanks for the recommendation 👍. Take care .
You are amazing!!!! I love this! I know you get it and I’m so glad you do what you do, just like me. How wonderful it is to be out there overnight with no responsibilities apart from keeping ourselves fed, warm and entertained by natures gifts. I could quite happily revert to a more simple life, I have skills and knowledge but there’s always time to learn more. I often say that if the world was about to end and technology as we know it ceased to exist I’d still have my spirit and the skills in my hands to help the human race flourish as the baby’s will always keep coming! Thanks for sharing with them and I’m sure I will be worrying about my own offspring as they grow in confidence and independence. I think it’s our prerogative to do this as parents. I reassure my own dad by hiking with him and showing him where I camp and how it feels, it’s been important to me to make sure he’s not worried about me, having a daughter is one of the most precious gifts in the world 💜💜💜💜

I’ve wanted to camp here ever since I saw Twiggy Escapes (Mick) can other win his videos, do you watch his channel? He has been and continues to be a big local inspiration for me. The Silver Burch are my favourite trees and I hope to camp here and similar locations all year round to show the changing seasons of the beautiful landscape 😊

Bob on that chuck! Ticks freak me out, I have to tuck my trow into my socks old school style so they don't get in, and I'm constantly checking. I've seen them on me before and managed to flick them away in time. Once was in our lasses back garden! I'm sure they never used to be a problem when I was a kid, seems to be a more recent thing.

I've given this topic a bit more thought since Stephen's vid.there different types of safety from having the right knowledge of your surroundings and the weather and then trusting your kit knowing how it works.the other safety is something that women have had to deal with and no it's not right but I really do believe once your out on the moors or mountains then I believe that's a safe personal place as everyone 1 out there are doing it for the same reason as you.as for fears of solo camping I do notice there's a lot who aren't comfortable with just being on there own then add camping and toilet then a lot find it scary.i know it's easy to say but some fears should be left at the car then just enjoy being out camping.
Great comment! Thanks for that and for watching Stephen answer my question in his short video. I honestly think that if I was truly petrified to be out on the moors and hills alone I’d simply not put myself through it. It’s quite the contrary now I’ve settled into it, I’ve never felt more relaxed, my pulse noticeably reduces when I’m out there (I know from my watch out also palpating it!) I feel any anxiety and worry fall away as I’m driving/hiking to my campsite, feels like a valuable part of my tool kit. So for me I am comfortable when all my safety checks are completed. I believe everyone does this to a certain degree they maybe just don’t talk about it in their videos as might see it as showing vulnerability or a bit boring. I don’t hold back in my narration 😊 it’s also other people and their comments towards me that lead me to discuss it on a video like this. I really enjoy hearing different perspectives, stories and experiences, it’s makes life so much richer…BW, Sarah

Great video, thanks for that. I still get the feeling of dread on the way to camp, wondering what I'll do if someone's there already then same again at plan B, it's human nature. I've only done a few wild camps and I'm yet to do a solo one so I'm planning on one this year. The only unwelcome visitor to camp so far has been a frog that wouldn't stop croaking and seemed to have mastered the art of stealth, we couldn't find it anywhere! People in general have been great, even the occasional dog walker who has spotted us and either turned a blind eye or came over for a curious chat, nothing has spooked us at all.
I like the look of that tent, been looking for an alternative to my Lanshan 1 as it's not the quickest to pitch in bad weather.
I strongly believe the hills and woods are safer places at night than towns or cities, the chances are if we do come across anyone they'll be like minded and just as wary of us at first.
Thanks for sharing that feeling! It’s good to chat about because people that start camping might feel like they shouldn’t feel nervous or a bit of dread. There’s been many times where I’ve felt it too as I try and get out the house making sure I’ve remembered everything, not to mention have I covered everything at home, number one are my kids and dogs ok! Then if I’m tired I tend to feel my emotions are more heightened anyway and it can really affect where I decide to camp, how far I hike and what I take and decide to cook. I do camp in less popular places for this reason so my plan isn’t side tracked. When I get an ideal vision I feel accomplished when it comes to fruition. Very unlikely that someone else will be there especially in winter. May be more challenging in summer. Part of the adrenaline rush but this isn’t a pleasant thing for many folk. My job puts me in high alert mode for much of the time as I deal with emergency situations as a second nature. In the other hand I am sensitive in nature so never feel desensitised. It’s a good balance!

