I live in Australia and our families trifle recipe also includes a layer of custard, which I think I only learnt recipe that you can't buy custard powder in the USA. I was not comfortable to give that to my kids so I've tried to make that recipe without the raw cake mix and I have found the best things , I guest so to replace it !!! So that being said I have a alternative quite delicious and my family love it more than the original , Replace the 1 1/2 cupof the Cake mix box by same amount with some protein powder of your choice . We love strawberry and vanilla, so good and we don't put sugar powder , but we put a mix of almond powder and milk powder in , because it's already enough sweet ,oh my that give a super tasty taste , you must try it ! And we put a lot's of sprinklers in.

I'm from NZ and we make 'em like they do back in England...they traditionally have fruit juice (or alcohol) soaking the bottom layer of cake and the upper layer of cake generally either has jello poured all over it, or is covered in a jammy syrup....oh and we use custard. Sadly we can't buy dairy whip or anything similar here in NZ..😔 but yours does look yumm!

Did you ladies soak your banana in lemon juice or anything? I've never made anything with bananas just because once they're brown, I think they're gross.
You'll find because the banana layer has pudding and dairy whip completely covering it, it should not go brown. If it was exposed to the air, i would start to discolour.

I would only recommend making it a few hours beforehand, you want the cake moist but not soggy!

Please do this:
Soak berries in 1 part white vinegar to 4 parts water for 10 minutes. Drain. Rinse in cold water. Dry. Gets rid of critters and sprays
Takes away mold too that may be on them and they will last soooo much longer!

They can after a day or two but it just makes them sweeter!
A day before will be fine. But they will start to go brown. Day of is best.
