While I believe this album is "peak Tool", the album before this, Aenima, is definitely a must as it's just a darker and more angsty experience. The tracks are catchier and more of Tool's humor comes through on Aenima, despite the darker sound.
The Patient is about Maynard's mother who was left paralysed, unable to walk or speak, after a brain haemorrhage when he was 11 years old. He wrote a lot of songs about her.
Hmm I watched that review, I think he mainly was a little critical because he thought those vocals were similar enough to Chino's that he wasn't sure on their necessity. Don't think I remember him going so far to say he didn't like the track
Check out the album California by the band Mr. Bungle. They are an extremely versatile band. Each of their albums sound completely different from the others. You really can’t categorize them. Their vocalist is Mike Patton. He is arguably the busiest vocalist in the industry. He is the lead singer in no less than 10 different bands and projects that range in style. He has also been listed as the number 1 singer in terms of vocal range which is 6 octaves (D1-F#7). Mr. Bungle is a trip into the avant garde. I hope you get into it and enjoy the trip.
I believe that both Santa Claus and Smags are real. They both have a list and that Smags writes the albums down and will get to them all eventually and you don't have to spam the comments to get your albums reviewed.
Lateralus is one of the best Albums of all Time. Also I have to say TOOL is one of the best bands out there. Every Album of them has a very unique concept and sound design and they never failed with a song or album.
Disposition making your list of favorite tracks warms my heart. It's my favorite song from them and it's sandwiched between two of their most beloved songs so it goes under the radar a lot.
Maynard is an incredible vocalist! This album literally made me smarter with all the polyrhythms and fibonacci sequence within Lateralus 💀. Anyway I’m once again asking you to listen to Station To Station. Also TOOL’s debut is also fantastic as well as 10000 days
Personally I think Maynard’s vocals shine more in A Perfect Circle as he is more melodic with APC, if you’re looking for those sort of vocals highly recommend their first album Mer De Noms
Supposedly Ticks and Leeches is in response to record executives insisted on them putting a heavy track on the album. I’ve also heard Danny Carey recorded the drums in one shot.
Something interesting about tool is that alot of the things that sound like guitar are bass. That bit at the beginning of The Patient was bass guitar, same with The Grudge and the melody in Disposition.
Little do you know you already heard the singer (Maynard) on an album. Maynard sung for the song Passenger off of White Pony by Deftones. Just so you know.
This record is amazing, Smags, im gonna leave a recommendation if you ever feel like venturing into a record from a different language, that would be Bocanada by Gustavo Ceratí, Gustavo is argentinian, and Bocanada features some incredible genre blending, Gustavo is able to mash alternative rock, trip hop, ambient and other different sounds to create an hypnotic and dense experience
still loving the videos my guy a few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop)
Disposition is my favorite song because although it’s simple, it packs a heavy punch. Most of the lyrics are ‘ mention this to me’ & ‘watch the weather change’ what I get from this is you want to talk to someone so bad that even something so simple as ‘watch the weather change’ could mean a lot. Especially the part when he says to mention ANYTHING to him, mention something, say something…it’s hard when communication isn’t reciprocated
Omg I love this damn album! But imo the best Tool album is Aenima. Smags, if you ever want to review something with Spanish lyrics, I recommend Suave Pendiente by Niños del Cerro. An Incredible Indie album Greetings From Chile
Sorry bro but you didn't understand this album if you didn't listen to it slowed & reversed at 432hz while tickling your butthole chakras during a DMT trip Also please listen to DJ Shadow - The Outsider and Refused - Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent
Another metal band I'd recommend is Baroness, they have a gread blend of melody and heaviness, and they're great at building atmosphere. If you want to give them a listen, I'd recommend The Red Album or Purple (their first 5 albums are named after colors)
Hell yeah, im so excited to watch this after work; the album that got me into Tool, a perfect blend of my favorite genres at the time and to this day one of my favorite albums/bands. Gonna be Vicarious tonight!
The most consistent reaction channel in the game. I’d love to see a Tell All Your Friends by Taking Back Sunday reaction one day. One of the best debut albums of all time imo
Faap de Oiad was kind of a troll track. It was taken from a guy who called into a radio station to say all that so it is a little spooky, though. I like your interpretation of Ticks and Leeches. Haven’t heard it said that way before
I listened to this album a while back. Headphones on, staring at the ceiling. Did the same with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Very complex works of art tbh
Day 107 of asking for Violent Femmes' self titled - rightfully considered a classic, largely based on admiration for Blister In The Sun. That song however, is only the beginning of this incredible album, the acoustic punk approach is thoroughly unique, and few bands express their personality this well with such a killer set of songs. I'd love to see your reaction to this incredible album (I think you know that already, tho haha) Sorry if I'm annoying or something, I'm really passionate about this album 🤞
Smags idk where to comment this but ive been loving your song Wait, and the picture for it on spotify is such a great moment in eric andre show, i love that so much
I normally enjoy watching you react to music that I enjoyed from my college days, but Tool is a bit earlier from my mid-teenage days. Tool’s discography has withstood the test of time.
Ænima, Tool’s prior album, is about equally as great (if not better), in my opinion. Definitely harder, and groovier, but with less art rock influences.
Dear Mr.Smags: I am kindly requesting that you react to the drum cam video of Tool’s ‘Pneuma’. It’s incredible to see Danny Carey’s unbelievable limb independence as well as his locked-in wizardry throughout the song. I appreciate all the work you put in on your videos. You’re also funny as fuck to where I literally have startled my dog multiple times with a burst of laughter. I hope you will consider this request, though if it doesn’t come to fruition I want you to know I’ll most likely be ok. I’ll make it through as I’m armed with will, determination and grace, too. So please, worry not. Cheers!