Safer out there than on the street. I don't worry about the younguns going camping at all, but worry sick when they're in town. I certainly don't worry about anybody over the age of 40 coming to any harm in the countryside. Not one bit.
It’s all very reassuring! When j sleep at night I am more rested than I am at home, definitely testament to how far I’ve come as my first wild camp I was quite nervous. That was only about 8 months ago! Reflecting with other women about my adventures helped me talk about wild camping and the fears. Sadly most don’t even do it because of fear and who knows what’s shaped their life to make them think the way they do. It’s good to talk about these subjects out loud when I’m out there enjoying it all happy as a pig in muck 😊BW, Sarah
As others have essentially said, there is no additional risk from predatory women (or men) when out wild camping, over normal life on the streets. There are however risks due to weather, difficult terrain and so on, which we need to focus on so that we go out properly equipped and armed with the knowledge to avoid unnecessarily risky situations.

Just do it, you'll not regret it. I started wild camping at 51 and have never enjoyed the outdoors more, despite 20 years of hill walking. Ps. I love my Lanshan 2, its a great tent!

It’s removable to I put it on my big backpack shoulder strap with all my camp gear in it. That’s the Osprey Aura SG 50L. Love it, very comfy. been hetic few days with hospital visits to a&e etc .but finally got round to watching your fab video with my better half . its a great topic to touch on my partner can relate a bit to it she has her safe place to go to when when on her own its not quite wild camping but she feels safe. And goes a lot with couple of female work mates wild camping.As they are all the same want to do it but not got confidence to do it solo so this way they encourage each other and build their confidence up each time they go out. Hey 👋🏻 thanks for stopping by 😊 I discuss this in previous vids re the way I set up my Soulo. I feel it’s a better pitch with long poles in first after trying it both ways. It depends what mood I’m in 😂 if I timber right, the instructions say one thing then the video pitch instructions say another so there’s no right or wrong. I found the tension in the fly sheet is much greater with red pole first though. BW, Sarah

I leave my inner zipped up for most of the time to avoid ticks. The risks are manageable, there far more risk walking down the street in town. I’m also sure women have far more inbuilt intuition than men. Atb
I do leave my inner zipped too, I’ve never had a tick or even seen in in the Peak District. Midges in summer are a decent challenge! Hopefully I won’t encounter the little buggers but I’ll buy a removal tool to be in the safe side. I do feel much safer out in my tent than I do in the City. The world is a cruel place. As human beings WE ARE NOT designed to live the life we are FORCED to live.
When you strip everything away we are just cave men and ladies designed to do exactly what your videos are showing. Eat, shelter, survive, repeat. If I didn't have responsibilities (because the modern world has forced me/us to have) I'd go off grid, live wild, none existence, cave man style. I think I'm abit angry at the world because of the past few weeks of hell the world has delt me, so I'll stop myself from banging on. Me and Phil are planning a wild camp somewhere in the next couple of weeks depending on how my exploding brain 🧠 🤯 feels.

