Thank you for posting these tips. I failed to pair and update the watch. Always stuck in the "Preparing. Two days ago iOS 16.3 is released. I updated it and manage to install and passed the "preparing" process. Not sure I am the lucky one or Apple has fixed the bugs silently in iOS 16.3. Give a try folks!

i had successfully downloaded watchos 8.7.1 in iphone 8 plus and then using in iphone 11.. make sure your internet speed is good.

Sounds like it’s rebooting @ exactly the wrong time you probably need an Apple Watch repair tool like on my other video 👍
Actually there was an a problem for 16.0 if you will supported 14.0 or down you will update successfully

I've really had this issue for weeks now since I got the series 3 watch, I haven't been able to update and pair it correctly. I have to hard reset my iphone which runs on 16.0.3? and then connect to only wifi, and also reset my watch series 3. Is that all the procedure to this? I will like to give it a try.

Yes also before you hard reset go into your notifications and turn off the watch app obviously when it’s done you can turn it back on should you want to also hard reset press volume 🆙 volume down and hold the power button until you see the apple logo and don’t forget WiFi only.
I've been facing this same issue with my series 3 for the last two weeks now I've done all that you said and other videos but still haven't been able to fix it I think APPLE is intentionally doing this to get rid of the series 3 because series 4 and above is not facing these issues.
AGREED as series 4 and above ⬆️ are compatible with watch OS 9

It is called planned obsolescence. It is happening to me too, just for background, I have a Series 3 and have an iPhone X (iOS 16.2) and I am also updating to watchOS 8.7.1. I have tried to update it for over two weeks and I have gotten random errors here and there. In the beginning, it was impossible to update because I got the error of ¨Apple could not link this apple watch¨, after trying for ages it and unpairing a couple of times, it finally let me update, however, the update time was just crazy (1-2h even with fast wifi). However, after leaving the iPhone on the Software Update tab for around 30 mins, it finally got on the next stage, which is the one it is currently stuck at. Preparing, Preparing, Preparing, Preparing... I have already restarted the whole process a few times and it is the same thing. I think it is reasonable to conclude that Apple is doing this deliberately so that we upgrade to the new models, bear in mind that at this present moment, there is Series 8 available. 5 generations ahead of the Series 3. Why would Apple be that nice and allow us to upgrade our watches when there are 5 generations ahead of this one. They are just trying to make it extremely difficult, time consuming and frustrating so that we decide to upgrade.
Well that’s 1 way of looking @ it however it’s not just 8.7.1 it’s also watch os 9 that are having these update problems as well.if or when you get to the stage of the preparing bar.and it stays blank there is only 1 other fix invest in an Apple Watch repair tool AWRT download the firmware and restore it like I have done so in my other video.

NO it’s not complete if the preparing bar is empty it’s still not working you need the preparing bar to move for this to work so unpair the Watch and try it again remember hard reset your phone and the watch before you proceed.
It stopped on half way what to do
I did exactly the same procedure then too update is stop at mid way of preparing....please help..i m using iphone 12 pro max 16.4
It doesn’t usually stop ✋ half way across the pairing bar make sure both iPhone and watch are currently on charge whilst doing this process 👍
when do you start to do the reset of the phone and the watch ? before updating or when the preparing bar is stoped?
Hard reset the phone (NOT RESET) reset the watch make sure the phone is connected to WiFi only go to notifications turn the watch app off then proceed if you want notifications turned back on,on the watch app then do so once complete [>ARE YOU READY

NO A HARD RESET DOES NOT DELETE THE WHOLE PHONE.ERASE ALL CONTENT AND SETTINGS WILL ERASE THE WHOLE PHONE AND THATS NOT WHAT I TOLD YOU OR ANYONE TO DO.

I can't keep my phone next to the on charge watch for atleast 2 days so I'm stuck on what to do
2 days no way 🙅♂️ if the preparing bar is not going across @ all do this ok reset the watch power the phone off once watch has been reset power on the phone connect to WiFi only on your phone and start again if the preparing bar does not go across @ all in 1 hour turn it off.however what I have just explained to you should work 👍
Hi, is there anyway to pair my iPhone 6s with a watch series 4? Maybe doing a downgrade? Because I need the iOS 16 and mine has stopped in 15.7.6

You just caught me before I sleep listen to me carefully when it stays on the preparing bar and there is no orange line going across @ all you need to reset unpair it and do this power off the iPhone reset the Apple Watch by holding down the crown select reset let the watch reset power the iPhone on connect to WiFi only NOT data and start again be advised if this method does not work.the only fix is to use an AWRT Apple Watch repair tool so good luck 🤞

Absolutely your on the latest beta just do what I said in the video also on notifications turn off the watch app then once it’s done ✅ turn the notification back on if you want it on.

NO hard reset your phone not factory reset you will loose everything 🟰🔺
So should i turn off Bluetooth too?
I didn’t need to but sure why not give it a try if nothing else has worked
