- A quick video making a simple rivet header which can also be used as a monkey tool for truing up tenons.

Nice job on the rivet header. Quick, simple, and very effective. My kind of tool!!
Glad you like it!
Thanks, Gary. I'm going to make some headers tomorrow and the tip about making the top slightly convex will help. Much appreciated.
No problem 👍
Legend. I've seen a few videos on how to make them but by far this is the easiest and best
Good video. Ive made this same tool in 4 sizes from 1/4"-5/16"-3/8"& 1/2".
Super handy to knock out a few rivets when needed.
I'm making mine to leave a 1-3/4"-2" long body under the head. If a shorter rivet is needed it's easy to just cut the end off to the needed length
Gary, THANKS for the videos. Been Going through them and just wanted to take a moment and say thank you. Your way of teaching is very good. Very happy I stumbled across your videos. Again THANKS!
Gary, Thanks for a great tip and video, I immediately went to my workshop and made one out of some inch and a half round.
Thanks
great to see you back in the forge :) really enjoy your work. thank you
This tool is very handy, i made one for 8 mil but made the mistake of drilling the hole also 8 mil, i later changed it to 8,5. The only thing you have to keep in mind is to drill your tong holes also 8,5 mil. Great video as always, cheers.
excellent and easy to make and use, thankyou. But please teach the new guys to use a drill vice as if their drill sharpening is not as good as yours and the work spins it could be harmful. More videos please...
I like your vice clamp, I frequently use the same type.
Looks clear ...I put some beans to it
Thanks Gary
“Worth its weight in weight in horse shit.” I’m using that from now on... lol.
Brilliant to watch, and agree with the jollop on tools / drills. 👍🏻
Love your videos! This is a great tool. Ironically, I attempted to make a rivet heading tool today, was not pleased with the outcome. Please make a video on making a heading tool. “Dome shaped” head. Thanks, god bless.
I already did some time ago, it's not the best way to make one so I may make a better one but here is the original th-cam.com/video/E-98kGNesJw/w-d-xo.html
I love coming here for a bit of sanity after watching too much MSM BS.
Thanks Gary.
You're the best! Thanks. Now I can't decide what to do next, figure out the horseshoe heart or make one of these that works ;-)
Great looking sweatshirt too :-D
+swdweeb I’m sure you will find time for both 😜
Great idea Gary and thanks for sharing - have a nice Christmas and new years!
Great Video, maybe a tool for forming a domed head once the rivet is being completed on a pair of tongs?
Keep up the great content
Great Job. Man you make me wish I had the time to get my forge going again. Keep the videos coming.
If you drill out the other end to a different size you could use the same tool for another rivet.
no you couldn't. If you watched the video you would know that the top is domed so it won't sit flat if turned upside down!
Gary! Thanks! I have tried this before, and looks like the oil was the missing bit of knowledge.
Would there be any disadvantage to using an inductive bolt heater to heat the rivet compared to the furnace? (for those of us without a furnace and subject to strict air quality management laws here in California).. It is a versatile construction technique for example used to make some beautiful and rather big structures incrementally with rivets and plates - like parts of the old Paris Metro, or in Spain.
If you are lucky enough to own one, use it!
Brilliant! Thanks.
Great video as always!
Simply awesome. Thank you.
A “nats gonads” thats good stuff
Love that oil can! Where can we get one?
Thank you. This was very helpful.,
Great video....thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Is stainless a good metal for these kinds of applications? I happen to have a lot of it. Hate drilling it though...
Yes as it withstands the heat very well. Although as you say it’s a bugger to drill!
i need a couple of these
Very very good , creative man
Полезное приспособление👍
Excellent.
Fantástico! Parabéns!
hello from iraq with you well done
просто и локанично.
You could put a other size on the other side
Not really as you would damage the dome.
Smart man
"Easy Peasy" you Cheeky Buggar
Lubricant or Cutting Oil?
Either is better than doing it dry.
Interesting, I guess I would have thought the lubricant would make the drill bit tip more likely to slip and not cut. Easier for removal, that makes sense.
A gnat's gonads bigger. Lol
What Oil do you use?
any old stuff I have kicking about.
What the hell is this rambling about?? Does he actually get into the rivet tool at all? If so get back with a time stamp.

No one uses rivets any more because you can't tell the tinsel strength on a single rivet.
I use them all the time, that's why I buy them by the bag load!
I apologize, I meant in commercial and industrial settings. Nice Video keep up the good work.
I use tinsel a lot at Christmas... Oh I think you meant TENSILE strength. And Gary's right for some applications such as railway restoration rivets are indispensable
Thank you for the information.
except for the aircraft industry...bridge building industry and any industry where you need a fastener that can make seams waterproof. but other than those small shops........