I’d recommend ‘Allelujah Don’t Bend! Ascend! by Godspeed You! Black Emperor. It’s my second favourite Godspeed album behind Lift Your Skinny Fists, I think you’ll really enjoy it.
This really makes me want to recommend more progressive metal, namely, Blackwater Park by Opeth, but first thing's first, my birthday is in a few days, and if you were to gift me a review of Ys by Joanna Newsom as a belated birthday present, I would be ecstatic!
if you want music that you wouldn’t expect to have deep and spiritual lyrics, check out Crest by Bladee and Ecco2k. totally different genre from this but it’s something you’ll either hate or slowly become obsessed with
Awesome review, you should check out “Ziltoid The Omniscient” by Devin Townsend, it’s not like TOOL at all, but it has some of best humor and riffs, the vocals are insane as well.
You should really do Angel Dust by Faith No More. An absolute classic from a band whose influence can't be understated. Singer Mike Patton is generally considered one of the best of all time, regardless of genre. The album is often viciously brutal and wildly original while somehow maintaining a consistent melodic musicality. There was nothing like it when it came out and nothing has matched it since. The albums before and after it are essential as well but Angel Dust is the most consistent in quality and tone making it the best place to start. If you want a sample first try the surreal performance of of lead single Midlife Crisis on Jay Leno's Tonight Show.
do i even have to say it anymore? king of consistency banger album. please give vylet ponys fish whispere a listen!! theres 0 videos on TH-cam for that album and like 3 for vylet all together, love ur content smags❤
Love your reactions, you should react to a bit more classic Metal, some great albums: Metallica: Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning Iron Maiden: Seventh son of a Seventh Son, Powerslave Megadeth: Rust in Peace Black Sabbath: Paranoid, Master of Reality Death: Symbolic, Human Slayer: Reign in Blood Judas Priest: Screaming for Vengeance, Painkiller
hey brother I love your reactions. what I would like you to do is read a little bit about the song Lateralus and how they made it based on Fibonacci sequence your mind will be blown believe me. much love from Morocco keep up!
While I believe this album is "peak Tool", the album before this, Aenima, is definitely a must as it's just a darker and more angsty experience. The tracks are catchier and more of Tool's humor comes through on Aenima, despite the darker sound.
Frappuccino sequence goes crazy
The Patient is about Maynard's mother who was left paralysed, unable to walk or speak, after a brain haemorrhage when he was 11 years old.
He wrote a lot of songs about her.
None of those were on this album though
fun fact: Maynard, tool's vocalist is the same dude who featured on the duet you didn't like from white pony.
L take. Passenger is an amazing song
Hmm I watched that review, I think he mainly was a little critical because he thought those vocals were similar enough to Chino's that he wasn't sure on their necessity. Don't think I remember him going so far to say he didn't like the track
@@Literallyjustmintfr
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and You Wont Get What you Want would both be 🔥 reactions
Agreed, but if he did YWGWYW he would have to listen to Sinner Get Ready for sure
Mr. Bungle is a trip into the avant garde. I hope you get into it and enjoy the trip.
i second this its one of my favorite albums
I believe that both Santa Claus and Smags are real. They both have a list and that Smags writes the albums down and will get to them all eventually and you don't have to spam the comments to get your albums reviewed.
i don't care i'm doing it anyway 💀
Where is this list, magic man
Lateralus is one of the best Albums of all Time. Also I have to say TOOL is one of the best bands out there. Every Album of them has a very unique concept and sound design and they never failed with a song or album.
I mean, I'll say they are the greatest band out there.
Panopticon by ISIS (the band) is an amazing metal record. Tool were big fans of them too!
Nah Parabol and Parabola being two seperate songs that come together is genius imo
Disposition making your list of favorite tracks warms my heart. It's my favorite song from them and it's sandwiched between two of their most beloved songs so it goes under the radar a lot.
dude, you gotta listen to kyuss - welcome to sky valley
Gotta listen to the Tool live performance of Push It where a fan invades the stage and Maynard (vocalist) just chokes him out and keeps performing.
Maynard is an incredible vocalist! This album literally made me smarter with all the polyrhythms and fibonacci sequence within Lateralus 💀. Anyway I’m once again asking you to listen to Station To Station. Also TOOL’s debut is also fantastic as well as 10000 days
More tool pls! Listen to Ænima next! One of the best albums ever! Great video. Stayed for the whole thing
Personally I think Maynard’s vocals shine more in A Perfect Circle as he is more melodic with APC, if you’re looking for those sort of vocals highly recommend their first album Mer De Noms
It’s the only APC album I listen to. It’s amazing.
@@johnnyb6067 L, 13th step is better
Another absolute banger. This one will probably get you a lot of new viewers
Supposedly Ticks and Leeches is in response to record executives insisted on them putting a heavy track on the album. I’ve also heard Danny Carey recorded the drums in one shot.
Gotta listen to "The Devil and God are raging inside me" By Brand New
i will continue pushing this until he does
GOAT album we need this comment to catch fire
I fourth this
Ok yes excellent suggestion but he better follow up with Daisy and Science Fiction
100% I don’t need Deja but Daisy and Science Fiction are a must 🔥
Man you got to listen to ..Like Clockwork by Queens of The Stone Age soon
I would absolutely love a Dirt and/or Jar of Flies reaction from the grunge band Alice In Chains. Just incredible.
Something interesting about tool is that alot of the things that sound like guitar are bass. That bit at the beginning of The Patient was bass guitar, same with The Grudge and the melody in Disposition.
This album is an out of body experience. Truly unique and mind blowing
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
Ween - Chocolate and Cheese
✨️
Danny Carey ( Tool drummer ) Pneuma drum cam .... Gotta react to that bro!
Little do you know you already heard the singer (Maynard) on an album. Maynard sung for the song Passenger off of White Pony by Deftones. Just so you know.

