I heard recently that Fr. McFarland was in a bad car accident. I am praying for this holy priest's swift recovery. 🙏

If you want to be perfect...

Listen to the podcast my friend. It’s not a calling- it’s a choice! “ Jesus saith to him: If thou wilt be perfect, go sell what thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come follow me. ”

I feel the same way. Not sure if it would be a good fit…I don’t want to waste my time if it doesn’t work out…lose time/money. I’m a little older so I have my independence and I’m close with my family and would leave them/not talk to them as much. So I’d have to sell my house and belongings or store them somewhere during the trial period at seminary/monestary and if it doesn’t work I may not have the means anymore to start my life again leaving religious life. I get the verse come follow me and I have in the novus ordo seminary, but I don’t want to fail if I was accepted.

@@Dwijhaixuj : St. Alphonsus de Liguori in his book titled 'The Great Means of Salvation and of Perfection' writes that if one senses the call to a religious vocation, one should go immediately and not put it off, because it is a more direct means to become perfect and enter into Heaven. To put it off would be foolish, and may cause the person much more hardship. If God calls, He also provides the grace. One cannot 'go and try it out', just as one does not enter into Holy Matrimony with the intent of 'trying it out'. A person enters with the great expectations that God will provide sufficient grace to fill what is lacking.

This conversation brought to mind the movie, "When In Rome". Love that movie but it's hard to find. I think this is the best explanation of the religious life I've ever heard. Thank you so much for this interview. It's very very helpful!

I do hope that the single life is discussed in a future podcast. Is it inferior to the married state? Does a single person have to have an active apostolate, or can one be a contemplative in the world?

    • @WestsidePredator
      @WestsidePredator ปีที่แล้ว +1

Marriage is a lesser, or “natural” state. Going forth to be fruitful and multiplying is a natural state of man as seen in Adam and Eve. It’s perfectly good, but not as good as living entirely dedicated to Christ.

As someone who is interested in this topic, is there a list of traditional religious houses that the Society of St Pius X recommends people to look at? If not could there be one made, even if short?

Thank you so much for this. I ve felt a strong attraction to religious life but can't find a suitable congregation. Is there any way I could communicate with this priest privately? He seems so well informed and may be able to offer advice. Thank you

You might want to check out your local SSPX parish-all their priests are trained like this one and can give you excellent advice.

I’m not sure if there will be an episode of this series where you take questions, but I would love to hear a couple things addressed related to this topic. Specifically on the liceity of traditional religious congregations. I’m not aware of any condemnations, but I can’t imagine the superiors general of the Franciscans or Carmelites, who have accepted the Novus Ordo, would accept traditional Franciscan, Carmelite, etc. congregations. I also think of situations like Brother Martin Navarro’s where people like him and his fellow traditional Augustinians are in an irregular situation within his diocese. Can anyone start a congregation under a certain rule without approval from the general house of that order? Can anyone become a Franciscan or Augustinian etc. just by taking their vows privately? Any answers regarding these traditional congregations and their particular situations would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. As I understand it the traditional religious orders all seem to have some sort of lineage. They can claim to be a part of x order because a specific groups founder was apart of that order.

I have a strong attraction to religious life but I can not despite searching for years know of a traditional TLM order English speaking in UK. Quite sad how V2 destroyed so much

You might have to move to pursue your vocation. I'm from the US and couldn't find a suitable congregation and had to spend time at a convent in Australia.

Do you need to be a determined height to be a priest?

    • @luthiengs

I don't think so...I've met priests that are 6'2 all the way to little priests that are 4'8

The matter of obedience to one's superior. Where does that end? If you are being malnourished, or denied medical care? Superiors are as subject to temptation as the rest of us. What if they aren't interested in leading those under their authority to obey the will of God, but only their own? Or worse?
On the topic of mental illness, what about how it's possible to truly suffer the rewiring of your brain circuitry in Religious Life? But still they reject someone despite improvements in the aspirant's life (no other way to be nice, it's extremely arrogant on the community's part).
What about the religious community of those with Down Syndrome in France? Certainly suggests that "normal" (the virtually "untouchable/unbreakable") people are so selfish that they don't have a clue about God's will.
Sorry, but I find the vast majority of female Religious communities to be the ones not fit to receive vocations.