@#solosarah well done again.. I was raised in a household of women only, in the 70s.... wow!!!! They had some parties. The house was always thick with a cloud of hair spray.. at one point they had a can of hair spray that was taller than me... i was taught to treat every female with respect .. I noticed that my friends who were raised in the normal family 2.4children, were olso taught the same respect.. so I don't think the "treat females as you would your sister" is a new approach... obviously 1% of people don't conform to that philosophy .through their upbringing or the mental health... if every woman thought about all the men they knew , they would probably fear men less... it's the 1% you fear not men in general... I know some men with some misogynist views , but they don't go out and harm women... I know quite a few women who hate men because of a bad relationship... I feel totally uncomfortable in a room full of a group of women, drunk or sober they can be terrible... how many times I have seen women pick on other women ?? It's disgusting what women do to each other. Once one has taken a dislike to another woman they all seem to... I have been a bar manager, all over the world . What a group of drunk women are capable of makes my blood run cold... my point is that most men are actually nice blokes , most women are nice too. Though they both have a small amount of sociopathic nightmares who are best avoided... luckily none of them hang around lonely, cold , windswept places waiting to pounce on single campers... though still take care out there.
I appreciate the time you took to write this and how you reflected on your time growing up with women as role models. I work in a female dominated profession so I am all too familiar with the unsavoury behaviours of some women towards other women. I feel quite comfortable out there, I always have done. The unspoken fears that all people have when out alone are usually similar to my own. Time passes, experiences shape me and I want to keep learning. What a great hobby!

It is, I have people on one hand saying wow I can’t believe you go out on your own and do this, I could never do anything like that I’m too scared. Then on the other hand, folk who have never felt the fear or need to protect them selves from physical, mental, emotional harm whether that be face to face or on social media. That's such a lovely message back and a very kind gesture 😊. I don't ever comment on videos, but when we watched you I felt I wanted to. You do what I would love to do in the area I would love to do it. It's difficult to suggest a favourite place, but I do love Kinder although we've only been up there once, now our children are getting older I hope to get up there more so I sit with my os map and watch videos to figure out the best and quickest way to get them up there. I would like to visit Fairbrook Naze via Fairbrook and I also... actually I want to take them everywhere up there. If you were to dedicate a camp a view from Kinder over to Mam Tor and the ridge line would be great. The view over there from the druid's stone in your 18 mile Kinder hike was amazing. Please dedicate it to my husband Paul and my children Jessica and Bailey for accompanying me on my wild adventures. They have walked up Mam Tor a few times, but never all the way to Loose Hill and that I'm hoping to do when we return next month. Thank you so much Sarah. X

I've mentioned Claire (WildBeare) before she does similar, she finds a place that feels right and then just sits and waits before making the decision to pitch. Think the birds 🐦 have gone quiet as they too are sorting out somewhere to roost. You mentioned a string vest (PM?) I am now wearing a cheap one bought off the back of his video, it has made a noticeable difference, though the evaporation effect may be off-putting to some. Ooh Canada Geese! Just listening to the outdoors and knowing Hillary will keep you safe and you don't have to worry must be brilliant. Video quality is OK but I look forward to your new camera. You as a sister, is a good one. Life is for living, good on you. Never thought about not posting your pitch live as someone could get to you. I've mentioned before that if you assume 0.001% of blokes are bad eggs 🥚 and you have 1,000,000 followers then you still have to be careful. Again God bless you and look forward to your next.

Thanks Graham, yes I have spoke to Wildbeare regarding her earlier experiences with a predator, it was bloody awful what she told me. Love her channel and her adventurous spirit. And yes of course it was a joke on Paul re the string vest. I’m definitely going to invest. Loved his vid on this product. I think the geese saw my tent and told me about it 😂 was a lovely camp, very roaring at night, that was certainly sleep inducing in a white noise kinda way!
Hillary will always keep me safe although told my list now are lighter 3 season shelter and camera. Still in the research stage, like to spend my time well and my money even wiser.