Hüsker Dü - Zen Arcade
Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me
Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R
The Stooges - Funhouse
still loving the videos my guy
a few recommendations:
Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production)
Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production)
Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo)
Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop)
I’m here for the transition from Parable to Parabola.
this is probably the best metal album ever made, i absolutely hated it on the first listen everytime i relistened it got 10× better
Greetings From Chile
buena recomendación, pero yo creo q el lance podría gustarle mas incluso
Al menos para mi Lance top 10 discos chilenos, recomendadisimo
Tool is its own genre. This album will grow with you as you grow. Your interpretation of this album will also evolve as you do
Sorry bro but you didn't understand this album if you didn't listen to it slowed & reversed at 432hz while tickling your butthole chakras during a DMT trip
Also please listen to DJ Shadow - The Outsider and Refused - Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent

Definitely do 10,000 Days next, amazing lyrics and sound again.
Fun fact about the track "Mantra", those low pitched sounds are just distorted audios of Maynard's cat being gently squeezed by him.
Bro’s in his Fibonacci sequence era
Smags plz whenever you find time I'd love to watch you react to Oxbow's the Thin Black Duke I know it'll be an experience in the least.
Faap de Oiad was kind of a troll track. It was taken from a guy who called into a radio station to say all that so it is a little spooky, though.
I like your interpretation of Ticks and Leeches. Haven’t heard it said that way before

Lateralus is the only Album that I put on the same hill as DSOTM.
I think you'll love "Aenima" based on the songs you liked
bro actually got me to hit the bell
Brother, The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me by Brand New. I haven’t seen my friends in weeks

Your reactions when a song explodes its fuckin neat men hahaha

Bro the title track from this one fucks so hard its mind boggling
OMG! It's really here! It's happening!
He needs to do some Porcupine Tree or Opeth now!
I normally enjoy watching you react to music that I enjoyed from my college days, but Tool is a bit earlier from my mid-teenage days. Tool’s discography has withstood the test of time.
Parabol and Parabola were split up, because the tracks are supposed to be rearranged and you start with those and spiral out.
Love your vibe, some recs: mgmt - congratulations, underscores - wallsocket, ariel pink - pom pom
Should check out thirteenth step from Perfect Circle honestly like it more than tool sometimes
You used the Smaganachi sequence to make this video

TOOL?? nooo way that's insane
Recs Recs Recs
Built To Spill - Perfect From Now On
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it In People

Ænima, Tool’s prior album, is about equally as great (if not better), in my opinion.
Definitely harder, and groovier, but with less art rock influences.
Hope you react to more Tool albums! This video was really cool.

PLEASE LISTEN TO FLORAL GREEN BY TITLE FIGHT ITS TOTALLY UP YOUR ALLEY

Metropolis part 2: Scenes from a memory would be cool. Dream theater
You should really do Angel Dust by Faith No More.
An absolute classic from a band whose influence can't be understated. Singer Mike Patton is generally considered one of the best of all time, regardless of genre. This album is the high water mark for music and personal evolution
Another album you should react to is “The Seer” by Swans
Please do TOOL 10,000 days
Love that album, I put it just after Lateralus. ❤
Yo, bro, Viagra Boys - Cave World
The "bubbly" sounding drum is a tabla.
At some point you should listen to Ashenspire - Hostile Architecture. Progressive Death Metal with elements of jazz and poetry. Insanely good album!
The best band of my lifetime. #Toolforever
rahhhh i just started listening to this its like our minds are synced fr ‼
Please do A perfect circle- mer de noms. Same singer but much more melodic band. You will enjoy!
Ticks and leaches is an "f" you to the record company who wanted something "heavier."
