    Thanks, Gary. I'm going to make some headers tomorrow and the tip about making the top slightly convex will help. Much appreciated.

    Legend. I've seen a few videos on how to make them but by far this is the easiest and best

    Good video. Ive made this same tool in 4 sizes from 1/4"-5/16"-3/8"& 1/2".
    Super handy to knock out a few rivets when needed.
    I'm making mine to leave a 1-3/4"-2" long body under the head. If a shorter rivet is needed it's easy to just cut the end off to the needed length

    This tool is very handy, i made one for 8 mil but made the mistake of drilling the hole also 8 mil, i later changed it to 8,5. The only thing you have to keep in mind is to drill your tong holes also 8,5 mil. Great video as always, cheers.

    excellent and easy to make and use, thankyou. But please teach the new guys to use a drill vice as if their drill sharpening is not as good as yours and the work spins it could be harmful. More videos please...

    Love your videos! This is a great tool. Ironically, I attempted to make a rivet heading tool today, was not pleased with the outcome. Please make a video on making a heading tool. “Dome shaped” head. Thanks, god bless.

    If you drill out the other end to a different size you could use the same tool for another rivet.

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no you couldn't. If you watched the video you would know that the top is domed so it won't sit flat if turned upside down!

    Would there be any disadvantage to using an inductive bolt heater to heat the rivet compared to the furnace? (for those of us without a furnace and subject to strict air quality management laws here in California).. It is a versatile construction technique for example used to make some beautiful and rather big structures incrementally with rivets and plates - like parts of the old Paris Metro, or in Spain.

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes as it withstands the heat very well. Although as you say it’s a bugger to drill!

    Lubricant or Cutting Oil?

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Either is better than doing it dry.

    • @tstep522
      @tstep522 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, I guess I would have thought the lubricant would make the drill bit tip more likely to slip and not cut. Easier for removal, that makes sense.

    No one uses rivets any more because you can't tell the tinsel strength on a single rivet.

    • @garyhuston