Well it’s funny you should say that because on my trip I recorded another bit of tent chat that didn’t save and I talked about wanting a new waterproof jacket that blended into my surroundings better 😊 I love the colour red so maybe I will keep this jacket more for when I want to be seen, say on a big hike for if I ever get in trouble. Saving the pennies for a few new pieces of kit and a dark coloured water proof jacket is on my list. Thanks for your comment, BW, Sarah
@@SoloSarahBX ‘T’ makes a very good point. Arguably, wearing bright gear is inconsistent with covert camping….or walking. I’ve always followed the principle of ‘blend in with you surroundings’ UNLESS you wish to be seen (eg need help/rescue ) in which case, yes, it’s a good idea to carry a lightweight, bright, over - garment ( or ‘Hi Viz’ rescue panel )which can be kept out of sight unless needed. Otherwise don’t stick out…makes the job much easier! We’ll done Sarah!

I enjoyed that one. I was glad to hear the bit towards the end where you said there are so many good men about. It's a real shame that there is a definite over correction happening with the way society looks at men and masculinity as a bad thing. It's sad that you feel the need to be nervous about camping because men are a danger to you. Of course i dont know your history with men but the truth is the chances of any women getting attacked while wild camping aren't 0 but are very nearly 0. There a much higher chance of dying or being hurt during the car journey out to the wild or just by nature itself than a danger from men but no one talks about those things. Maybe for you the chance is slightly higher because you've put yourself out there on social media. I understand the message you're saying is to get out and do these things anyway but there really isn't a logical reason to fear that part of camping. A side effect of this sort of video is it could be taken as men are a legitimate threat to women. Again. There is always a chance of course but men are actually more likely to be the victim of a violent crime than women are. That sort of fact doesn't tend to make the news though unfortunately. Hense the overcorrection in society to view men as more dangerous as less honorable than the vast majority of us are.
Hey 👋🏻 thanks for your comment here…I appreciate it and the very reason I pointed out that most men are absolutely beautiful humans! I think talking about this subject is difficult but I’m never afraid to bring up the difficult stuff. I want equals and freedom and less fear. It’s not me alone who feels this way, trust me, I’ve done my research, not many people broadcast their thoughts and opinions probably out of the fear they might alienate some subscribers. There’s a fine line I believe and one of balance that I tried to achieve in my chat. I won’t go into much detail about why I have been made to feel the way I do/did recently but I’d like to reassure you and others that I have come to no harm in my past and whilst out wild camping i actually feel safe and sleep well when I’m alone out there. This was more a reflection and exploration about why hardly any women wild camp and the ones who do don’t always choose to put themselves out on a social media platform. The ones who dont and want to don’t out of fear of others (not just men) I feel like a minority in a male dominated hobby. I continually come across strange comments on social media, usually sexually explicit in nature (yuk) stuff that I don’t need or deserve to see. That has always been from men, unfortunately. I have to remove comments and block people quite often. Isn’t that sad? It’s enough to cause anyone a certain amount of anxiety. Like I said in my video I am married to a great man and have some great male role models. Please delete this if inappropriate Sarah. When you cut the video to go for a wee it reminded me of a day hike in Lincolnshire last summer. I'd set off early, was walking along a tree lined river bank and I could see a couple of hikers in the distance in front. I could see them disappear into what I know is a clearing and picnic spot. As I came close I looked across to say good morning just to see the lady in full flow and the guy videoing it on his camera. I must have gone bright red but she just gave a big smile and they got on with it. A couple of miles later I bumped into a volunteer Ranger, mentioned what I'd seen, and it turned out they were well known for their video adventures. 😁
YOLO leave them to it. Avert your eyes if it offends. Unpopular an opinion it maybe, but I think you were in the wrong grassing them up. Fortunately so did the Ranger. Al fresco in the wild is a great feeling. Very liberating.
@anvilbrunner.2013 I wonder if the couple with the young girl, probably around 7 or 8 who were nearby got the same experience as me. I have no problem with anyone doing what they want, just not near a public path in daytime that is used by families.
So long as they were out the way of sight and enjoying each others company I see no wrong doing I guess but I bet it was a bit of a surprise! I’m glad that they too were out doing what made their heart sing 😂 nit sure I’d be encountering that kind of film making in -5C 🥶 thanks for sharing your experience that day, BW, Sarah
